Providing high-quality early childhood services

Early Childhood Education in the EVSCEarly childhood education lays the groundwork for success later in school by successfully preparing students to enter kindergarten on time and ready to learn.

To make this happen, the EVSC offers high-quality early childhood preschool and childcare services throughout the corporation. These services focus on active learning - making learning fun for students, allowing them to explore new things and providing them with new experiences with which they can build knowledge. Early childhood education in the EVSC is coordinated through the Culver Family Learning Center. Preschool services are offered to children ages three to five, including those with special needs.

EVSC Early Childhood ServicesEVSC Early Childhood Tuition-Based CentersThe EVSC offers three satellite early childhood centers across Evansville for families who would like to enroll their children in high-quality early childhood education. These programs follow the strict standards set by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

The fee-based centers are open all day, Monday through Friday, to children ages three, four and five and tuition rates are very affordable. Vouchers also are available for families, if needed.

Research shows that young children are naturally interested in learning and exploring the world around them, developing ideas about how things work and then trying out those ideas.

The curriculum used in EVSC Early Childhood programs, the Reggio Emilia Approach, follows this natural interest and builds upon it.

In EVSC classrooms, students take an active role in their learning, generating their own ideas for projects and teachers serve as guides, helping them along. Classrooms operate at a slower pace to allow students time to think and create, and to allow students the time to express their ideas in many different ways which reinforces their learning. To further help students, teachers work to capture what the children are learning using words, drawings and photographs.

Reggio Emilia Approach

To make it as convenient as possible for parents, the EVSC has three satellite, fee-
