What Does Dyslexia Testing Online Mean?

• Screening v. full evaluation• Screening = Quick• Full Evaluation?–Through the school district?–Through a private practitioner?

Definition of Screening

“A preliminary procedure, such as a test or examination, to detect the most characteristic sign of signs of a disorder that may require further investigation.”

• Bingo. It’s the first step in the process. And it can be done online.

Is screening inherently bad?

No…But…

When you’re testing for something as complex as problems with reading, spelling and writing, you should err on the side of being thorough…So…Screening is a good first step.

And these days that often means “dyslexia tests online.”


What is a complete evaluation?

Part 1: Observations, Interviews, Checklists

• Finding a diagnostician• “Building the village” for your child• Involvement from school team,

parents, child and other health care professionals• Can’t really be done online


Part 2: Intellectual Assessment (IQ Testing)

• It’s good to have an overall sense of the child’s verbal and nonverbal reasoning abilities• Can’t do this online


Part 3: Academic Achievement

• This part will provide a snapshot of where your child is at that time regarding reading, written language and math

• This could possibly be part of a dyslexia test online


Part 4: Cognitive Processing Testing

• The key component!• Fancy way of saying “How is your brain

wired?”• How does your wiring fit (or match up) with

the environment you’re currently in?• There are some companies doing this online

specifically for language processing and dyslexia (e.g., Lexercise)
