Halloween Parade Thursday, November 19th
Sunday, October 26th 7:00 p.m.
1:00 p.m. at Chase Park B-CC High School, Room C-113
Many of us have packed away
our beach chairs and flip flops in
exchange for our Halloween and
Thanksgiving gear as we wrap up
2014. EBCA has had a great year –
we’ve had a number of successful
social events, increased our
membership significantly, and
have addressed a number of issues
impacting our neighborhood. We
also just added two new
committees for the association: the
Beautification Committee chaired
by Katya Marin and the
Community Service Committee co-
chaired by Melissa Groman and
Rebecca Fayed. The Beautification
Committee will work with
neighbors to identify and help with
non-park beautification projects in
public areas around the
neighborhood. The Community
Service committee will organize
community service opportunities,
the first of which is the Halloween
Candy Donation. If you are
interested in participating on
either of these new committees, or
on any of our existing committees
including social, parks, education,
newsletter or membership, please
contact send an email to
[email protected]. We welcome
ANY level of commitment!
In addition to encouraging you to
President’s Update
By Rebecca Fayed, President
Our neighborhood has lost a
significant number of trees due to
age, disease, development and road
work. For this reason, the county
has given our neighborhood an
opportunity to participate in a
street-tree planting program where
residents may receive a free tree in
the county right of way in front of
their property.
Interested households will be
able select from the list of county-
approved trees and the only
requirement is that you water the
new tree.
Tree plantings will take place
during the fall and spring planting
season (Following completion of the
sidewalk and resurfacing project on
your street) and continue over the
next three years. We hope to have
the first trees planted this fall. If
you are interested in participating
in the program or joining the team,
please contact one of us!

Tree Project
volunteer on any of our
committees, I would like you to
consider running for an EBCA
officer position. Have you ever
thought, “I’m so happy EBCA does
THIS! or (and I hope not!)“why
doesn’t EBCA do this or that?” or “I
wish we could do THAT in our
neighborhood!” If you’ve ever had
those thought, no matter how
fleeting, the EBCA executive
committee could be the place for
you to make a difference very close
to home! We are currently
accepting nominations for all
positions. If you are interested,
please contact Lisa McCabe at
[email protected]. We will hold our
annual election at the final 2014
EBCA general membership
meeting on Thursday, November
19th at 7:00 p.m. at B-CC High
School.
Finally, I’d like to express my
sincere appreciation to all those
who have helped to make 2014 a
fantastic year for EBCA. As I’m
reaching my 2-year term limit, I
will be stepping down as President
and could not have done this job
without the help of the other EBCA
officers, committee chairs, and
wonderful neighbors who have
volunteered so much of their time.
Thank you all!

Halloween
Parade &
Candy Drive
Calling all ghosts, goblins,
“Frozen” characters and other
Halloween creatures! The annual
Halloween Parade is Sunday,
October 26th at 1:00 p.m. We will
meet at Chase Park (corner of
Chase Avenue and Tilbury Street)
to parade down Chase Avenue to
Lynnbrook Park. Grab your
costume and join your neighbors.
Current EBCA members will
receive tickets for a trinket, but
there will be no treats this year so
bring a snack if parading makes
you hungry. If you would like to
volunteer at the ticket booth or
grab bag table, please contact Lisa
McCabe at [email protected].
Last year, EBCA collected over
100 lbs of Halloween Candy for
Treats 4 Our Troops (T40T), and
we'll continue to support T4OT this
Halloween. T4OT joins forces with
the community to collect surplus
holiday candy for U.S. troops.
These gifts are sent to U.S.
Military personnel who are
currently deployed & Wounded
Warriors.
T4OT only sends unopened candy
that is from the current collection
season. Melted, smashed, opened
and old candy is not accepted.
Please do not send taffy, pixy stix
or insensitive images like body
parts or eyeballs. And do not buy
any extra candy; the mission of
T4OT includes sharing what we
already have.
Drop-Off Details: We are offering
four drop-off locations in our
neighborhood (daylight hours only):
4403 Chestnut Street, 4310
Rosedale Avenue, 4608 Highland
Avenue and 4404 Fairfield Drive.
Beginning after Halloween and
continuing until November 8th,
each house will have a receptacle
outside with a T4OT sign.
At the General EBCA
membership meeting last month,
David Tobin of Montgomery Parks
and Planning discussed Bethesda
Reggio’s proposed beautification
plan for portions of Lynnbrook
Park, including a fenced-in area for
the daycare center’s use. After
hearing many neighbors’ concerns,
Reggio has agreed to submit a
revised proposal that would not
include a fence. EBCA requested a
copy of the revised lease for review
and comment.
Last month, the overgrown
garden along the path between
Chestnut Street and South Chelsea
Lane was removed and the weeds
cut down. This change has spurred
the East Bethesda Garden Club to
realize the need for a larger plan
for this county owned easement.
The South Chelsea/Chestnut
Easement Neighborhood
Enhancement (SCCENE) project
Parks & Open Spaces
will be launching soon and the
newly created EBCA Beautification
Committee is seeking volunteers to
help consider and implement ways
to beautify this space for our
community. If you are interested in
helping, please contact Karen
Metchis at [email protected].
PLEASE LEASH YOUR DOGS!
Park Police have received several
complaints concerning unleashed
dogs in the neighborhood and have
stepped up patrols in Lynnbrook
Park by ticketing owners who leave
their dogs unleashed and fail to
pick up dog waste. Please be
considerate of your neighbors and
leash and clean up after your pets.
Our next park cleanup day will
be Saturday, November 15th from
8 a.m. until 1 p.m. We will pick up
brush and mulch trees around
Lynnbrook Park. Please consider
helping out with this work by
contacting [email protected].
Neighborhood News Fall 2014
A great time was had by all
neighbors who attended the EBCA
annual Labor Day picnic. The
Great Zucchini gave a much-liked
performance. Face painters and a
balloon artist were there for some
exciting entertainment. Besta
Pizza supplied pizza by the slice.
Thank you to our volunteers!
As you likely have seen by now,
the paving of the streets has
begun. They will continue the
paving work until the weather gets
too cold for asphalt. The same
timing holds true for the work on
the sidewalks but they will be back
to finish the job in the spring once
the weather is warmer.
You also may have noticed that
we’ve been having work done on
the EBCA signs in the
neighborhood. To reduce the
likelihood of theft, seven of the
nine neighborhood entrance signs
have been modified with new
brackets and the last two will be
completed by spring.
We have welcomed many new
members this year and are looking
forward to many more! Remember,
EBCA represents you, the

Neighborhood
members, so please support us by
joining or renewing your
membership soon! In fact, please
consider renewing your
membership early for 2015 online
now at ebca.org, or stop by our
table at the Halloween Parade. If
you join or renew now, your
membership will be valid until the
end of 2015.
