The sound ‘s’ added on the end of a word is not an ending because
a) it does not add avowel sound and,therefore,
b) it does not add asyllable.
Spelling Rules Rule 1 = When a word has something added,
• say the base word first,• sound the base word,• then pop the ending, or the ‘s’ on the
end.e.g. cheerful = cheer + ful
Rule 3 = Use the letter ‘k’ for the sound [c] when the next letter is e, i or y.
e.g. skittle, kicking
Rule 9 = Use the letters ‘-ve’ when the sound [v] is the last sound in the word.

Revision of terms covered in previous years • A noun can be the name for a person, the name
for a place or the name for a thing.
• A verb is a doing, or action, word.
• A pronoun is the word we can use instead of anoun.
• An adjective describes a noun.
