EATING OUT IN LETHBRIDGE Restaurants: 1. Dionysios 635 13th Street North (use a car) Looks like a Greek restaurant but really isn’t. The place is pretty small and quite a trip with an eclectic choice of food. 2. Earl’s 203 13th Street South (a bit of a walk from the hotel) Albertan chain with a good range of different foods. 3. Lighthouse 708 3rd Avenue South (easy walk from the hotel) Very nice Japanese restaurant with Sushi and some non-Sushi dishes. 4. Miro 212 5th Street South (easy walk from the hotel) No doubt the best (European style) food in town. The place is not exactly cheap – for Lethbridge standards. 5. Montana’s Cookhouse Saloon 20th Avenue South & Mayor Magrath Drive (use a car) American chain that offers wings and burgers and steaks and ribs. Tacky but tasty. 6. O-Sho 311 4th Street South (easy walk from the hotel) Large Japanese restaurant where you can ask to sit in the back where you take your shoes off and kind of sit on the floor. The food includes Sushi and many other things and is a more North American interpretation of Japanese cuisine. 7. Saigonese 1210 Mayor Magrath Drive (use a car) Vietnamese restaurant, not very cozy but interesting choice of food. 8. Shanghai 610 3rd Avenue South (easy walk from the hotel) North American interpretation of Chinese food. Not at all pretentious. 9. Streatside Eatery 317 8th Street South (easy walk from the hotel) Good Canadian food (burgers, pasta, cheese cake, and such). 10. The Keg 1717 Mayor Magrath Drive (use a car) Steakhouse. Coffeeshops: Don’t miss to visit Tim Hortons (11), a real Canadian institution. It would be overbearing to claim that the food were surprisingly good. But you’ll get to appreciate the coffee once you’ve had a few in other locales in and around Lethbridge. 12. Penny’s Coffee House 331 5th Street South (easy walk from the hotel) Coffee, baked goods, sandwich lunches. 13. Round Street Café 427 5th Street South (easy walk from the hotel) Coffee, excellent baked goods, sandwich lunches. Bars (=Pubs): All over downtown and along Mayor Magrath Drive. Taxi services: Luxury Taxi (mini-van for up to 6 people): 320 – 0000 A+ Taxi: 394 – 9200 Lethbridge Cabs: 327 – 4005 And tons more … just check the yellow pages or ask at the hotel. By the way: Lethbridge is on a grid of Streets and Avenues that are either South, North, or West (no, there is no East in Lethbridge – don’t ask me where the sun rises). The highway divides South and North, the river West and South/North. Note that housenumbers get bumped up by 100 and the last two digits are reset to 0 at every intersection, i.e. 710 4th Avenue is one block away from 632 4th Avenue and 301 4th Avenue is the first house on the third block of fourth Avenue.
