From the Principal ~
I would like to thank the parents/guardians for their support during this
school year. I also appreciate all the staff members who have gone above
and beyond this year helping our students be successful. Our counselors
did an outstanding job with scheduling this year, and with college and
career planning, also.
We passed out schedules for the 2016-2017 school year May 11, 2016. This will give
students time to make course corrections with their counselors. Physical Education is
required every semester unless the student has a full schedule or a medical or religious
exemption. Exemptions must be renewed every year with the counselor. Please look over
your student’s classes for next year to make sure the courses are correct. Students will
NOT be allowed to change their schedules next year unless we made a mistake during the
scheduling process. Please keep in mind that students increase chances for success in their
secondary education when they take more challenging classes in high school.
The last day for seniors will be Thursday, May 19th, with the seniors semester tests on May
17th, 18th and 19th. Seniors will check in laptops at the end of their last semester test. The
senior honors assembly will be held on Wednesday, May 18th at 5:00 p.m. in the EHS
auditorium. Commencement rehearsal is at the Tyson Events Center from 10:30 a.m. to
noon on Monday, May 23th, and is MANDATORY for seniors participating in
commencement. Senior Commencement begins at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24th at the
Tyson Events Center. All school fees and fines for seniors will need to be taken care
of before commencement. Please see Mrs. Ulven (Bookkeeper) in the main office, if you
have questions about fines and fees.
The Sioux City Community Schools will be conducting online registration for the 2016-
2017 school year in hopes of speeding up the registration process for parents and students.
All forms will need to be filled out online before students will be able to get their
computers. Students will be able to check out their computers on August 10th and 11th,
take school pictures with Life Touch, and have access to internet for registration. There
will be staff available during these two days to help with online registration.
This year’s graduating class of 347 has 269 students who earned over 1407 college credits
while in high school. They were offered $3,737,992.00 in scholarships. We have 258
seniors who plan to continue their education. The seniors have five classmates enlisted in
the military. We thank them for serving our country. We would also like to thank the
seniors for their leadership this year and wish them the best of luck as they go forth to
make a difference in the world. Thank you, seniors, for making East High School a
GREAT place to be!

Senior Parents/Guardians—
Your graduating student will have his/her original immunization card given to him/her
at the graduation practice. Please look for this and put it in a place for
safekeeping so you will have the information for future school admission and job
placements.
If you believe your student has additional immunizations from the Siouxland District Health
Department or your physician’s office, you will want to add these to your child’s immunizations card.
Whether or not your child is going on to a college placement, it is most likely that your son or daughter’s
physician or health care provider would recommend immunization boosters. These may include Tetanus,
Pertussis, MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella), varicella and Meningitis. Remember to ask your child’s
physician for any updated immunizations your student might need.
