What is it?
• A way for you to help your patients
register for an eHealth record
How can patients register for an eHealth record?
Online: www.ehealth.gov.au
Phone: 1800 723 471
In person: at Medicare offices
By mail: filling in a registration form
Assisted registration
Who can offer assisted registration?
• Any healthcare provider organisations
participating in the eHealth record system
• Have a Healthcare Provider Identifier – Organisation (HPI-O)
• Registered to participate in the eHealth record system
Benefits of assisted registration
Helps patients with low computer literacy or limited computer access to get an eHealth record
A way to encourage patient cohorts that would benefit from an eHealth record
Your organisation as a trusted source
You can upload clinical information straight away
Remember
The eHealth record system and participation
in assisted registration is voluntary for both
patients and providers – it’s opt-in
Steps for getting ready to provide assisted registration
Step 1: Understand and comply with PCEHR Rules

Step 2: Meet the prerequisites• Have an HPI-O and be registered to participate in the
eHealth record system• Obtain the Assisted Registration Tool or use software with
assisted registration functionality• Develop and implement an assisted registration policy
Assisted Registration Tool Software Package
Obtained by sending an email request to:
• from your Responsible Officer (RO) or Organisation
Maintenance Officer (OMO)
• include full name, email address, HPI-O certificate number,
organisation name

The registration process
Step 1 Apply
• Patient reads Essential Information, then completes and signs application form• Employee checks form is completed & signed
Step 2
Identify
• Employee confirms patient’s identity
Step 3 Submit
• Employee submits patient details via the Assisted Registration Tool
Step 4 Response
• Employee advises patient of application outcome• If successful the patient will receive their Identity Verification Code by either email or SMS or via the
employee (optional)
Step 5 Complete
• Registration complete, providers can begin to upload documents into the patient’s eHealth record• Employee stores or sends signed application to System Operate following your organisation’s policy
