Entrance Hymn New Britain

1 Amazing grace! How sweet the soundthat saved a wretch like me!I once was lost, but now am found,was blind, but now I see.

2 'Twas grace first taught my heart to fearand grace my fears relieved;how precious did that grace appearthe hour I first believed!

3 The Lord has promised good to me,his word my hope secures;he will my shield and portion beas long as life endures.

Officiant and People

Alleluia.Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us; *

but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. Alleluia.

Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; *death no longer has dominion over him.

The death that he died, he died to sin, once for all; *but the life he lives, he lives to God.

So also consider yourselves dead to sin, *and alive to God in Jesus Christ our Lord. Alleluia.

Christ has been raised from the dead, *the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.

For since by a man came death, *by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.

For as in Adam all die, *so in Christ shall all be made alive. Alleluia.

Officiant Alleluia. The Lord is risen indeed: Come let us adore him. Alleluia.

7 Bless our God, you peoples; *make the voice of his praise to be heard;

10 You brought us into the snare; *you laid heavy burdens upon our backs.

11 You let enemies ride over our heads;we went through fire and water; *but you brought us out into a place of refreshment.

12 I will enter your house with burnt-offeringsand will pay you my vows, *which I promised with my lipsand spoke with my mouth when I was in trouble.

Paul stood in front of the Areopagus and said, “Athenians, I see howextremely religious you are in every way. For as I went through the city andlooked carefully at the objects of your worship, I found among them an altarwith the inscription, ‘To an unknown god.’ What therefore you worship asunknown, this I proclaim to you. The God who made the world andeverything in it, he who is Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in shrinesmade by human hands, nor is he served by human hands, as though heneeded anything, since he himself gives to all mortals life and breath and allthings. From one ancestor he made all nations to inhabit the whole earth, andhe allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places wherethey would live, so that they would search for God and perhaps grope for himand find him—though indeed he is not far from each one of us. For ‘In himwe live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets havesaid,

‘For we too are his offspring.’Since we are God’s offspring, we ought not to think that the deity is like gold,or silver, or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of mortals.While God has overlooked the times of human ignorance, now he commandsall people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he willhave the world judged in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed, andof this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”

Officiant and People

Splendor and honor and kingly power *are yours by right, O Lord our God,

For you created everything that is, *and by your will they were created and have their being;

And yours by right, O Lamb that was slain, *for with your blood you have redeemed for God,

From every family, language, people, and nation, *a kingdom of priests to serve our God.

And so, to him who sits upon the throne, *and to Christ the Lamb,

Be worship and praise, dominion and splendor, *for ever and for evermore.

A reading from the Gospel according to John 14:15-21

Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And Iwill ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be withyou forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannotreceive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him,because he abides with you, and he will be in you.

“I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. In a little whilethe world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live,you also will live. On that day you will know that I am in my Father,and you in me, and I in you. They who have my commandments andkeep them are those who love me; and those who love me will beloved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.”
