Overall, high satisfaction for the quality of teaching was recorded throughout the meeting. Students are enjoying their studies and have reported very positively on their lecturers. As a Department, we are committed to continue performing at the highest possible level to sustain the environment of cooperation and progress we have established. For all of us, administrative and teaching personnel, this is and will always be a PRIORITY. Dr. Nikolaidis, Head of BAED, comments: “I would like to thank everyone for your participation and for your sig-nificant contribution in our effort to improve our functions in every aspect. Step by step, day by day, we try to identify areas of improvement and we take actions. We are never happy of our performance; we change towards the better and we will continue to change.” He continues: “Our philosophy is simple: With you being at the center, we build the leaders of the future. I want to ensure you for one thing: great effort and genuine care by all lecturers and administrative personnel is there; take advantage of this. We are not doing our job as usual. All of us here we are dedicated to make this school even better and keep it at a top level. Can we improve things? Definitely we can. Can we do more things? The answer to it is also ‘Yes’.” “What we need to do is to stay focused in your personal and professional development; to continue enhancing our communication; to avoid negativity & continue having a positive attitude and goodwill; and to engage more in every curricular or extracurricular activity. We are here to show you ways of learning and improving. You are the planners of your future….we are the facilitators. Nikos Tsokanos, CITY College first-class Bachelor’s graduate, who is currently pursuing an MBA in London, was one of the very few students globally to be accepted to participate in the London School of Economics Strategy & Management Consulting Conference 2011. The conference is one of world’s largest and foremost con-sulting focused student-run forums, providing a unique collaborative platform for students, academics and professionals. The event was sponsored by world-leading companies such as Google, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Deloitte. Prestigious speakers in-cluded Professors from Harvard, LSE, Cambridge, LBS and UCLA universities, as well as professionals from PwC, KPMG, Credit Suisse, Financial Times, etc. A total of 220 delegates were selected from almost 10.000 applica-tions from over 45 countries and more than 120 international institu-tions, based on excellence demonstrated in academic record and professional achievements. The theme of the 2011 conference was “Succeeding in a Volatile World”. Topics spanned across the new realities of the post-crisis world, which are characterized by an in-herent volatility, and elaborated on the emerging opportunities within the global contestable markets. Nikos participated in a case competition led by a leading manage-ment consulting firm. A team of six persons was formed, including McKensie and Ernst&Young professionals. The case was about a global company that wanted to change its ERP-CRM systems. The team was asked to propose cost-efficient solutions to certain deliv-erables that entailed different departments and functions of the or-ganisation. They were also asked to recommend actions and con-duct a full analysis including a detailed cost-benefit analysis, along with product delivery implications. Implementing change in the or-ganisational structure and corporate culture of the company while aligning with its strategic focus towards efficient operations and costs reductions were the key issues to be addressed. Nikos says: “It was a truly exciting and challenging experience! While the other team members specialised in particular case pa-rameters, I was able to see the whole picture and shape the com-pany’s new strategy by effectively combining the different functions in a synergistic way. And that is mainly due to the generic business knowledge I gained while studying at CITY College. Nikos’ presentation was selected among the five best presentations of the competition! He concludes: “I would like to thank CITY Col-lege staff for providing me with an excellent academic background which, coupled with my professional experience, led to this suc-cess.”

CITY Marketing Club (CMC) News

The commencement of the new academic year saw the launch of the upgraded CITY Marketing Club (CMC). CMC is, and will always be, one of the most active clubs of the University, eager to implement in-teresting and challenging projects, work together with the best Greek and foreign companies, develop in-sightful marketing plans, organise seminars, work-shops, charity events, competitions, student parties and other real-life activities. Overall, CMC aims to in-troduce students to the practical aspects of marketing as a profession. The elected representatives of the new CMC board are Menelaos Moustakas (President), Antonis Pampo-ris (Vice President), Emilios Athanasiadis (Treasurer), Lucia Ionescu (Secretary), Maxim Cursunji and Irina Mkrtchyan (Communication Officers). They are always ready to work together with the CMC members, sup-port their ideas and help them realize them.

There are several projects that CMC is currently work-ing on, such as Christmas Bazaar, Marketing Compe-tition, and creation of I-phone and Android applica-tions that will help students to easily access all unit ma-terials, news and events, information, e-mails, etc, directly from their phone.

On 2 November 2011, CMC organised a welcome party at Markiz Bar, joined by more than 100 students, who met their fellow classmates, enjoyed nice Greek music, took pictures and danced.

CMC organised a workshop on “Advertising a Service Abroad”, delivered by Mr. Thomas Skaperdas, Mar-keting Director of Datalabs, on 15 November 2011. The workshop was divided into two parts, with the first part introducing the company, social networks and online advertisement tools, and the second part dis-cussing a real-life case of service advertising abroad. Datalabs aims to expand abroad and the students were asked to choose a country, presenting different marketing strategies that the company could apply there. More than 30 students who attended the event gained valuable knowledge and enjoyed teamwork with specialists.

The initiative "Your Past & Your Future Inside a Book", introduced last year, will become a tradition with Yearbook 2011-12 under preparation.

“If Harvard can do it… CITY College can also do it!” This is the slogan for the CMC marketing competition. CMC members are working in teams to compete for the opportunity to win the competition and maybe be-come known all over the world. Students have to cre-ate a CITY College design, decide on the type of cloth to use and get an affordable production price.

This is just the beginning! All your dreams and striv-ings will come true through CMC.

The Psychology Department of CITY College offers a free-of-charge counsel-ling service to all students or staff who feel they need to explore their feelings and relationships more effectively. The service gives a chance to really look at issues in some depth and gain a more confident perspective. When you first meet your counsellor, she/he will listen carefully to what is troubling you and will ask you some questions. The counsellor will encourage you to express your thoughts and feelings, explore the issues of concern, and discover/clarify ways of living more resourcefully. The work you will do together will be about helping you to find the right solutions for you, rather than telling you what to do. Counselling sessions last for about 50 minutes and the number of sessions offered will vary according to your needs. What happens in the sessions is confidential. Your counsellor will take brief notes of each session, which are securely stored and you can see them if you want to. To book an appointment, please call the reception of the Strategakis building to discuss your options for beginning the counselling process or write to [email protected] or to [email protected]
