EASYPEASY PONCHO by Tina Irving of Slipping Stitches YOU WILL NEED Any DK yarn – around 1,100 meters (I used 11 x 50g balls of Debbie Bliss Mia in Ruby – just because I had some in my stash but any DK weight yarn would work) 4.5mm needles (I used KnitPro Interchangeable needles and cords and knitted back and forth) If you use a heavier yarn and bigger needles you’ll get a bigger poncho … but you already knew that (right?)

EASY-‐PEASY  PONCHO    by  Tina  Irving  of  Slipping  Stitches

YOU  WILL  NEED Any  DK  yarn  –  around  1,100  meters (I  used  11  x  50g  balls  of  Debbie  Bliss  Mia  in  Ruby  –  just  because  I  had  some  in  my  stash  but  any  DK  weight  yarn  would  work)     4.5mm  needles   (I  used  Knit-‐Pro  Inter-‐changeable  needles  and  cords  and  knitted  back  and  forth)

If  you  use  a  heavier  yarn  and  bigger  needles  you’ll  get  a  bigger  poncho  …  but  you  already  knew  that  (right?)

HERE’S  WHAT  YOU  DO Cast  on  120  stitches. (I  used  the  long-‐tail  cast-‐on  over  2  needles  held  together  because  I  know  my  cast-‐on  tension  is  tight).  Row  1  and  all  subsequent  rows

*purl  5,  knit  5  and  repeat  from  *  to  end  of  the  row.  All  subsequent  rows  –  repeat  Row  1  until  you  have  a  piece  of  fabric  that  is  56″  long  –  it’ll  take  a  while  but  you  can  binge-‐watch  Netflix  cos  it’s  dead  easy…

Cast  off  loosely  –  I  used  Jenny’s  Surprisingly  Stretch  Bind-‐Off  –  you  can  watch  her  demonstration  on  YouTube  here:      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53Mtbkyf5CQ

BLOCK  IT    Using  foam  play  mats  slotted  together,  block  to  about  27”  or  28″  wide  and  keep  your  56″  length.  Do  this  by  pinning  out  your  fabric  (I  use  blocking  pins)  to  the  desired  size,  which  flattens  out  the  concertina  effect  stripes  of  the  fabric  you’ve  just  knitted.   Then  spray  the  fabric  with  a  mixture  of  water  and  ‘Soak  Wash’  or  ‘Eucalan’  and  wait  until  completely  dry  before  removing  the  pins.    FOLD  IT

1.  With  the  wrong  side  facing  you…    (The  mini  needle  indicates  the  cast-‐off  edge).

2  …fold  as  indicated.

         ⇓

3.  Using  mattress  stitch  sew  along  what  will  be  the  top  of  your  poncho  (indicated  by  the  tiny  knitting  needle)  leaving  about  11.5″  for  a  neck  opening.

WEAR  IT  –  see,  I  told  you  it  was  easy!

I’d  love  you  to  pop  by  and  visit  my  blog
