What Does MISD Dyslexia Program Include?• Dyslexia Intervention Program

– The Dyslexia Intervention Program was written by ESC Region 4.

– It is based on Orton-Gillingham and other sources including Scottish

Rite Dyslexia Programs, Project Read, Neuhaus, Lawrence Greene and

Bernice Bragstad’s Study Skills.

– It includes 146 lessons (45-60 minutes a day) designed to be used with

students in grades 2-12.

– Lessons components include alphabet activities, review of the reading

deck, review of the spelling deck, new concept, reading practice,


deck, review of the spelling deck, new concept, reading practice,

handwriting, spelling, review, listening and verbal expression (including

phonological awareness), reading comprehension, writing activities and

study skills.

• Skill Development in phonological awareness, sound-symbol association,

syllabication, orthography, morphology, syntax, reading comprehension and

reading fluency

• Student monitoring from Dyslexia teacher/504 plans

Primary Signs

• Difficulty reading words in isolation (ex.

flashcards/wordlists)

• Difficulty accurately decoding unfamiliar words

• Difficulty with oral reading (slow, inaccurate or

labored) may read a word correctly once then misread
