The quality of technology we have would easily be

Examples are our laptops, cellphones, televisions

Cyber bullying

What is cyber bullying? What causes

it? How does it affect the person being bullied?

Most of us are wondering about how it started

and what to do to end this social problem. In

this essay, I will be discussing the factors that

leads to the problem and the solution to it. I

will also show the effects of this social issue to

everyone especially the victims.

Cyber bullying is the use of

technologies especially the internet and

computers to bully or hurt someone verbally.

This social issue is very alarming because as

time goes by, more and more people are being

cyber bullied. These cases are increasing

mainly because there is no rule or law that is

preventing the people using the internet or

Exit Essay Cyber bullying: What it really is

Cyber bullying is the act of insulting

or harming other people through the use of

internet. Most of the people know what it is,

but what is really its causes and effects? This

problem is really alarming to the society. The

government should start passing laws that

would penalize all who commits cyber bully

crimes.

There are many causes of cyber

bullying. These are personal insecurities,

family issues and bad influences. Bullies want

to feel that they are superior over other people

because of their inner insecurities. They want

to show others that they are the best. Some

bullies have big family issues that influenced

them to mock others. In some cases, the bullies

were abused violently when they were younger

III. Essay Think of any topic, preferably a current social issue. Then, write a two-page(at least 500 words) essay that

tackles the entire perspective on the said topic. In writing your essay, clearly explain the concept/issue

and support it with relevant ideas. Use indention paragraph and double spacing. Use black or blue ball

point pen only.

Page 23: E-Portfolio - WordPress.com · E-Portfolio Hillary Ross C. Fong Ms. Glendora Tiu S20A . I. Reference Chart. Reference Details Summary Paraphrase Direct Quotation RCQ Cuevas-Miel,

social media from insulting and bullying other

people. Because of these, the victims' lives are

affected greatly. There should be a law that

would prevent this from emerging.

In my old school, there have been

many cases of bullying especially through

internet. My classmate is one of the victims.

He was insulted and teased through facebook.

He just posted a photo and many people

commented bad and hurtful words against him.

Some of the bullies are from our school but

some are not. I can see the effect of these on

him, he became introvert and sad. He doesn't

talk that much anymore. It is really sad because

he can't do anything. He doesn't use the social

media as much because he was scared to be

bullied again. The effects are really big which

also affects the studies of the victim. It also

makes people lose their self confidence and

lower their self-esteem. Too much of these

may result to emotional breakdown or suicide.

We all know that bullying is bad but

which made them want to hurt others also.

They are also influence by their surroundings

especially in school. If a person's friends are

bullying others, it would also affect his

decisions because of peer pressure. They are

pressured to fit in so they also do what the

majority does. This is really very alarming

because of the huge effects it causes the

victims.

This social issue affects the victims

emotionally, socially and mentally. Their

education is also affected because most of

them don't want to go to school after being

cyber bullied. It traumatized them which

affected their mentality. They don't mingle and

talk to other people because they are scared

and ashamed. They became introverts and

prefer being alone. They seldom interact with

others. Their emotional stability is at risk

because they live in fear and sadness. They are

keeping their problems to themselves. In worst

cases, they commit suicide. Instead of enjoying

their lives, they limit their interactions and

Page 24: E-Portfolio - WordPress.com · E-Portfolio Hillary Ross C. Fong Ms. Glendora Tiu S20A . I. Reference Chart. Reference Details Summary Paraphrase Direct Quotation RCQ Cuevas-Miel,

we should also understand why the bullies do

this and what urges them. I have seen and

heard from the T.V. that insecurities and

family problems lead to cyber bullying. The

bullies want to feel superior over other that's

why they want the victims to feel down. The

unresolved family issues also affect the way

they act and think. I also think that the parents

don't give much attention to their child and

they lacked on disciplining them.

Now, the problem is how to prevent

these kind of thing to happen again. I think the

government should push through the

cybercrime law to protect the rights of the

people especially in social media. Most of the

people say that it would violate our right to

freedom of speech but for me, the freedom of

speech should be used to tell or express what

we feel but should not affect anyone badly.

The people should cooperate and follow the

law so that less casualties will happen. This

law doesn't step on our rights but protects all of

us instead. This cyberbullying will not benefit

communications with others.

The government should start

formulating laws that would prevent the bullies

from insulting or hurting other people through

internet. The parents should also be responsible

to discipline their children properly. They

should be more sensitive and disciplined

before posting anything. Proper internet

etiquettes or netiquettes should be followed.

The government should be stricter and start

doing actions that would prevent this issue

from emerging. Not only the government but

the people should also help by preventing the

bullies and reporting them to higher

authorities.

anyone. It only leads other people to

depression and makes people miserable. We

should not tolerate this any longer and start

being more sensitive and disciplined before

posting anything. The people should also

follow the good etiquettes or the "internet

etiquettes". The government should be strict

and start implementing the laws that are

necessary to this issue especially now that

technology is fast developing. We must help

each other hand in hand by preventing the

bullies and blocking or reporting them to the

higher authorities such as facebook or twitter.

ENGLCOM WC class really taught me new things about writing especially in

academic writing. At first, I thought academic writing is just the same as my regular essay

writing during high school. My understanding of it is that I should not give my own opinions,

comments, suggestions or reactions. Instead, it should only be based on facts. By different

discussions about writing academic essay, I was able to realize the misconceptions I had about

this.

This way of writing is very different with what I have done during my high school

days. I had difficulties in choosing the right choice of words and proper construction of

sentences. I also had a hard time in making my thesis statement. Picking the right topic is also

very crucial. I was able to overcome these by listening to the lectures and discussions. My

professor was also a big help especially in making my thesis statement and outline. She also

helped me in editing and revising my drafts. I followed all the instructions given by the teacher.

From entry and exit essays, I really have improved a lot. In the past, I always mix up

different ideas instead of focusing on one. I became more organized. I observed parallelism

carefully because it is really important. There should not be a first person point of view in

writing academically. I should refrain from using time modifiers. I should also be a critical

thinker and observe different academic writing fallacies.

IV. Reflection Reflect on the improvement you have made after taking up ENGLCOM. Following the guide questions below, write a 500-word essay. Support your essay with specific examples.

1. What misconceptions on academic reading and writing were clarified over the term after taking ENGLCOM? In what way were these clarified?

2. What writing difficulties did you encounter in writing you extended definition and argumentative essays? How did you deal with these challenges?

3. From the entry to exit essays that you have written, how much have you improved in writing? What were the factors that contributed to the observed improvement?

4. How well have you achieved the ENGLCOM and/or portfolio objectives?

I believe that the ENGLCOM portfolio is very important and helpful to me. The

objective of this is to aid me in writing my essays. This really guided and helped my in making

my essay more organized. Because of this, I am more confident in showing my essays to the

world.
