RPS Provisions for Waste Energy

• Pre-date 1998 and meet the other relevant criteria of the RPS Class II Regulation in 225 CMR 15.05.

• Comply with enhanced waste management regulations of the MassDEP.

• Earn Waste Energy Certificates (WECs) at NEPOOL GIS. One WEC = 1 MWh of electricity generation

• Half of the proceeds from selling WECs paid into MassDEP fund for recycling program expenses.

• WECs can be used only for compliance with the MA RPS Class II Waste Energy Minimum Standard, not for any other energy portfolio standard.
