Methanol/waterfuelqualityiscriticaltothecorrectandreliableoperationoftheH-serieshydrogengenerator,careshouldbetakentoensurethatfuelisqualitycheckedwheneitherpurchasingpre-blendedfuelormixingiton-site.
Oncefuelqualityhasbeendemonstrated,periodiccheckstoensurequalityismaintainedwillhelpthehydrogengeneratorreliablymakeoptimumquantityandqualityhydrogenformanyhours.
TherearefivetestsrecommendedbyElement1:
AppearanceTest
1. Checkthatthemethanol/waterfuelblendhasbeenshippedorstoredintheapprovedstoragecontainermaterials(see“MethanolandWaterFeedstockBlend”document,section4(a),“StorageGuidelines”undertheElement1websiteResources).Deionizedwaterisextremelycorrosivetomanymetalsandrustormetaloxideswillcontaminatethefuel.
2. Pourasampleofthemethanol/waterfuelintoapreviouslycleaned,clear250mlgraduatedcylinderapprovedformethanolcontact.
3. Holdthegraduatedcylinderuptoabrightlight(sun,flashlight,etc)andlookforanysuspendedparticles.
4. Rejectthefuelifanyparticlesaredetectedinthefuel.Particlescancausethefuelpumptofail,clogthereactorandcausepre-maturefailureofthehydrogengenerator.
ConductivityTest
1. Rinsetheconductivitydetectorcontactswithdistilledordeionizedwater.2. Insertthedetectorcontactsintothefuelandmeasuretheconductivityofthesamplefromthe
