Purchase SPPCS “Scrip Cards” for your shopping and gift giving needs!

Scrip cards make great gifts and in addition, consider purchasing “scrip cards” to use in place of cash, checks or

credit cards for purchases you make.

How does that help St. Augustine families? Each SPPS student

family is required to earn $250 each year in fund raising. Plus,

each student must pay $400 registration and book fees. Then the

tuition begins. At the end of each month the rebates from scrip

sales are tabulated and applied to the family’s account. You may

designate a particular family or St. Augustine students as a group

in which case it will be equally divided. Order forms are located in

magazine rack in front vestibule of church. Please consider trying

this program and perhaps add an item each month to help our

parish support the SPPS/St Aug. families with absolutely no cost to

you. Order forms may be returned in collection basket with check

or given to Betty or Annette Schreder or any SPPS student family.

Any questions may be directed to same people.

  • This Sunday starts National Vocations Week. In

the Gospel today we hear that Jesus is the root of all vocational

calls. We are all partakers in Him as His Body. This week let us

especially pray that God will stir up a desire in more young

people to be led by Jesus in the service of others to build up

Christ’s kingdom here on earth. The gifts and talents we receive

are not for our own well-being, but must always be directed to

humbly serve the Body of Christ in the headship of Jesus.

  • The Fifth Joyful Mystery

THE FINDING OF JESUS IN THE TEMPLE

    1. When Jesus is twelve years old, He goes with His parents to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover.

    2. After the feast of the Passover, Joseph and Mary unknowingly set out for Nazareth without Jesus.

    3. At the end of the first day's journey they discover Jesus is missing. 4. His parents return immediately looking for Him. 5. This loss causes grief and anxiety beyond our understanding to the

    hearts of Mary and Joseph.

    6. On the third day they find Jesus in the Temple among the Doctors who were astonished at His wisdom.

    7. Mary: "Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been searching for you in sorrow."

    8. Jesus: "Why did you search for me? Did you not know that I must be about my Father's business?"

    9. Jesus goes down with them to Nazareth, and is subject to them. 10. Mary keeps all these things in her heart.

Spiritual Fruit: Let us pray for all the victims of hurricanes, earthquakes,

and other natural disasters – that the outreach and generosity of others

will bring some relief and comfort during these trying times.

    NEWS FROM SPPCS…

SPPCS held an outdoor Rosary Service on the playground recently. The students gathered around a balloon rosary, made earlier in the day by the eighth graders, and prayed for many special intentions. These special intentions were tied to the balloon rosary and the prayers were "lifted to heaven" as the balloon rosary was released following the prayer service. It was a wonderful way to end October, the month of the Rosary. SPPCS Veterans Day Program; Thursday, November 9, 9:30 a.m. SPPCS Gym; All Are Welcome!

If you have never had the opportunity to attend our SPPCS Veterans Day

Program, please mark your calendars! Classes have prepared poems, songs, and prayers to honor our soldiers. As always, the program will also

include our annual Veterans Day video, which will feature relatives of our SPPCS students who have been in the armed forces. It is a way that SPPCS

can honor all of our veterans. All are welcome, so please feel free to invite

relatives, friends and veterans to our special program.

  • PAROCHIAL SCHOOL TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS --INTERESTED IN APPLYING FOR OR DONATING TO?

You may have heard of the new Illinois law that allows for a 75% Illinois state income tax credit for those who donate money, through Scholarship Granting Organizations, for tuition assistance for parochial and private school students. The state regulations are being finalized, but the program will start on January 2, 2018, for the scholarships for the 2018/2019 school year. Families will also have to apply, to the Scholarship Granting Organization, to receive scholarships. Please see the enclosed literature for both donors and parents. Perhaps some families with students now in Parish School of Religion programs or already enrolled in Catholic grade school might be interested in this program. Those who want to donate can now obtain a My Tax Illinois Account so they can donate in early 2018. Donations for which an Illinois Tax Credit is received cannot be deducted as a charitable expense in a donor’s Federal Tax return, so please consult your tax advisor. This does not affect our own St. Augustine Scholarship Fund for our SS. Peter and Paul students. We will continue this Fund as in the past two years. SS. Peter and Paul School should soon have staff people ready to assist parents in applying for scholarships. Please see our parish website and the Diocese of Belleville website for more info as it becomes available. This is the first year of the program, so we will see how it goes. Certainly, though, if no one donates, there will be no funds available for scholarships. If no family applies for scholarships, no benefits will be received. So, please consider if you would like to be a donor or a scholarship recipient in this new program. Thanks! Fr. Von Deeke
