Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, entertainer, and businessman. "Earth Song" is the third single from Michael Jackson's album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I. It is the fifth song on the second disc of the album. It is a ballad that incorporates elements of blues, gospel and opera. Jackson had a long-standing history of releasing socially conscious material such as "We Are the World", "Man in the Mirror" and "Heal the World". However, "Earth Song" was the first that overtly dealt with the environment and animal welfare. The song was written and composed by Jackson; the task of production was split between Jackson, David Foster and Bill Bottrell."Earth Song" was accompanied by a lavish music video shot on four geographical regions. It centered on the destruction and rebirth of Earth and went on to receive a Grammy nomination in 1997. The song was a top five hit in most European countries. In the United Kingdom, it remains Jackson's best-selling single and was the country's 1995 Christmas number-one single. "Earth Song" was not released as a single in the United States. Jackson went on to receive recognition from various animal and environmental organizations.

InterpretationI don't really fancy Michael but this song is awesome! He was a great loss since he was gone but his songs still touch everyone. I do believe Michael is actually a caring person. He also did some mistakes in his time. But why don't we look further? The saving and healing of the Earth was a subject that he lived and breathed, so it makes perfect sense that he would bring that awareness to his music, and especially his song writing. He sings about earth and world and nature and children and future of our world. He's a soldier who has protected the earth. Michael Jackson was a truly beautiful inside out and he was a unique in the music industry who has tried so hard to protect our planet while other human beings have abused it constantly. His artistic presence on this earth has illuminated new dimensions regarding the archetypal themes of suffering and transcendence. He was an authentic artistic visionary and a global healer of our time. Michael Jackson had the unique ability to sound like he was singing with a tear in his voice when he was touched deeply by the subject matter of the song. You can almost feel Michaels heart in the song. How he cares so much for the well-being of this earth we take so for granted. It took Michael Jackson six years to perfect 'Earth Song'. Before many people aware nowadays about our earth, he was quite ahead of the crowd and already noticed that, and it came to his concern about the environment. He was so selfless and polite. He only wanted people to change their hearts toward any negativity. I realized many scenes in the video are the things that I do concern now even though he released this song 7 years ago.

Earth Song was typical of Michael Jackson's beautiful and touching humanitarian themed inspired art. This song is really a masterpiece that perfectly reflects Michael Jackson's genuine feelings of responsibility that should be assumed by everybody to stop the suffering and torture of both nature and human being. It gives us motivation & advices. He's praying we all listen before it's too late, to be aware, heal the world and not destroy it. He wants to know what we are doing to this earth and what are we doing to each other. He is very honest about what is happening in the world and has been for a long time. It really does make you think how all we humans do is destroy ourselves and the planet that God has given us.Music VideoFirst you see all the devastation, but in the end you see the rainforest rise once again. The imagery in this song that Michael Jackson created is very strong and powerful. I'm not really an earth-lover but I believe I didn't do anything wrong, so the thing that happens on nature looks sad but it didn’t touch my heart that much. But when he included animals, like the dying elephant and when someone hit the seal with a stick, which touched my heart. LyricsThe lyrics asks how many of us will care about what we've done to the world. It matched the music video so well that it can touch the listener's heart, and their inner soul. This song describes in a perfect way the horrible state that earth is on.VoiceHe cared deeply about the planet and its people and 'Earth Song' was a universal a cry that could be understood globally, due to his non-use of language but passionate anguished pleas to convey his pain. His voice is flawless and has the emotion and power of his singing.

Lessons Learned

He wanted to tell everyone to "Heal the World" and to use our power to change the world and the people inside of it. It made me think, about everything that's happening and why we keep doing this. I hope one day that we can finally live in a world in peace if it’s not too late. The earth is where we all live and enjoy life. It also makes me realize what the world's coming into. Though we can't avoid that, we can just reduce some harmful activities. We should look back to see what we have done and try to recover it as much as possible. I think the earth's mightiest enemy was the humankind who suffer from corporate greed, globalization and environmental indifference. It really hurts me to see what we have done with the planet and all that is gone and that we will never recover. We have to ask people "What about us?" because in the world today, people don't even care about people, and don't care the planet. Maybe they're thinking about the world ending in 2012 so they doesn't care about the future generation. What they didn't know is that they are one of the factors that contribute to end the world.I think as humans we don't realize that there's one chance. We should stop it in our blood to destroy each other.

CommitmentWho cares? I care. After the seed was planted, now we realize what we've done to our planet. People need to care of the planet as best that they can. If we don't stand up for the earth, who will? Earth song reminds me that we have to change our ways so we can save our beautiful Earth. We must continue his advocacy and always try to save our world, and bring back the light into this life. I hope people read this review so they should stop producing stuff that we really don´t need, what we need is this planet to get well. We have the brains and power to keep the planet alive so we can live, I think that is a fair trade, so Earth can keep giving us food and water and all the things that we enjoy today.
