Rocks

• A rock is a natural, solid mixture of particles mainly made of individual mineral crystals, broken bits of minerals, or fragments of rock.

Igneous Rock

• Magma deep in Earth cools slow– large crystals

• Lava on Earth’s surface cools fast– small crystals

Metamorphic Rock

• Formed when solid rocks are squeezed (pressure) or heated. – New rock forms from old rock– Foliation- parallel bands of minerals form.
