Funded by the Scottish Funding Council with support from Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the Innovation Centre programme was first launched in 2012.

Scotland’s seven Innovation Centres work across a range of key sectors, from sensing to precision medicine, digital health and care to data, aquaculture, biotechnology and construction.

The common aim is to help businesses large and small increase the pace of innovation and, in turn, help both our economy and our people to flourish and prosper.

We can:

• Connect you to the companies that are already breaking new ground in your sector

• Reach out to the leading academics doing specialist research in your field

• Forge links with other public sector and third sector collaborators who might be of help

• Provide and advise on routes to funding, whether from the Innovation Centre programme directly or from other funding streams

• Upskill the next generation of business and academic leaders via internships, secondments, MSc programmes and PhD studentships

And because we’ll be on hand throughout, you’ll also have an expert and informed delivery partner to help and advise at each and every stage.

When it comes to innovation, coming up with the core idea is one thing – implementing it can be quite another.

Often, it demands industry know-how, specialist research and new skillsets, not forgetting additional sources of funding.

Scotland’s Innovation Centres can help

WELCOME DR MARTIN VALENTI

CHAIR OF SCOTLAND’S COUNTDOWN TO COP26 AND HEAD OF CLIMATE ENTERPRISE AT SCOTTISH ENTERPRISE

The countdown to COP26, the UN climate change conference taking place in Glasgow in 2021, is upon us, and while our ‘Scotland’s Countdown to COP26’ virtual conference has been many months in the making, we hope that it is just the beginning. With COP26, Glasgow will host arguably the most important international gathering on climate change there has ever been, and that gives us the chance to have our voice heard in the world. Scotland may be a small country, but we have the ambition and capabilities to turn the climate emergency into a climate opportunity for solutions.

Scotland’s Countdown to COP26 on 3 November 2020 is a collaboration between the Scottish Innovation Centres, who are supported by the Scottish Funding Council, Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands & Islands Enterprise, and Newsquest Scotland. It will kick off a

year of conversations, collaboration and, most importantly, action, that will help us to make a positive collective impact. We all have to work together to combine our expertise and generate ideas that are bigger, faster and bolder than anything else we have done in the past. We have received an overwhelming response to our event with over 1800 delegates registered and we are hugely excited about the opportunity this presents.

The day’s programme has been designed to promote the unrivalled resources available to us in Scotland, including our Innovation Centres, and we have secured 75 fantastic speakers to discuss how we can all make changes to the way we live and work. The day will begin with our headline plenary speakers, then there is a range of themed sessions in the afternoon concentrating on different sectors and areas of expertise - from the built environment and transport to health

and wellbeing. Closing the day is a live panel discussion with the seven Innovation Centre CEOs to review the day and look at what’s ahead.

I’d recommend that you take a moment to familiarise yourself with the Hopin platform to ensure you get the most out of the day. Just like a real-life conference, there will be opportunities to ask questions, network with other guests, and visit our exhibitor booths to hear more from the Innovation Centres. Please also add a photo and bio, including contact details or social media handles, to your profile to allow people to get to know you – after all, today is about finding future opportunities for collaboration.

Climate change may be the greatest challenge of our time, but together we can turn meaningful discussion and good intentions into positive action. This event marks the start of an important journey – please join us.
