The President’s BlockLaura’s Thoughts

Sew long for now, Laura Bishop, ECQG President

Did you know....March is National Quilting Month?

Celebrate by making a quilt, pillowcase or placemat for the guild community service projects.

Did you know….the March meeting has been canceled and our speaker Kathy McNeil has been reschedule for July 2021?

You might recognize some of the quilts on her website as award winners. https://www.kathymcneilquilts.com/ She has posted lots of free videos at https://www.kathymcneilquilts.com/free-videos.htm

Did you know..... that you can attend either or both meetings? Evening meeting - April 23 at 6:45 pm Mt. Bethel Community Center, 4608 Lower Roswell Road in Marietta, Georgia.

Day meeting - April 24 at 9:30 am in Nolan Hall at the Catholic Church of St. Ann, 4905 Roswell Road, Marietta, Georgia

Did you know .... that the password for the member section of the website has changed?

If you missed the email, send a request to Carolyn to [email protected] to get the new password. There you will find the up to date directory of members for 2020.

As we practice our new normal at this time of social distancing, there are ways to reach out to others. Send a note on a quilted postcard, check in by phone or text to check on friends and neighbors, quilt or sew something for someone (This is a great time to work on community service projects.) How about working on those UFOs?

Do you need to organize or reorganize? Also and most important, remember to take care of yourself.

East Cobb Quilters’ Guild Challenge 2021

YIPES, STRIPES! We return to earth and focus on the magic of stripes! They can be bold and dramatic, or soft and delicate. They can be patriotic. They can be complex or simple, bright or muted, printed or woven. Stipes can be manipulated into amazing contemporary patterns, or form a charming background for traditional appliqué. Stripes have the potential to demand attention and portray movement. The quilts will be featured in a YIPES, STRIPES! gallery exhibition during May 2021 at the Cobb County Sewell Mill Library and Cultural Center.

Rules for creating your striped 2021 Challenge Quilt: • Your quilt may be made in any manner: pieced, appliqué,

embellished, traditional, modern, or art quilt. • Striped fabric may be used, or stripes created by strips of fabric.

The stripes may form the entire quilt, or be used as accents. • It must have three quilted layers. • Minimum size is 30” on each side, and maximum size is 60” on

each side. • It must be made between January 2020 and January 2021, and

turned in at the January 2021 Guild meetings. • You must be a current guild member to participate in the

challenge. • Your quilt must have a hanging sleeve and a label on the back

with your name and the title of the quilt. • Participation in the May 2021 library gallery show is optional, and

challenge quilts may also be entered in the June 2021 “Georgia Celebrates Quilts®” Show.

Sunshine Two sunshine cards were sent by the guild in February.

My sunshine app must be broken because all I seem to see is rain. I did find some cards with a happy sun on them that I would be

happy to mail to someone who needs one.

In the meantime, here is a sunshine thought for the rest of us.

"A good laugh is sunshine in the house.” William Makepeace Thackeray.

Find something to laugh about today and open up your door and let that sunshine outside -- we need it!
