The Gardens
As many of you know, we
have a bluebird “trail”
surrounding the Fountains.
Local lore states the trail was
installed as a Boy Scout Eagle
project in the 1990's. The trail
is comprised of 11 Peterson
style bluebird boxes. The
bluebird box represents a
hollow tree and is a favorite nesting place for Eastern
Bluebirds. We have relocated three boxes to improved locations,
within view of the main dining room. Nesting bluebirds began
thriving in the relocated homes within 24 hours of our moving the
boxes. Please enjoy watching our bluebirds in their new homes!
Also this month, we will be having an Easter Brunch with music
by Despina Pafralides on Sunday, April 21 from 11:15-12:15. Please
see front desk for menu and reservation information.
Hoppy April,
Mike Gamache, Executive Director
EasternBluebirds Stress is something we all experience
and it is essential to realize that stress,
which is not addressed, can contribute to
health complications such as: high blood
pressure, obesity, diabetes and heart
disease. According to the Mayo Clinic,
education on this topic is key because
stress symptoms may be affecting our
health, while we may be blaming other
illnesses for symptoms such as:
headaches, insomnia or decreased
productivity. There are a wide variety of
stress management strategies which are
beneficial including regular physical
activity, socializing with family and
friends, scheduling time for hobbies and
relaxation techniques such as, deep
breathing, massage and meditation.
Learn more about approaches to stress
management on Wednesday, April 10 at
1:00pm, with Nurse Lynn.
Path to Well-Being
Many people may not know this, but March 2 was National “Read Across
America Day”. Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and
awareness program that calls for every child in every community to
celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr.
Seuss. We are lucky to have Girl Scout Troop #2198 come in and join us for
such a day! Our Residents are always looking for ways to help the children
of our local area. Research has shown that children who are motivated and
spend more time reading do better in school. And when Retired English
Teacher for 35 years, Sheila Groden, found out it was Read Across America
Day, she wanted to participate anyway she could! She was so happy to
bring back some memories of her past while reading the ever so popular,
“Cat in the Hat” to the Girl Scout troop!
