Liven Up Your Party

Merry Christmas2 EVB MagazinE December 2012

ARE YOU READY?

During the crazy holiday season, in the world of a crafter each day is filled with a fun Christmas idea from VERY talented and creative women!

The many talents of a crafter is prac-tically endless. To be very honest they have the most unique gifts to be given.

The Christmas holiday is the one time a year that crafters bring out their best. Blankets, hats, scarfs, purses, belts, jewelry, picture frames, home decor, scraft books, Christmas decora-tions, bling, and so much more.

View your community calander to find crafter events. They will have their handmade unique gifts on display or for order no doubt.

You can not find many of these prod-ucts at any store, mall, or boutique. Depending on the craft most are very responable and sometimes may even walk away thinking you received a steal of a deal.

Reason being that crafters shop wisely, they either buy in bulk or actu-ally use those Hobby Lobby coupons. So to be quite honest if the crafter saves money so do you!

Unfortunately a crafter can spend hours making that blanket, scarf, or crochet hat, but at the end of the day love, creativity, and talent went into their product. No sewn on tag, or stamp of approval only customers that truly appreciate the craft itself. To many that’s all that matters.

You can find many local crafters on Facebook. A real popular Facebook group created by Maggie Lane-Baker, called Mom & Pop Crafter Bazzar (www.facebook.com/groups/Mom-NPopCrafters) reaching close to 600 members, local crafters display their products for sale.

They also don’t mind helping each other by suggestions and posting easy craft ideas.

A Crafters HolidayEsty.com and Pinterest.com have become very popular in the crafter community passing Ebay and Amazon on by. Many crafters even share Pinterest ideas on facebook.

Many of the high end store products such as frames, lamps, and even fur-niture are replicated without the fancy high price tag.

HGTV now has shows that insist on being “crafty”. Design on a Dime teaches how to re-create that 40,000 lounge chair.

Here is a quick do-it-yourself craft for the upcoming holiday.

The Fibromyalgia Arthritis Centers Of

America

The Fibromyalgia-Arthritis Centers of America (FACA) are considered to be the leaders in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases control. We operate in 20 states and have a large number of physicians partnering with us around the country in order to bring the much needed help to those now suffering from autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

In 1950, the Mayo Clinic won the Nobel Prize for determining that arthritis was a hormone deficiency. In 1992, the University of North Dakota published a double blind study in the medical journals. The studies at UND agreed with the findings of the Mayo Clinic. The question your now probably asking yourself, why haven’t I heard of this? We have a major problem in medicine today. Your physicians are being compensated by the insurance companies so poorly, and must see too many patients per day. Your physicians only hear of new technology if the drug companies wish to tell them. Problem, the hormone used is cheaper than aspirin. In order to use hormones safe and effectively, the usage must be customized for each patient. Physicians do not have the time to educate, train and monitor patients utilizing this type of protocol.

The leaders at FACA realized at that point in time, if they were going to get this revolutionary treatment to the public they had to put a medical team together to do all of the things the physicians didn’t have time to do. That has now been done. This treatment is now available in 20 states including Arizona. If you are suffering from, Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, Lupus, PMR, or any of the many autoimmune or inflammatory diseases please call or E-Mail our staff. A specialist will call you and set up your free evaluation.

Edible Arrangements – 85 W. Combs Rd. #112

Edible Arrangements of San Tan Valley is located at 85 W. Combs Rd. Suite 112 in the Fry’s Shopping Plaza. The Manager, Desiree Castro, has been in charge of this franchise for about a year now. From the piles of paperwork stacked on her desk, waiting to be filed, to the arrangements out on the production line waiting to be created, she does it ALL. What makes this franchise stand out from others? “Teamwork, friendly employees, and a clean, uplifting atmosphere are some of the first things that you will notice upon entering our store.” says Desiree. Although she has only been working at this location for one of the three years that they have been open, many drastic changes have taken place. Organization, better customer service, and a feeling of togetherness are just few of the great changes Desiree has brought into this establishment. “Before I came, everything was pretty disorganized and the way things were being run was very insufficient.” Desiree is always bettering the business by getting their name out there, whether it is through business expos, deals on Facebook, or even postcards that are sent out to current and potential customers giving them discounts on arrangements and boxes of dipped fruit. Another awesome treat that Edible Arrangements offers are seasonal arrangements. They have many Fall and Halloween related arrangements that are available right now!

The store hours are Monday through Friday: 9am to 7pm, Saturday: 9am to 3pm, and Sunday: 10am to 2pm.They offer weekly specials on their website www.EdibleArrangements.com and EXCLUSIVE deals and discounts to their Facebook fans at www.facebook.com/EdibleArrangementsOfSanTanValleyAll in all, if you are looking for a unique gift or treat for a loved one, friend, or family member, choose Edible Arrangements of San Tan Valley where they ‘Make life a little sweeter.’

special day. This is one of my many can dos and always willing to help out.

I also currently maintain 16 websites as a Freelancer called CarriesKreations. I love to be able to design and create.

I’ve been privileged to meet a lot of won-derful people in San Tan Valley. With me what you see is what you get. I consider myself honest, reliable, loving, outgo-ing, and I have a great personality. I do not involve myself in elementary drama or gossip. I’m here to raise my kids and hopefully build a successful business. I created a Facebook group page called the East Valley Homebased Business group on June 26, 2012 and within 24

hours the group had 258 members. I never in a million years would have imag-ined a group of close to 500 members. I just wanted to reach out to others in the same situation I am in. On July 6th I was asked to help organize a vendor mixer, was going to be 6 women showing off their products (like a Tupperware party) well it ended up being 62 vendors at the Poston Butte High School Gymnasium. We now have two events coming up: November 3, 2012 from 9-3pm called the East Valley Business & Craft Fair and December 15, 2012 from 9-3pm called the SANTA Valley Holiday Business & Craft Fair. Both events will also be held at the Poston Butte High School Gym-nasium.

This leads to the Magazine you are now viewing. As a home-based business, funds are very tight. I spend most of my

business funds on product, and I can barely afford the high priced newspa-per Ads, or radio commercials. So I have created the East Valley Business Maga-zine also known as EVB Magazine. The intention is to be so very affordable for the ones just like me that cannot afford advertising BUT desperately need it. How

Born in Frankfurt, Germany (Army Brat, daughter to a Sargent Major, whom is in Afghanistan as we speak, granddaughter to an Air force Vietnam Veteran) raised in practically every Army base known, but my true home is New Jersey. Was my very first home when my mom and dad moved back. I still have my family there and I’m very fortunate to be able to visit them at least twice a year. One of my main reasons for naming my home based business GlitZZed- is the name was also “born” in Germany which means showiness; flashiness: “a garish barrage of show-biz glitz” glitzy, flashy, showy, glitter, glitzen, to shine, from Old High German Language, I added an extra Z for the uniqueness of my per-sonality and I LOVE the meaning! It fits PERFECTLY!”

Mother of three wonderful children, and wife of eleven years. I moved to Johnson Ranch in 2006 from Dallas, Texas. To be honest looked really close on the map to where my family in Gilbert currently reside. A work transfer and having family out here in Arizona landed me in San Tan Valley and has been my home ever since. At first it took some getting used too, HUGE city to a one-way-in, one-way-out, one gas station “town” (at the time). I eventually got used to it and I truly love it out here.

I organized many events in Dallas, and seem to have an “act” for it, pretty much comes naturally to me. I really enjoy working with others and help create their

can WE let the community know that we are here? Well, that’s our mission.

Wikipedia stated that San Tan Valley has 81,321 community residents, which isn’t considered “small” anymore, but we want them to know that just because we don’t have a store front doesn’t mean we can’t provide what they are looking for and provide great service.

Difference is we don’t have the huge overhead that comes with renting the vacant overpriced slim picking “bou-tique” buildings out here in STV. I personally would love to have my own boutique someday. Who knows maybe someday I will.

I do know this, I WILL NOT GIVE UP. I always try to remember everyone you meet, talk to, smile at, or associate with IS A POTENTIAL CUSTOMER, treat others as you want to be treated, kindness and honesty keeps you and the people that you surround yourself with hopefully the same. If not…. at least you know YOU were!

With median home prices on the rise; it’s hard not to think of getting a bigger home for the family or renting out your current place, think positive cash flow and tax relief…

You need a plan. Get serious about selling your home then get a free home valuation. Be prepared to market the house. Remove any clutter, clean walls inside and out, paint as needed.

GOT EQUITY? Increase it by adding “Sweat Equity” as cooler weather is a great time to tidy up the front yard, add curb appeal & make the backyard a big hit with fun-filled family projects from your local building supply companies or use recycled items to bring new life to your backyard oasis. Adding a few plants goes a long way. Invite your neighbors over for a yard makeover and increase your man-power, then return the favor.

Stacey Tardif, who owns Sweetie Peaz Frozen Yogurt (along with her husband Dan) worked in property management previous to purchasing their business. She was inspired to open because she just wanted to work somewhere where people were happy to see them, not wanting to complain. “I have the best job in the world. People come to celebrate their birthdays, wedding proposals, graduations, first days of kindergarten. It really is good stuff, “expressed Stacey.

Stacey continues, “Our business is unique in that we really do strive to provide the highest level of customer service while having one of the cleanest frozen yogurt stores around. We also love supporting the community through fundraisers. Being locally owned and operated, this is our community too and we want to see it be the best!”

When asked what is the businesses “claim to fame?” she simply stated, “We only offer cool things, LOL! Honestly, everyone has a different love! Whether it is cake batter (my personal favorite) with Reese’s or fruit or the sorbet or plain old vanilla, we can find something for everyone!”

Their greatest success so far is that they just feel blessed they are open another day and that is a true success to them.

For advertising and marketing we love our Facebook fans. People get special discounts by liking us! You can find us at www.facebook.com/Sweetiepeaz. Also look for us on the web at www.sweetiepeaz.com or email us at [email protected].

Sweetie Peaz is named after Stacey and Dan’s daughter because she used to call her “my Sweetie Pea” when she was little. There is something amazing about owning your own business, but there are some days when Stacey is like, “Can’t I just have a Friday, too?” Of course, then she is reminded just how lucky she is!

The Tardif’s have a mobile side of the business at Sweetie Peaz as well. For larger events, we can come out and sell frozen yogurt at your event. We even hosted our FIRST birthday party at the store in September of 2012!! We gainfully employ 8 fabulous people.

We are open Mon-Thurs-11:00 am-10:00 pm, Friday and Saturday 11:00 am-11:00 pm and Sunday 12:00pm-9:00pm. Hope to see you HERE!

According to a recent reporter by eMarketer, online shoppers will spend nearly $55 billion this holiday shopping season in the United States alone. That’s up from almost 17 percent from last year, proving that online sales during the holidays are on the rise.

Be Organized. Make sure you keep your orders straight so your products don’t get sent to the wrong customer.

Use spreadsheets and online tools to manage sales, inventory, and shipments.

Use an online shopping cart system that has a powerful content management system built in.

Here is 9 BEST free online shopping carts

1. PretaShop 2. OpenCart3. Magento4. CubeCart5. AgoraCart6. osCommerce7. StoreSprite8. Zen Cart9. PayPal

This way, tracking inventory and sales is a snap.

Stock Up on Inventory. Get ahead of sales and build your inventory of products before your customers buy them. If you make your products by hand, it will be especially beneficial to your sanity to make the most popular items ahead of time.

Offer Holiday Discounts. Draw in new customers by offering coupon codes for free shipping or discounts on products for first-time customers.

Contact your best repeat customers and present them with special return-customer discounts to remind them to shop with you for the holidays.

Everyone’s budgets are tight around the holidays with so many friends and relatives to buy presents for, so reward your loyal customers with coupons and if your online store can accept digital coupons create a coupon code so they’ll save when they come back to buy holiday gifts from you instead of from your competitors.

The holiday shopping season should mean high customer traffic to your online shop because it’s the

optimal time for gift giving. Ensure that your shop can handle the increased web traffic and transaction processing.

According to Chase Paymentech, online retailers earn nearly 40 percent of their annual revenue during the holiday shopping season alone.

The next step would be to promote your online store through marketing and social media to draw more customers to your store.

Don’t miss out on big sales and be prepared this holiday season.

We all do things for “strange” yet remarkable reasons, always with the best intentions and challenging ourselves beyond our limits. Buying, trading and / or selling yard sale “treasures” is most definitely no exception. Well, at least for those that “get it.”

As I was perusing FaceBook yard sale groups and pages my heart started palpitating and my brain lit up like a light bulb. My lips turned into an “aha!” smile and my mouth was practically frothing. While studying intently upon such amazing gems (and I’m not speaking of rocks or jewelry), I realized not only the serious money making potential – but the challenge and fun of it all! Who doesn’t like a good treasure hunt?

So, as I spread my wings and took that flight I decided to have a hand at doing this type of craziness and turn it into a business. I see people online bartering and auctioning their findings and it’s really a hoot to follow. I’ve discovered that “shabby chic & distressed” furniture is a huge hit these days, not to mention old garage doors, used mattress frames, beaten down window panes (with or without the glass) and the list goes on and on.

Given this new found “addiction” of mine, I’ve found myself pulling out my own personal treasures and snapping pictures…uploading them to my newly created FaceBook group…putting price tags on them…and then practice some patience and wait.

Since 11/20/12 (8 days ago at this time of writing), my group has 114 members and I’ve generated over $400.00 in sales. In my opinion it’s a great way to make money while my husband is working and the kid’s are at school. So the saying holds truth that, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” However, in this case it’s, “Every woman’s!”

If this endeavor takes off and leads me into where I’d love to see it go

I would be thrilled to open up a local storefront in San Tan Valley. Displaying all my “goodies” would make me feel proud and happy. I personally know what it feels like to FIND that ultimate FIND.

Beyond selling my own effects I am constantly on the lookout for the next “greatest deal.” One never knows who exactly…wants what…exactly. I am focused, professional, anxious and eager whilst continuing to support local vendors and crafters. I am also willing to meet people at more convenient locations a few times a week.

I welcome you to join my FaceBook group located at

www.facebook.com/groups/stephstreasuretrove

My only caution if you think about doing something like this for yourself: BEWARE—there is a huge difference between collecting things and hoarding!

It is so easy to get sucked in and acquire more than you realized. Set a “sell by date” in your mind and remain aware of your inventory. If that particular inventory hasn’t sold (in say a month) get it out of your house and DONATE IT! Then, repeat the process.

Until we meet face to face or online, may all of your dreams come true and may you always have luck finding the treasures you most desire…and DESERVE!

All you have to do is follow five simple steps to create your own perfect look. Choose a color, add a bag, clutch, accessories, and jewelry to create a style that’s all your own. These bags are smart AND stylish with the intelligent interior!!

Can you imagine how fast it will come? Are you ready?

This year has gone by so fast. One thing is at least the weather is cooler. This always helps get you in the holiday spirit. Have you begun shopping? Are you done? Have you decorated yet? Just 24 days left and it will go so fast.

Whats your plan? Ok DON’T panic, we’ve got this. You can still get great gifts, as well as save money and time with these last minute Christmas shopping tips .

grab a pen and paper make a list.

Now look at the different websites for the better deals. Most of the major retailers promise a Christmas delivery as long as you place your order in time. Typically the deadline is December 20th. So let’s not waste any time!

Online shopping is an ideal way to grab those last minute Christmas gifts without fighting the crowds. Keep your address book and credit card in front of you so you can complete your order.

There are lots of great sales right now, so shop around to get the best price for your last minute gifts. Most stores have an online site, which means you can compare prices from your couch and save money on gas. Make sure you look at the regular price to make sure you really are getting a good deal.

If you do brave the stores, take a list with you and stick to it. With so many items marked down, temptation will call. Take the store advertisement with you to help you remember the exact item you want to get from the right store. Stores and malls have free gift wrapping available, take advantage of it. This saves you time and money while getting your last minute shopping done.

Put together gift baskets for friends and family. Baskets are marked down and it’s the perfect time to grab a few.

Go to the dollar store to save even more money. You can

put together a bath and body gift basket choosing from a variety of great smelling bath and body items. How about a writers gift basket? You can fill the basket with notepads, pens, journals, stationary and envelopes.

ALL else fails Gift cards make great last minute gifts when you’re not sure what to get.

BUT don’t be that lazy, be creative and tuck the gift card inside a Christmas mug filled with candy, or buy a Christmas stuffed animal and secure the card around the neck or to the arm with a piece of ribbon.

Be sure to read policy carefully, because some gift cards can only be used online, while others will let you use it online or in the store. Watch out for expiration dates and service fees as well.

LaBella grand Opening

So Unique..LaBella Boutique, owned and operated by Karen Winter & her daughter Lacey Stanek opened their doors to the public in August, 2012. Located at 22240 S. Ellsworth Road, Ste. 101 in Queen Creek just South of Ocotillo (on the West side of the road just South of the old post office), this unique boutique offers quality clothing that caters to women & teens of all shapes and sizes.

We carry sizes XS to 3X in our shirts & tops; 0 to 19 in our LA Idol jeans; we have up to size 22 in one of our other brands of jeans; we carry handbags of various sizes and styles, rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces and hats from various vendors. Our pricing ranges from $3.00 to $55.00. We are always looking to change up our inventory as we really like to keep things fresh and new!

Our goal is to support other local home-based businesses and home party businesses using our boutique to spotlight their products. We are not just a storefront. We are a traveling boutique, participating in a number of local events and fundraisers. We truly enjoy traveling and meeting all the wonderful shoppers out there.

We have yet to have had our official grand opening but this awesome event is officially scheduled Saturday, September 8th, 2012 from 9AM-4PM. We certainly hope to see you all there!

Our hours of operation are Wednesday through Friday, 4PM-

7PM; Saturdays 9aM-7PM and Sundays from10aM- 7PM.

We are also online at: labellaboutiqueaz.miiduu.com

or you may email us at: [email protected]

*an additional item that helps make us unique is that we are a boutique *

A little bit about the owner: “I am originally from a small town in Iowa, raising my daughter Lacey as a single mother. We moved to Arizona 21 years ago with only what would fit in my car which mostly consisted of kid’s toys and our family poodle. Lacey and I have been in Arizona ever since. We lived in Queen Creek when Queen Creek didn’t even have a grocery store.

We moved back into town but our hearts were in Queen Creek and returned here a few years ago. We love the small town feel even though it is growing.

Since moving to Arizona, I met a wonderful man that is very supportive of our dream of owning our own boutique. Lacey has been married to her husband, Frank for almost 2 years and they have a 7 month old boy named Kayden, who grandma (that’s ME!) loves to spoil daily! Rounding out their family is Frank’s 10-year old son Dominic and a 7-year old daughter

named Payton. My parents have also moved permanently to Arizona, so it is priceless to have all of my immediate family here to spend time with and to share the joy of opening our boutique.

Lacey and I love traveling, family vacations/get-togethers, going to the races, doing crafts and just trying new things and meeting new people.”

Heartbeat Health and

Like fingerprints, dental imprints are unique to every person, so bite impressions serve an accurate method of identification--not even identical twins have the same bite characteristics. A Tooth impression also captures saliva, which is a powerful source of human scent, thus making the wafer effective for scent-dog tracking. The saliva also provides a DNA sample.

One of the greatest fears of parents today is that their child will get lost or, worse yet, be abducted. Indicative of this concern is the fact that to date, 34 states have implemented AMBER Alert systems that issue state-wide public alerts about missing children. Dental DNA imprints give your DNA information for your child.

A few of dollars and a few minutes is a small investment to make for the huge return of being able to assist

authorities in tracking a missing child or making a positive identification. Dental DNA Imprints provides a unique record that can give parents greater peace of mind.

Heartbeat Safety Tips:

For many families, autumn events like Halloween and harvest day are fun times to dress up in costumes, go trick

or treating, attend parties, and eat yummy treats. Halloween isn’t like any other day, and all the wonderful things that make it special and exciting can also lead to problems that might be unpleasant or even dangerous. A little bit of planning ahead of time can make a huge difference in making sure that everybody has a great time. These tips will help parents ensure that their children stay protected and have a healthy holiday season:

1. Talk to your kids before a family outing or event. Make a rule that you must always be able to see them and they must always be able to see you. It may sound simple, but keep reminding them periodically; especially if you think they’re getting restless.

2. Map out your plan. Designate a route before your kids begin trick-or-treating, and make sure they stick to it. Take the long way ‘round. Have your kids trick-or-treat in areas where there are a lot of people around. They should also avoid taking short-cuts through alleys and parking lots.

3. Remain visible. Dress your kids in a bright costume so others can see

them. Be sure to remember what they are wearing If their costume is dark, have your kids wear reflective strips or carry a glow stick or flashlight. Don’t cover the face. Instead of masks, have your kids wear make-up so they can see well.

4. If visiting the shopping malls, consider using a cute harness for toddlers who are prone to running off. There are lots of fun ones out there that look like a lion’s tail or an elephant’s trunk. Your child’s safety is most important, so don’t worry about what others think.

5. Teach your kids that if they ever become separated from you, they should look for a “safe stranger” for help. Some examples include

a mom with kids or a cash register person. With older children, agree on a “meeting place” ahead of time, in case you become separated. Teach them if stranger approaches says,” I know your parent come with me”, Ask for the code word while standing a safe distance away from them. It is best to have the child find help, than to have a stranger approach them. Parents should make a code word that only your family uses. Tell your child never to leave the mall or store to go looking for you, no matter what anyone tells them. Remind your child that you would never leave until you are reunited.

6. Try tick-or-treat-friendly homes. Ensure your kids only visit houses with lights on. And, you might also suggest the houses they visit have some sort of Halloween decoration on the porch. Stay outside. Make sure your kids don’t go inside someone’s house. They can get their candy from the porch.

7. Discuss age-appropriate safety issues with your child in a calm, non-fearful manner. Replace the word “strangers” with “tricky people.” Let your child know that it isn’t what people look like that makes them unsafe; it’s what they ask a child to do that makes someone “thumbs down.” Kids have been known to leave with a stranger because “he seemed nice” or “she didn’t look like a stranger.”

8. Make sure that your child knows your cell phone #

9. Quality-check treats. Check your kids’ candy before they eat it. Throw out any candy that is not in its original wrapper or looks like it has been tampered with. Always feed children a big meal before they go trick-or-treating, so they won’t be tempted to eat any candy before bringing it home for inspection. As if being full has ever stopped any kid from eating free candy!

10. Parents should have an up to dated picture ID, finger prints, medical/dental records records and a tooth print impression with DNASo let’s get ready and practice safety measures this season!

After buying 6 different magazines that featured articles about organizers, I found and came to learn that these are the most popular and USED organizers out there!

Rubbermaid Bento Box

Target.com seems to be the cheapest retail store to individually purchase these “boxes”. You can also purchase as a set at www.rubbermaid.com. These can be mighty expensive and some require the lid purchased separately. What is name brand? If you can find these cheaper please save the name brand money and purchase them.

Fellowes Bankers Box Stackable Storage

I placed this on purpose directly under the Rubbermaid Bento Box, well because I have read that many use these as well or instead. They come in a variety of designs, however the picture you see above is the most popular.

The best deal found on Fellowes banker boxes and storage containers would be Walmart.com. Prices start from 6.99 and up.

ARC Notebook by Staples

Customize yours only on Staples.com prices vary depending on your requirements. You can buy ready made ARC Notebooks starting at 6.99 and up.

How many ways can you organize your Arc? The choices are endless, and so are the combinations. Its ultra-flexible design allows you to add, remove and rearrange your favorite pages and accessories again and again. Because when it comes to your busy life, you need a notebook system that can keep up.

Thirty-One GiftsYes they made the list of best organizers. Many crafters, business woman, stay-at-home moms, and teachers give Thirty-One Gifts two thumbs up.

Prices vary depending on your needs. These can only be purchased by visiting www.thirtyonegifts.com or through a Thirty-One Independent Consultant (Please see page 5).

Guarantee each family has one or even multiple carts. These are great for just

about everything. This product needs no description or marketing campaign . They come in many different sizes and colors. Best place to purchase these is www.walmart.com. Price range $16.97 and up.

NeatDesk

The NeatDesk is a bit pricey, so is ones time. $399.95 at www.neat.com. Great reviews and companies actually utilize this filing system. The Neat Company offers every customer a 30-day money back guarantee.

Repurposed Organizers

No matter how hard I looked, the

hundreds of websites, men and

women both agree that the best

organizer is made not purchased.

Salsa, jam, pickles and baby food—

what do they have in common?

They’re all packaged in glass jars.

Instead of tossing these leftover

containers, turn them, vintage mason

jars or canning jars into space-saving

home storage systems.

Shoebox Cord Keeper: Recharge your portable electronics — cell phone, iPod, BlackBerry, PDA — without getting your wires crossed. By repurposing a low-tech shoebox, you can organize and safeguard your high-tech accessories.

The next one is absolutely creative. Great for any craft room. Can also be used for practically anything.

Organize your craft studio by repurposing an old TV armoire. Recycle it by creating extra shelves and put racks on the doors to hold all your scrapbooking and craft supplies. This could even work for a sewing cabinet.

Perfect for makeup accessories such as eye blending sponges, Q-tips, cotton balls, and so much more. Great for screws, nails, tacks, washers, and so much more!!

Do you have a must have organizer or a hand-

made organizer?

Send it to [email protected] please include picture(s)

and if all possible instructions.

Directions

1. Beat butter, sugar, dry pudding mix and egg in large bowl with mixer until well blended. Mix remaining ingredients. Gradually add to pudding mixture, beating well after each addition. Refrigerate 1 hour or until firm.

2. Heat oven to 350°F. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into gingerbread shapes with 4-inch cookie cutter. Place, 2 inches apart, on greased baking sheets. Use straw to make hole near top of each cutout.

3. Bake 10 to 12 min. or until edges are lightly browned. Let stand on baking sheets 3 min. Remove to wire racks; cool completely. Decorate as desired. Insert ribbon through holes to hang cookies on tree.

Sugar Cookies

ingredients

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 teaspoon salt 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, softened (1 1/2 sticks butter is

3/4 cup) 3/4 cup sugar 1 large egg 1 teaspoon vanilla Equipment: 3- to 4-inch holiday cookie cutters several small heavy-duty sealable plastic bags (not pleated) if icing cookies Garnish: Ornamental icing*

Directions

Whisk together flour and salt in a small bowl.

Beat together butter and sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer at medium-high until pale and fluffy, about 3 minutes in a stand mixer or 6 minutes with a handheld. Beat in egg and vanilla. Reduce speed to low and add flour mixture, mixing until just combined.

Form dough into 2 balls and flatten each into a 6-inch disk. Chill disks, wrapped in plastic wrap, until firm, at least 1 hour. Put oven rack in middle position and preheat oven to 350F.

Roll out 1 disk of dough (keep remaining dough chilled) into an 8 1/2-inch round (1/4 inch thick) on a well-floured surface with a well-floured rolling pin.

(If dough becomes too soft to roll out, rewrap in plastic and chill until firm.) Cut out as many cookies as possible from dough with cutters and transfer to 2 ungreased large baking sheets, arranging cookies about 1 inch apart.

Bake cookies, 1 sheet at a time, until edges are golden, 10 to 12 minutes, then transfer to racks to cool completely.

Bake cookies, 1 sheet at a time, until edges are golden, 10 to 12

minutes, then transfer to racks to cool completely.

If using icing and coloring it, transfer 1/4 cup icing to a small bowl for each color and tint with food coloring.

Spoon each color icing into a sealable bag, pressing out excess air, and snip a 1/8-inch opening in 1 bottom corner of bag. Twisting bag firmly just above icing, decoratively pipe icing onto cookies. Let icing dry completely (about 1 hour) before storing cookies.

Make ahead: Dough can be chilled up to 3 days. Cookies keep, layered between sheets of wax paper or parchment, in an airtight container at room temperature 1 week.

I had a bad dream that night, and I rushed Dakota to the hospital immediately.

ONE iN A MiLLiOND a k o t a s D e s t i n y. c o mHi, my name is Dakota, I’m a fun-lov-ing 7-year-old girl, with the heart of gold. I really love HELLO KITTY, swim-ming, Super Mario, crafting, coloring, and painting.

On May 8, 2012, I came home from school and complained that my tummy hurt. Mommy and Daddy took me to the emergency room. It was later revealed that there was a tumor in my tummy.

The doctors have since diagnosed me with a rare type of cancer, Burkitt’s Lymphoma (Stage 3).

I heard them tell my mommy and daddy that the tumor was the size of a baby’s’ head and one on my lung and one on my lymph nodes (the body part that stores the cells that fights infections).

Mommy and daddy say I have been brave as I have already finished three (3) rounds of chemotherapy since May 8th. Each time I undergo a round of chemo, I have to stay at the hospital for at least a week. Despite intense nausea, mouth sores, and losing my hair, I am on my way to beating cancer!

And this is why my mommy and daddy are asking for your support. My mommy and daddy need to stay near me at the hospital each time I go in for chemotherapy.

What They Need Is Your support! Although they are insured, their insur-ance plan will not cover everything. Co-payments and deductibles will have to be paid in relation to Dakota’s medication, physician visits, hospital stays, chemotherapy treatments and time away from work so Jason and Kim can be at the hospital together supporting their daughter. In addi-tion to medical expenses, there are other major costs associated with caring for a child with cancer.

As Dakota battles cancer, our hope is that financial burdens are the last thing on this family’s mind, so that they can completely focus on help-ing Dakota beat cancer. Many of you know the Clark family and many of you may not, but know this.....no matter how you can help, your con-tribution will help ease the burden for this wonderful family.

Your guests will smile from ear to ear when they see these! What youll need:Cardboard tube 1 sheet each of red, white, and black felt Gold chenille stem Scissors White craft glue

How to make it: Cut cardboard tube into 1-1/2-inch segments. Place one piece of the tube onto the red felt and cut the felt just slightly wider than the tube. Wrap the felt around the tube and trim off the excess, leaving enough for a small overlap. Glue the red felt around the cardboard tube. (See photo.) Cut a strip of black felt, about 1/2-inch wide, and glue it around the red tube, lining up the seams. (See photo.)

Cut two strips of white felt, about 1/4-inch wide and glue them around the outside of the red felt, overlapping the edge a little. Cut a 3-inch piece of gold chenille and bend it into a square for the buckle. Glue the buckle to the black felt, be sure that the seam is on the opposite side. Let everything dry com-pletely. (See photo.)

Tips:These can also be made with construction paper or craft foam. Instead of gold chenille, you can use gold glitter glue, but you will need to take into account the drying time needed.

These will look just as good on fancy napkins as they will on rolled up paper towels!

Priceprotectr.com helps you get money back if items you bought have dropped in price. Register your purchases, and e-mails will arrive when the prices have fallen. Claim the cash with an e-mail, phone call, or store visit. gasbuddy.com and gaspricewatch.com track the cheapest gas stations by area. Plug in your destination to find the best places for filling up. Retailmenot.com amasses coupon codes for discounts at 15,000 online merchants. After you enter the e-tailer’s Web address, you will get a code to receive your price break. Go mobile with cellfire.com, a site that lets you access coupons on your cell phone. Then you show the code on your tiny screen when you are at checkout. Thegrocerygame.com (cost: $10 for two months) provides a weekly list of the lowest-priced products at your favorite supermarket, matched up with manufacturers’ coupons and specials to save even more. You can pay extra to sign up for multiple grocery stores. Honesty.com lets you know how much things usually go for on eBay and

what’s currently for sale there, so you don’t overpay when you buy. Type in an item name for price comparisons on current and recent eBay listings.

Pricespider.com and wishradar.com hunt online for the items you want at the most you’re willing to pay. Create a wish list and the most you’d spend for each purchase. Then the sites search for the products, e-mailing you when they turn up your desired price — or less.

Bookingbuddy.com consolidates many travel sites to get you low airfares, hotels, car rentals, and vacation packages with a targeted search. Enter details of your trip once, and then click on the names of the Websites you want Bookingbuddy to search — from Expedia to Priceline.

ShopSavvy (Free: iPhone, iPad, Android). Use your smartphone camera to scan a product’s barcode and ShopSavvy will find the lowest price for it on the Internet as well as show you the prices at local brick-and-mortar stores. The “Deals” feature will update you on shipping promotions, coupon codes, and other

ways to nab what you want for less, while “Price Alerts” lets you set your buying price and receive an alert when the product dips below your threshold.

gasBuddy (Free: Android, iPhone, BlackBerry). If you want help finding the cheapest gasoline in your neighborhood, GasBuddy taps into a community of users who update prices for other users. (In major cities, updates often are current within an hour.)

The app also doles out reward points for sending in reports. These can be applied toward tickets for a weekly drawing for a $250 prepaid gas card at the station of your choice. Compare it (99 cents: iPhone, iPad). Shopping at the grocery store can be a challenge when comparing various brands that have different unit sizes and prices.

Compare It can level the playing field by plugging in all the numbers (even converting metric to imperial) to let you see, in a graph, which product is the better deal.

Square (Free: iPhone, iPad, Android). As we move toward a cashless society, the need for people to be able to accept credit cards has spurred a growing niche. Does a friend owe you $40 but can never pay because he “forgets” to carry cash? Are you running a garage sale? This groundbreaking free app, with its no-charge plug-in hardware, turns your device into a credit card machine, thanks to the quarter-size square reader

that you attach. (Sign up at squareup.com, and the company mails you one.)

You’ll be charged a flat fee of 2.75 percent for swiped transactions. If you enter card numbers manually, your costs rise to 3.5 percent of the takings plus 15 cents per transaction because of the higher risk of fraud. P.S. i hear that MyBizNow.com has something simular and a cheaper percentage.

SavingStar This relatively new app helps you redeem paperless coupons – and earn rewards and cash. You enter your loyalty cards into the SavingStar app, and then you can look for ecoupons specific to your shopping habits. You get to add up your savings, and they appear in your account.

Your accrued funds can be deposited into your bank account, redeemed for gift cards, or donated to charity. This is an interesting app that not only helps you save money when you shop, but also helps you put that money to good use.

grocery iQ You can coordinate your grocery list, and check for the best prices with this app. Grocery IQ comes with barcode scanning, and allows you to sync your online list with what’s on your phone. The app also works with Coupons.com and CouponBug.com to help you find even more savings. One of the best ways to save money on groceries is to stick to a list, and this app helps you do just that.
