East Valley School of Music Newsletter DECEMBER 2019 Hi Parents and Students! November has come and gone already, and now it’s time to prepare for the holiday season. That means recitals, events, and lots of great savings. This year, we also partnered with the Salvation Army to host our first Angel Tree. We are happy to see so many families helping those less fortunate. If you haven’t had a chance to get information about it, stop by the front office, and they can help! Our “Shopping with Santa” boutique event is a great way to finish your last-minute shopping and other small businesses like ours. Plus, Santa will be stopping by! In January, we are going to be launching some new classes, and making some additions to the way you receive your lessons. Stay tuned over the next several weeks for more information on those things. Thank you for choosing our school and our instructors to educate your children. Your support is important to us! We want to wish you a safe and happy holiday from our whole East Valley School of Music family, and we look forward to the exciting things coming in the new year! Here is what her instructor, Holly

Johnson, had to say about her:

Yuthika is a wonderful young musician in the making! She began lessons only this past summer and has flown through her first set of books. She is now midway through the next level! She has brought determination and hard work to every lesson. She is progressing every week! She has done so well, that I tasked her with learning a four-page song for her first ever recital! She has bravely taken on the task and succeeded. As a

teacher, I appreciate seeing a very young student that cares about and loves learning and growing in her musical studies! I am very proud of her!

~Holly Johnson

Congratulations Yuthika! We

want to thank you for your

commitment and your drive to

learn. We are honored to be a

part of your life and your

musical education. Keep up the

good work!

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Our school is closed from December

24th to January 1st in observance of

the Christmas and New Year

Holidays. We look forward to

spending the holiday celebrating with

family and friends and starting the

new year off with a bang!

We will still have lessons on Monday,

December 23rd, so if your family is

planning on traveling for the

holidays, please see your instructor

as soon as possible to get information

about their group make-up classes

and policies.

We are proud to announce our involvement this year

with the Salvation Army! Our school is hosting its first

ever Angel Tree! In the lobby, right next to the front

desk, you will find out angel tree and donation box! If

you’re unfamiliar with the program, the salvation

army will supply our school with Angel Tags. Each tag

represents a child, with a modest wish list. Grab a tag

off the tree, pick a gift, and bring it back to us,

unwrapped, and we’ll bag it up and make sure it gets

to the right place! In addition to our angel tree, we

will also have a “Forgotten Angels” collection bin near

the front desk. Our hope is to fill this box with new,

unwrapped toys and books, which will be used to

provide Christmas presents to the kids who didn’t get

picked from the tree, or whose tags were somehow

lost. This is a great option if you want to give back but

are limited on time. Just grab any new toy and drop it

in the box! This is going to be an amazing event

through the holiday and the perfect way to give back!

Hello hello, is this microphone on? Testing 1, 2, 3. Hello folks, this is the new

Dave to the EVSM community. I look forward every week to sharing my

expertise in piano and clarinet to the future generation. I must be honest that

music making is my passion and I sometimes actually spend 8-10 hours a

day at a piano in pursuit of making art. However, I promise that I have many

different interests and am not a complete musical nerd. In high school I was

the swim team captain, leading our team to our first district swimming title. I

also continue to swim less competitively and love hiking and seeing the

outdoors. As I am writing this on Thanksgiving, I am with family in Sedona,

seeing the wonderful red rock and snowfall! I enjoy listening to jazz, rap, and

of course classical music, as well as finding a good audio book to listen to on

my commute from Tempe. Happy Holidays and I look forward to seeing

everyone around- say hello if we haven’t met!

Best wishes,

David Gatchel
