New Look for Eagle Pride
Eagle Pride is being published in an updated format to better document the
activities of the Aerie and Auxiliary. We hope you like the new look. Jean
Transmeier, longtime dedicated Editor, is looking forward to expanding the Eagle
Pride Staff. If you can help out as a copy editor, proof reader or photographer,
please let her know.
Our Aerie and Auxiliary maintains an active schedule of activities and charity
fundraisers. The success of our activities depends on the participation of our
members. A monthly newsletter that publicizes upcoming events and
documents the member dedication and participation in a timely manner should
help to increase member participation.
The Eagle Pride staff hopes that our new editorial policy (See page 2) and
coordination with our Communications Committee, Facebook Coordinators,
and Webmaster will help us to keep our members better informed about FOE
#595 activities. Your comments and feedback are always welcome.

F.O.E. #595 Website
Once again, our Aerie has a web
presence at www.eaglesaerie595.com.
One goal of the website is to inform
visiting Eagles and non-members who we
are and what we do.
The latest newsletter and Aerie calendar
are posted. The input from
Aerie/Auxiliary officers and members is
necessary for our website to remain
current.
For late breaking news, our Facebook
page and email blasts from the

best sources. Make sure your email

Hi Brothers and Sisters, July is almost gone and I want to say thanks to

The month of August is for C.A.S.A. by Carol White and Gabe DeGabriele.
Haven’t heard what all is planned. I know Chicken Fry is August 4th.
Chicken Fry in September is moved to Sept. 8th due to Labor Day
weekend. Carol and crew can use all the help we can give them. A
Cornhole Tournament is planned for August 18th. Charity Breakfast is
August 19th.
There will be breakfast all four Sundays this month with a crew for each
Sunday. Check the calendar.
Many of our members will be heading out on Aug. 31st to 11-Mile
Reservoir for the Eagles Campout on Labor Day weekend.
Leadville’s Anniversary is August 18th. That is usually a lot of fun and is just
a day trip.

Drinking and Driving…Is it worth it?
What is DUI/DWAI?
Driving While Ability Impaired (DWAI) – If your ability is impaired to the “slightest
degree” by alcohol, drugs or even prescription medications, or if your blood alco-
hol content (BAC) is found to be in excess of .05 but less than .08, you can be
charged with DWAI.
Driving Under the Influence (DUI) – If you are “substantially incapable” of operating a
vehicle after consuming alcohol, drugs or prescription medications, or if your
blood alcohol content (BAC) is at or above .08.
In Mesa County during 2017 there were 550 charges for DWAI/DUI
The County Court system issues criminal penalties for alcohol or drug-related arrests when there are
no other felony charges involved. The following penalties vary and will be determined by the court. At-
torney fees average $10,000.00 and are in addition to everything else.
In addition to the fines listed above, you may also have to pay penalty surcharges of up to $500, and an-
other $200 for alcohol treatment evaluation, as well as surcharges to benefit crime victims.

Volunteers
Aerie #595 runs with the efforts of our volunteers.
Almost every worthwhile activity depends on volunteers
stepping up to tackle the task at hand, but we seem to
have a a difficult time attracting new volunteers. As with
many other organizations, 20 people do 90% of the work.
The more members get involved, the more they get out
of being an Eagle. Volunteering is one way to give back to
the Aerie. When we joined the Aerie or Auxiliary, one of
the interview questions that we were asked was related
to volunteering. We all had good intentions when
answering the questions, but as time passed many of us
got sidetracked, life got in the way or more likely we just
didn't know how we could help. Maybe no one asked.
Volunteer Opportunities
Among the needed volunteers tasks to consider: food
prep, cooking, serving, event set-up, event decorating,
event cleanup, dishwashing, bingo worker, light
housekeeping, seasonal cleaning, volunteer coordination
or marketing committee member. Don't worry about
being lost, we'll train you. Don't worry about doing it
yourself, we'll find you help or you can be part of an
existing crew. The volunteer's motto should be "See it,
Do it, Teach it." We look forward to working with you!
A good Eagle is expected to help and/or donate as little
or as much as they can. We only ask that you try to
participate and have fun doing it. We don't keep records
of who or how much anyone volunteers. But, for most of
us - the fun is in the doing - while building new
friendships and making a difference in our community.
How Volunteers Start
Stephen McFarlane in his blog post (Ontario Provincial
Aerie and Auxiliary Membership Challenge #2) writes:
"Ask any long-time Eagles volunteer how they started
volunteering and they'll tell you the same story.
It goes like this:
'I joined with no intention of getting involved. Then one day
someone asked me to help out in the kitchen/help decorate
the banquet room/join the ritual team/sell raffle tickets. It just
went from there.'
The three key words here: someone asked me. If you're an
active Eagle Aerie or Auxiliary, it's your story too."
Aerie
Volunteer of the Month
Tom Vogt
We love Tom. Besides
blessing us with his sense of
humor, he helps in the
kitchen with Kelly. He is an
avid Eagle Rider and is plan-
ning the monthly rides that
will occur this summer.
We look forward to more.
Auxiliary
Volunteer of the Month
Kelly Albright
Kelly is always right on top of
things. She cooks breakfast
with Tom Vogt. You all loved
her grits. She will pitch in to
help wherever needed. She
has even been known to help
behind the bar when needed.
She is probably in a few more
places around here, including
playing cornhole. Way to go
Kelly - get ‘em gal !!
Volunteers in Action

morning breakfast at the Aerie.
Page 8 Eagle Pride
The Eagle Riders had their meeting on July 16th.
In September a ride is planned to Dave Williamson’s cabin
on Grand Mesa. We will meet here at the Aerie at
9:00 am for breakfast and be on the road by 10:30 am.
Discussion was held about doing the Pit Bull Ride in June
next year. Looking into that.
Discussed doing Picnic in December on Sat., December 8
with a Cornhole Tournament at 2 pm and dinner at 6 pm.
More on this after September.
A ride is going to be planned monthly while the weather
holds. The next ride is planned for August 26. Tom Vogt
is deciding where we will go.
Watch the calendar for news from the Eagle Riders.
Linda Cruz, Secretary-Treasurer
In July the Junior Eagles did both a car wash and a
Pulled Pork Dinner. I’d like to thank Dillon and
everyone who helped with the Car Wash, and of
course thank you to Carol White for her guidance.
We are looking forward to a fun end-of-summer
outing at Bananas.
With summer ending and school starting again, we will
strive to have more meetings in the future. The Jr.
Eagles are in need of new members! Anyone between
the ages of 12 and 18 may join.
We are currently committed to the charities Kids
with Leukemia and Prevention of Child Abuse. Thank
you for supporting the Junior Eagles and their
charities.
Any questions or suggestions for making this a
successful year for the Jr. Eagles should be sent to
Carol White or myself.
