Mission Driven

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

What is CAS?Creativity, Activity and Service

CAS, as a core component of the IB, encourages students to apply their knowledge and skills, to think outside of themselves and impact the world in some way while leading a healthy, balanced life.

Creativity: Exploring and extending ideas leading to an original or interpretive product or performance Activity: physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle Service: collaborative and reciprocal engagement with the community in response to an authentic need

Being “Diploma Eligible” STEP 2-Submit all assessment components and sit for exams

A total of six (6) IB subjects must be studied, with a combination of standard and higher levels (SL and HL).

For example:English A: Literature HL Mathematics SLBiology HL History SLMusic HL Spanish SL

Each subject has a combination of internally assessed components (IA) and externally assessed components.These components, are a portion of the overall score a student receives after examinations in May.

Being “Diploma Eligible” STEP 3- Earn exam scores

Each subject is graded between a score of 1 to 7. That grade is a combination of scores earned on exams, IAs and other externally assessed components.

A student must earn a MINIMUM of 12 HL points and 12 SL points.

ToK and EE are graded A-E. A student can earn 0-3 points based on their ToK and EE grades.

Minimum points for which a diploma is awarded: 24Maximum Diploma points possible ((6X7)+3)= 45

Disqualifying Criteria

ANY of the following WILL NOT earn an IB diploma:1) Failure to complete 18 months of continuous CAS

experiences and to complete the 7 learning outcomes2) Earning a grade of “N” in ToK, the EE or for a

contributing subject3) Earning a grade of “E” in ToK or the EE4) Earning a grade of 1 for any subject or level5) Earning more than two grades of 2 in any subject or

level6) Earning more than three grades of 3 or below HL or SL7) Earning less than 12 HL points8) Earning less than 12 SL points9) Receiving a penalty for academic misconduct from the

Final Award Committee

Words to the wise

1) Do school the way you’ve always done school.2) Be PROACTIVE. 3) Submit your Internal Assessments to your

teachers within the deadlines they give you. 4) Listen and respond to the feedback given to

you by your teachers. 5) Complete your CAS project no later than the

summer between your junior and senior year.6) Complete all CAS experiences by April 15th of

your senior year. 7) Study for your exams.
