easa010 updateMay010 Issue xii
Each summer since 1981, around 400 of the
brightest students from every part of Europe
have come together for 2 weeks of intense
workshops, lectures, exhibitions and events,
in the name of exchange of ideas, culture and
experience.
In the summer of 2010 the 30th European
Architecture Students Assembly will be held in
city centre Manchester.

A Tale Of Two Mills
Following the announcement of the venue for the built workshop element of easa010 in newsletter 011, the team is delighted to unveil the venue for this year’s accommodation.
Downtex Mill is a four storey mill building on the bank of the River Irwell. The Mill will house accommodation, lectures, debate space, cafe and evening entertainment for the participants. The building provides a tangible link to Manchester’s industrial history and during the assembly will act as an emblem of contemporary post-industrial Manchester and as such create
a direct connection to the assemblies theme – identity.
The team are now working on making this shell into a venue fitting the 30th European Architecture Students Assembly; part of this is looking for sponsorship. If you would like to have your company advertised in the venue contact Tom Bennell at [email protected]

A Break For easaHQ
easaHQ staged its last exhibition before taking a break over the summer months. Unbuilt was the 14th exhibition of work in easaHQ. It was curated by Blank Media Collective, and was part of both the MADF and Future Everything. Appropriately for the space, the exhibition was a collection of work by recently graduated students of architecture who are facing an uncertain future in the current economic climate. Take a look at the Blank media website for details of upcoming events.
Website changes
Hopefully a few of you have spotted recent additions and changes to the website (easauk.net) in the last few weeks. Recent updates include both our competitions - Documation & A New Fabric For Hope Mill - a team page in the about section, and details of our conference, mentioned above, that we will be hosting at the end of June.Over the coming weeks further changes and implementations will take place to make it more user friendly as we approach the assembly. A media-rich user experience will be invaluable when promoting and documenting the assembly on a variety of devices. So place easauk.net in your bookmarks and keep checking back for the regular updates. You can follow us on Twitter (@easa010) or find us on Facebook too.
