The designers behind the brand DYRBERG/KERN are the founders of the company Gitte Dyrberg and Henning Kern.

DYRBERG/KERN markets collections of handmade jewellery for men and women, time pieces and eyewear in more than 40 countries. These items are sold by more than 2.000 retailers. DYRBERG/KERN’s passion is to create an international eternal brand of style, image, dreams, and beauty. Our vision is to be leading within accessory design. Our personal design is unique in its combination of the Scandinavian design tradition and international fashion moods. The design reflects personality, innovation, and quality.

All DYRBERG/KERN design is managed from our design studio at our headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark, where a

skilled team of jewellery designers sketch the new collection in order to meet the demands of the personal style of the

DYRBERG/KERN brand and our customers. After a time-consuming design process, where seasonal fashion themes and

seasonal colours are decided and each jewellery style is determined, the production takes place in various work-shops in

Asia, where manufacturers produce the collection according to our design and quality standards.

Our materials are sourced all over the world, from Italy, China or Africa – all depending on the season.

DYRBERG/KERN products are created by hand and undergo many different processes: from casting, polishing and plating

of the metal base, to hand braiding of leather, to cutting, polishing, and insertion of precious stones and brilliant crystals.

Finally the many different elements of one single jewellery piece are assembled. After each process, a specific quality

control is performed.

Each jewellery piece goes through about 40 different processes and as many hands before the magical moment finally

happens – it meets your eye and love hopefully takes over...

COllECtION INtRODuCtION

guN mEtaLGun metal is an ion plating, looking like darkened black metal, matching the fashions of the season.

IP BLackIP black is an IP plating, looking like darkened black metal, matching the fashions of the season.

sHINy sILVERA base of brass is IP plated with stainless steel targets. Until now, palladium was used in electroplating to obtain a silvery color. As stainless steel is harder than palladium, jewelry pieces can be subjected to longer wear and tear.

sHINy gOLDThe plating composition is as follows: a base of brass is IP plated with TiN (titanium nitrate as it is called) which is achieved through the physical reaction of titanium metal and nitrogen, followed by a thin layer of genuine 23 ct. gold.

bASe MeTAL ANd PLATINgSThe base metal of most our jewellery is brass, which is an alloy of copper and zinc. Adding aluminum makes brass stronger and more corrosion resistant. We use brass as our base metal for our jewellery for its unique properties. brass receives the top plating in stainless steel very well. Freshly polished brass is similar to gold in appearance, but becomes more reddish within days of exposure to the elements, which is why a top plating process is required. brass is relatively resistant to tarnishing, and is often used as decoration and for coins. In antiquity, polished brass was often used as a mirror. brass is nickel and lead free and anti-allergenic.

Let us try to explain the great advantages of our technically advanced plating technique. Most of our plating is not done by traditional wet-plating, but by the use of a highly technical IP plating technique which is normally used in the watch industry. Only our antique silver finish is wet-plated.

IP or ion plating in technical terminology is more stable than wet-plating, because it is not so much affected by fluctuation of precious metals. Exposed to oxygen, all non-precious metals (including silver) will tarnish. This is why we plate our jewellery. depending on climatic conditions and how the jewellery piece is being worn, the plating gradually goes off – we call it wear and tear. by using IP instead of traditional wet-plating, it takes much longer before the colored plating wears off and the base metal is visible.

It is hard to give an estimate about the durability – it depends on how and where the jewellery piece is being worn.

One of the numerous advantages IP plating has over wet-plating is its environmental friendliness. IP does not rely on water and contamination through waste water for production process, is avoided or kept at an absolute minimum.

Colour change or tarnishing of the IP plating rarely happens.

All dYRbeRg/KeRN’s products are strictly following both danish and international laws concerning heavy metals, such as Nickel, Lead, Mercury and Cadmium. Further to that all dYRbeRg/KeRN’s suppliers are signing a Code of Conduct, and they are randomly being inspected by our local staff during production.

This for making sure that we only deal with suppliers whom has focus on CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). Why? because we set pride in being responsible, caring and non-selfish about the way we do business.

tHE faNcy HEaRtThe Con Amore theme is made with CRYSTALLIZedTM - Swarovski Elements in a classic heart shape, cut in nine sparkling facets. We keep coming back to the everlasting allure of a romantic heart shape, and for this season we offer seasonal colours as deep red, amethyst purple and deep jet black – and classic crystal, off course. tHE faNcy OVaLTo contrast the smooth rounded glass cabochons of the byzantium theme, we feature a classic facetted fancy oval in four sizes. The theme has been made with CRYSTALLIZedTM - Swarovski Elements ranging from very petite to extreme oversize. The fancy oval stone has been cut in nine sparkling facets to enhance the lustre of each crystal. Apart from the ever classic transparent crystal colour, which resemble the shine of diamonds, we offer seasonal colours as wine red, grey, jet black, blue and sand. (Byzantium)

cRystaLsMade with CRYSTALLIZedTM - Swarovski Elements from the Austrian manufacturer Swarovski in our jewellery. The Xilion Chaton has 14 unique facets, all machine-cut with utmost precision. The cutting technique used to create the Xilion Chaton makes the crystal stand out from any other cut.

Made with CRYSTALLIZedTM - Swarovski Elements is the luxury brand name for the range of precision-cut lead crystal glass chatons we use for our jewellery. In 2004 the company released the Xilion, a new copyrighted cut designed to optimize the brilliance of the diamond cut chaton that we use in abundance. The crystals are either crystal clear, solid coloured, or effect coated to imitate natural or recreate never before seen stones.

NATURAL STONeScaRNELIaNThe Con Amore Theme features the charming burned red stone Carnelian. This clear-to-translucent reddish-brown variety of chalcedony has been used and treasured in centuries.Carnelian was recovered from bronze Age Minoan layers at The Knossos Palace on Crete in a form that dem-onstrated its use in decorative arts; this use dates to approximately 1800 bC. Carnelian was used widely during Roman times to make engraved gems for signet rings. The word carnelian is derived from the Latin word caro, carnis meaning flesh, in reference to the flesh color sometimes exhibited. (Con Amore)

ENamEL INLaysThis season we offer a broad spectre of enamel styles hand decorated with deep jewel colours to match the stones and crystals chosen for the PANORAMA collection. We love the high gloss finish of enamel, complementing the jewellery so very well. enamel work is an old and well known technique: glass powder is applied to a metal surface and then heated to a temperature high enough to melt the powder. It is smooth, hard and can assume long lasting colours. Its disadvantages are its tendency to crack when bent. As a modern substitute, we use enamel paint, hand painted directly on the metal item and then dried to an extremely hard, glossy finish, more durable than traditional glass enamel work. In this technique, we create hoop earrings, bangles, pendants and rings. This season take a closer look at our enamel styles in deep black, jeans blue, burgundy wine, dark brown, green, and purple colours.

LEatHERWe love the funky combination of stone, metal and leather and this season is no exception. We cut, drape, braid and stitch soft Italian calf or lamb leather into innovative and interesting jewellery pieces such as bracelets, bangles and neck pieces. Our leather qualities live up to the latest eU standards as for the contents of cadmium, mercury, lead and nickel. This season we stick to classic colours such as deep black, metallic greys and browns, as well as wine red, deep red, deep purple, midnight blue, saffron yellow and dark racing green.

PEaRLsAmong our Joker styles we feature man-made pearls in the two styles Ugolina and Ugolina/b and gogo earring with a close resemblance to natural pearls. A bead with an acrylic resin core has been coated with a special paste, made out of natural mother-of-pearl for their iridescence. This coating process is repeated several times until a multitude of fine layers is formed over the core to build up the density and color uniformity. The pearls are then coloured in this seasons fashion colours and polished by hand to remove imperfections – that’s why our pearls are always perfectly matched and round-shaped.

syNtHEtIc REsINSynthetic resins are materials with properties similar to natural resins: a lightweight, flexible substance, extremely strong and durable, created by man and designed with industrial purposes in mind.

Polyester resin is known as a thermosetting plastic, which implies that the plastic sets at very high temperatures. Any kind of luster, shine, surface and hardness is available, making polyester resin the perfect jewellery material, which may be cut, molded or treated, as any other natural material.

gLassWhen Mother Nature can’t seem to supply us with what we are looking for, we turn to man made materials. Real glass jewellery treasures are found in the themes of byzantium, Con Amore and our line of Joker styles. Handmade glass beads and inlays are created by artists using glass rods or sheets of glass. We fuse the glass using extreme temperatures. As the heat rises above 1200 degrees Fahrenheit, the glass softens and flows like honey. In between magic happens. glass is blown, casted, and cut to match the expression we aim for. Our glass treasures are developed especially for dYRbeRg/KeRN and live up to the latest eU standards as for the contents of cadmium, mercury, lead and nickel. This season enjoy oval or rounded glass stone cabochons in colours such as emerald green, Amethyst purple, Jet black and golden Topaz. (Byzantium) and dusty black. (Con Amore)
