Located at the heart of the vibrant global city of Tokyo, Sophia University leads the drive toward internationalization and has developed a strong global network that attracts researchers and students from overseas to teach and study in Japan over the years. The Summer Session is structured according to two tracks of East Asian Studies Courses and Intensive Japanese Language Courses, which provide unique opportunities to learn wide-ranging academic knowledge and communication skills with a lively cosmopolitan community of students at Sophia.

Since its foundation in 1961, this program has provided participants with the opportunity to study about Japan and explore the country’s relation to Asia and the rest of the world. The students experience various aspects of Japanese culture and society, and witness the myriad of ways in which all cultures of the world are reflected.

We offer a variety of exciting and popular cultural events which we encourage students to participate in. These events have been successful in the past, so you are welcome to join. In the past Summer Sessions, we offered the events listed as below:

The 3 week session is tailored for students who want to improve their Japanese language abilities in an intensive program in Japan. To further enhance the effectiveness of Japanese language acquisition, students will have opportunities to practice their language skills or experience the culture through some outside-of-class activities with Sophia students.
