OPENING ANTHEM “The Son of God Has Conquered Night”
(Chancel & Cherub Choir) Recorded
With darkened hearts, through gloomy haze,
They faced the morning’s growing rays:
Their Master’s body to adorn,
Not knowing this was Easter morn.
Refrain
The Son of God has conquered the night
And reigns in everlasting light!
The sun began to rise that day;
The angel, clad in bright array,
Was witness to the glorious sight-
The Savior has made all things right.
Refrain
The wondrous news now quickly share
To ev’ry land, to ev’rywhere;
Be shining lights for all to see,
Attesting to His majesty!

OPENING SENTENCES (Based on 1 Corinthians 15)
M: In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen!
M: If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.
C: But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead.
M: If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.
C: But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead.
5
M: If Christ has not been raised, then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are
lost.
C: But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead.
M: Death has been swallowed up in victory.
C: Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?
M: The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
M: Almighty God, by the glorious resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ you conquered
death and opened the gate to eternal life. Grant that we, who have been raised with

of sharing his glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the
Holy Spirit be dominion and praise now and forever.
C: Amen.

FIRST LESSON Isaiah 25:6-9
On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a
banquet of aged wine—the best of meats and the finest of wines. On this mountain he
will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; he will
swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces;
he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The Lord has spoken. In that
day they will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is
the Lord, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”
PSALM 118 “This is the Day” | Mixed Choir
(Recorded)
Refrain
This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad. (Repeats)
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, his mercy endures forever.
Let the house of Israel say, “His mercy endures forever.”
Refrain
The LORD’s right hand has struck with pow’r; the LORD’s right hand is exalted.
I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.
Refrain
The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.
By the LORD has this been done; it is wonderful in our eyes.
Refrain
SECOND LESSON 1 Corinthians 15:19-26
If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.
But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have
fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes
also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each
in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. Then the
end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has
destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his
enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

ANTHEM “Christ Is Risen! Christ Is Alive!” | Mixed Choir
(Recorded)
Christ is risen! Sing alleluia! Celebrate this day of days.
Sing aloud your hymns of gladness; sing your joyous hymns of praise!
Christ is risen! Sing alleluia! King of kings we adore.
Death is conquered, sin is defeated. Jesus lives forevermore.
Where, O grave, is your victory? Where, O death, is your evil Sting?
Christ is risen, he is risen! He’s risen from the dead.
Christ is alive! Let Christians sing. The cross stands empty to the sky.
Let streets and homes with praises ring. Love, drowned in death, shall never die.
Christ is alive and comes to bring good news to this and ev’ry age;
till earth and sky and ocean ring with joy, with justice, love, and praise.
Christ is risen! Sing Alleluia! Sing your joyous hymns of praise!
M: The holy Gospel according to St. Mark.
C: (spoken) Glory be to you, O Lord!
EASTER GOSPEL Mark 16:1-8
When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome
bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of
the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each
other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”
But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been
rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe
sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
“Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was
crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell
his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him,
just as he told you.’”
Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said
nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.

HYMN “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” | CW 152
All: I know that my Redeemer lives;
What comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, he lives, who once was dead;
He lives, my ever-living Head!
Men: He lives triumphant from the grave;
He lives eternally to save.
He lives all-glorious in the sky;
He lives exalted there on high.
Women: He lives to silence all my fears;
He lives to wipe away my tears.
He lives to calm my troubled heart;
He lives all blessings to impart.
All: He lives, all glory to his name!
He lives, my Jesus, still the same.
Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives:
“I know that my Redeemer lives!” Text: Samuel Medley, 1738–99, abr.
SERMON 1 Corinthians 15:19-26
EXPLANATION OF SECOND ARTICLE OF APOSTLES CREED
I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity,
and also true man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord.
He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won
me from all sins, from death and from the power of the devil, not with gold or
silver, but with his holy, precious blood and with his innocent suffering and death.
All this he did that I should be his own, and live under him in his kingdom, and
serve him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness, just as he has
risen from death and lives and rules eternally.
This is most certainly true.

LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

CLOSING HYMN “Now All The Vault of Heaven Resounds”
Now all the vault of heav’n resounds In praise of love that still abounds:
“Christ has triumphed! He is living!”
Sing, choirs of angels, loud and clear! Repeat their song of glory here:
“Christ has triumphed! Christ has triumphed!”
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Eternal is the gift he brings, Therefore our heart with rapture sings:
“Christ has triumphed! He is living!”
Now still he comes to give us life And by his presence stills all strife.
“Christ has triumphed! He is living!”
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Oh, fill us, Lord, with dauntless love; Set heart and will on things above
That we conquer through your triumph;
Grant grace sufficient for life’s day That by our lives we truly say:
“Christ has triumphed! He is living!”
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Adoring praises now we bring And with heav’nly blessed sing:
“Christ has triumphed! Alleluia!”
Be to the Father and our Lord, To Spirit blest, most holy God,
All the glory, never ending!
