THE GATHERING OF THE COMMUNITY

Welcome

Processional “Worship Christ the Risen King”

Rise O Church and lift your voices Christ has conquered death and hell Sing as all the earth rejoices Resurrection anthems swell Come and worship come and worship Worship Christ the Risen King!

See the tomb where death had laid Him Empty now its mouth declares Death and I could not contain Him For the throne of life He shares Come and worship come and worship Worship Christ the Risen King!

Hear the earth protest and tremble See the stone removed with pow'r All hell's minions may assemble But cannot withstand His hour He has conquered He has conquered Christ the Lord the Risen King!

We acclaim Your life O Jesus Now we sing Your victory Sin or hell may seek to seize us But Your conquest keeps us free Stand in triumph stand in triumph Worship Christ the Risen King!

Introductory Response

O Lord, open our lips and our mouth shall proclaim your praise. Send your Holy Spirit upon us, and clothe us with power from on high. Alleluia.

Page 3: Easter 7 - staidan-ca.s3.amazonaws.com 7_ Se… · This was the oath you swore to our father Abraham: to set us free from the hands of our enemies, free to worship you without fear,

3

Blessed are you, creator, to you be praise and glory for ever. As your Spirit moved over the face of the waters bringing light and life to your creation, pour out your Spirit on us today so that we may walk as children of light and by your grace reveal your presence. Blessed be God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Blessed be God for ever.

Confession and Absolution

Dear friends in Christ, as we turn our hearts and minds to worship almighty God, let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, firmly resolved to keep God’s commandments and to live in love and peace with our neighbour.

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.

Merciful God, grant to your faithful people pardon and peace, that we may be cleansed from all our sins and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Praise Song “Be Unto Your Name”

We are a moment, You are forever Lord of the Ages, God before time We are a vapor, You are eternal Love everlasting, reigning on high

Holy, holy, Lord God Almighty Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain Highest praises, honor and glory Be unto Your name, be unto Your name

We are the broken, You are the healer Jesus, Redeemer, Mighty to save You are the love song we'll sing forever Bowing before You, blessing Your name

THE PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD

Psalm 68:1-10,33-36 ................................................................ p. 789 BAS

Let God arise, and let his enemies be scattered; let those who hate him flee before him.

Let them vanish like smoke when the wind drives it away; as the wax melts at the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.

But let the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; let them also be merry and joyful.

Sing to God, sing praises to his name; exalt him who rides upon the heavens; YAHWEH is his name, rejoice before him!

Father of orphans, defender of widows, God in his holy habitation!

God gives the solitary a home and brings forth prisoners into freedom; but the rebels shall live in dry places.

O God, when you went forth before your people, when you marched through the wilderness,

The earth shook, and the skies poured down rain, at the presence of God, the God of Sinai, at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

You sent a gracious rain, O God, upon your inheritance; you refreshed the land when it was weary.

Your people found their home in it; in your goodness, O God, you have made provision for the poor.

Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth; sing praises to the Lord.

He rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens; he sends forth his voice, his mighty voice.

Ascribe power to God; his majesty is over Israel; his strength is in the skies.

How wonderful is God in his holy places! the God of Israel giving strength and power to his people! Blessed be God!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen.

First Reading (Ian O’Brien) ......................................................... Acts 1:6-14

Canticle

You are God: we praise you; you are the Lord: we acclaim you; you are the eternal Father: all creation worships you. To you all angels, all the powers of heaven, Cherubim and Seraphim, sing in endless praise: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. The glorious company of the apostles praise you. The noble fellowship of the prophets praise you. The white-robed army of martyrs praise you. Throughout the world the holy Church acclaims you: Father, of majesty unbounded, your true and only Son, worthy of all worship, and the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide. You, Christ, are the King of Glory, the eternal Son of the Father. When you became man to set us free you did not shun the Virgin’s womb. You overcame the sting of death and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers. You are seated at God’s right hand in glory. We believe that you will come, and be our judge. Come then, Lord, and help your people, bought with the price of your own blood, and bring us with your saints to glory everlasting.

Second Reading (Rhoda Cairns) ................................ 1 Peter 4:12-14, 5:6-11

The Song of Zechariah

Blessed are you, Lord, the God of Israel, you have come to your people and set them free.

You have raised up for us a mighty Saviour, born of the house of your servant David.

Through your holy prophets, you promised of old to save us from our enemies,

from the hands of all who hate us, to show mercy to our forebears, and to remember your holy covenant.

This was the oath you swore to our father Abraham: to set us free from the hands of our enemies,

free to worship you without fear, holy and righteous before you, all the days of our life.

And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare the way,

to give God’s people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Gradual Hymn “Alleluia! The Strife Is O’er” ................................... #212 CP

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

The strife is o’er, the battle done; now is the victor’s triumph won; O let the song of praise be sung: alleluia!

Death’s mightiest powers have done their worst, and Jesus hath his foes dispersed; let shouts of praise and joy outburst: alleluia!

He closed the yawning gates of hell; the bars from heaven’s high portals fell. Let songs of praise his triumph tell: alleluia!

On the third morn he rose again, glorious in majesty to reign. O let us swell the joyful strain: alleluia!

Lord, by the stripes which wounded thee, from death’s dread sting thy servants free, that we may live, and sing to thee: alleluia!

Gospel Acclamation: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ

Gospel Reading ......................................................................... John 17:1-11

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ

Table Talk (Fr. Dean)

Apostles’ Creed ............................................................................ p. 52 BAS

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Offertory Prayer .......................................................................... p. 342 BAS

Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with you and the Holy Spirit, be honour and glory throughout all ages. Amen.

Offertory “Before the Throne of God Above ”

1. Before the throne of God above, I have a strong and perfect plea, a great High Priest whose name is Love, who ever lives and pleads for me. My name is graven on his hands, my name is written on his heart. I know that while in heav'n he stands, no tongue can bid me thence depart, no tongue can bid me thence depart.

2. When Satan tempts me to despair and tells me of the guilt within, upward I look and see him there, who made an end to all my sin. Because the sinless Savior died, my sinful soul is counted free; for God, the just, is satisfied to look on him and pardon me, to look on him and pardon me.

3. Behold him there, the risen Lamb, my perfect, spotless righteousness, the great unchangeable I AM, the King of glory and of grace! One with himself I cannot die. My soul is purchased by his blood! My life is hid with Christ on high, with Christ, my Savior and my God, with Christ, my Savior and my God.

The Lord’s Prayer

Collect of the Day ....................................................................... p. 344 BAS

Almighty God, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven. Mercifully give us faith to know that, as he promised, he abides with us on earth to the end of time; who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Doxology ...................................................................................... p. 214 BAS

Glory to God, whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen.

Recessional “Alleluia! Sing to Jesus” ............................................. #374 CP

Alleluia! Sing to Jesus! His the sceptre, his the throne; alleluia! his the triumph, his the victory alone. Hark! The songs of peaceful Zion thunder like a mighty flood; Jesus, out of every nation, hath redeemed us by his blood.

Alleluia! Not as orphans are we left in sorrow now; alleluia! he is near us, faith believes, nor questions how. Though the cloud from sight received him, when the forty days were o’er, shall our hearts forget his promise, “I am with you evermore.”?

Alleluia! Bread of heaven, thou on earth our food, our stay; alleluia! here the sinful flee to thee from day to day; Intercessor, Friend of sinners, earth’s Redeemer, plead for me, where the songs of all the sinless sweep across the crystal sea.

Alleluia! King eternal, thee the Lord of lords we own; alleluia! born of Mary, earth thy footstool, heaven thy throne. Thou within the veil hast entered, robed in flesh our great high priest; thou on earth both priest and victim in the Eucharistic feast.

Alleluia! Sing to Jesus! His the sceptre, his the throne; alleluia! his the triumph, his the victory alone. Hark! The songs of peaceful Zion thunder like a mighty flood; Jesus, out of every nation hath redeemed us by his blood.

GRATITUDE AND GIVING

We trust in God to supply our needs through this crisis and are deeply

grateful for his provision.

Thank you to all who have found a way to keep giving. You have

been generous. This allows us to continue the ministry entrusted to

this local body (albeit in adjusted formats) and to care for our

building in anticipation of being able to gather within it again.

If you are able to continue giving, here are the methods available:

Interac E-transfer to [email protected] (include your address in

the message if you have not given before).

Mail your envelope – we check the mailbox regularly.

Pre-authorized debit:

Download the form and return it to [email protected].

Arranging a time to drop off banking information is best.

Email [email protected] if you need to make adjustments

(please provide 10 days notice as the process cannot be

stopped closer to the date).

Go to staidan.ca, click on the DONATE link at the top of the page

to give through PayPal (this option has fees associated with it

and decreases the amount that comes to St. Aidan).

If you are not able to give because of changes to your financial

situation, we understand; still, please continue to pray with us for

God's graceful provision within our church body.

EASTER APPEAL UPDATE

Through your generous giving and the matching funds from the Diocese, St. Aidan has $12,750 to distribute. The community organizations we have given to in the past and that you have suggested are indicating that they too have been blessed financially recently. Therefore, the funds will be given once needs surface.
