FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Dear Parish Family,
Christ is risen! He is truly risen! Alleluia, Alleluia!Easter greetings to all members of our parish family and to allvisitors and guests. Welcome! And thank you as we join withall Christians throughout the world on this Resurrection Sun-day in which we celebrate the definitive victory of Our LordJesus Christ over sin and death!
I can think of no greater reflection to offer than that of theEaster sermon given by St. John Chrysostom (327-407), thePatriarch of Constantinople. This beautiful sermon is still pro-claimed in the churches of our Orthodox brothers and sistersand speaks to all of us.
May the joy and peace of Easter burn in our heartsthroughout the year. To Christ be glory and power foreverand ever. Amen!
Peace and all good— Fr. Chuck
Easter Sermon of St. John Chrysostomas prepared by André Lavergne
Are there any who are devout lovers of God?
Let them enjoy this beautiful bright festival! Are there any who are grateful servants?Let them rejoice and enter into the joy of their Lord!
Are there any weary from fasting?Let them now receive their due!
If any have toiled from the first hour, let them receive their reward.
If any have come after the third hour, let them with gratitude join in the feast!
Those who arrived after the sixth hour, let them not doubt; for they shall not be short-changed.
Those who have tarried until the ninth hour, let them not hesitate; but let them come too.
And those who arrived only at the eleventh hour, let them not be afraid by reason of their delay.
For the Lord is gracious and receives the last even as the first. The Lord gives rest to those who come at the eleventh hour, even as to those who toiled from the beginning.
To one and all the Lord gives generously. The Lord accepts the offering of every work. The Lord honors every deed and commends their intention.
Let us all enter into the joy of the Lord!
First and last alike, receive your reward.Rich and poor, rejoice together!
Conscientious and lazy, celebrate the day!You who have kept the fast, and you who have not, rejoice, this day, for the table is bountifully spread!
Feast royally, for the calf is fatted.Let no one go away hungry.Partake, all, of the banquet of faith.Enjoy the bounty of the Lord's goodness!

Let no one grieve being poor, for the universal reign has been revealed.
Let no one lament persistent failings, for forgiveness has risen from the grave.
Let no one fear death, for the death of our Savior has set us free.
The Lord has destroyed death by enduring it.The Lord vanquished hell when he descended into it.
The Lord put hell in turmoil even as it tasted of his flesh.
Isaiah foretold this when he said,"You, O Hell, were placed in turmoil when he encounteringyou below."
Hell was in turmoil having been eclipsed.Hell was in turmoil having been mocked.Hell was in turmoil having been destroyed.Hell was in turmoil having been abolished.Hell was in turmoil having been made captive.
Hell grasped a corpse, and met God.Hell seized earth, and encountered heaven.Hell took what it saw, and was overcome by what it could not
see. O death, where is your sting?O hell, where is your victory?
Christ is risen, and you are cast down!Christ is risen, and the demons are fallen!Christ is risen, and the angels rejoice!Christ is risen, and life is set free!Christ is risen, and the tomb is emptied of its dead.
For Christ, having risen from the dead,is become the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
To Christ be glory and power forever and ever. Amen!

Welcome“We Invite You to Serve”
“Your light must shine before all so that they may see good-
ness in your acts” (Matt 5:16).Jesus invites us to commit ourselves to be good stewards of
the gifts entrusted to us, to share our time, our talents andour treasure as an outward sign of the love and gratitude wehave for him.
Giving of our time and talent mainly involves a change of attitude about giving. It’s important to think in terms of giv-ing in gratitude to God, of considering how blessed we are, of using our gifts and talents for the good of others. In the areaof time and talent, many parishioners already commit a cer-tain number of hours each week to prayer, and to sharingtheir time and talents for the benefit of all.
How much time have you spent this week in prayer for oth-ers and for the work of the Church? Have you ever thoughtabout how many hours you spend doing things for yourself versus how many you spend doing things for others?
“Everyone must give according to what he has in-
wardly decided; not sadly, not grudgingly, for God
loves a cheerful giver” (2 Cor 9:7).
Your parish needs you!“Welcome Sunday” is May 20. Please join us to welcome
and recognize all our new parishioners.Consider joining on “Welcome Sunday” one of the many

SLOW DOWN
How can I hear what Godis saying to me? We tryto listen more closely tothe voice of God withinus. One of the ways for
me to hear God’s voice is by noticing what is going on in
my life, God’s words through reading the Bible, and lis-tening attentively to other people’s stories. God workspowerfully through people helping each other to makeconnections between everyday life and faith.
There is often so little time to notice what is happen-ing to us. A Small Christian Community can be themeans of becoming aware of God’s help within ourlives. A Small Christian Community is a group of 8 to 12adults, or families, who come together, usually in eachothers’ homes, weekly or every other week to sharesomething of their stories with one another. They also
dig deeper into the Sunday Scriptures to discover God’sstory. They are much like the early church.
The Mission San Luis Rey Core Team invites you toconsider joining an SCC. All cultures are welcomed to join or start a group (8 to 12 people). Find out morefrom Eileen Costa (SCC Coordinator), at (760) 231-9930;or Bartolo Mendez at (760) 945-3701; or Tavale Tavaleat (760) 295-4088.
Be a part of bringing the presence of Christ’s love toyour Family and Mission San Luis Rey’s Parish Family.

8 | PARROQUIA MISION SAN LUIS REY, Oceanside, California — 8 de abril del 2012
Querida Familia Parroquial,
¡Cristo resucitó! ¡El ha resucitado verdaderamente! ¡Aleluya,Aleluya!
Él destruyó la muerte cuando ésta lo contuvo;
encontró Cielo;
