If they can read, let them help read the story to you. Non-readers can ‘read’ the pictures to tell you what they think the story is. Put the book to one side. Ask the children which sea creature is their favourite in the book and why. Offer the children the paper and pens/pencils etc. Ask them to draw their favourite sea creature. If they ask to copy the picture from the book, let them have a quick glance and ask them to try and draw from memory, or how they think the creature looks. With younger children encourage mark-making. Allow children to pick the colours they want to draw with, even if they aren’t accurate!
