New Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Dynamics AX

Dynamics 365 combines CRM and ERP software into one unified package. This

is made up of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, Dynamics AX for Operations

and the recent Microsoft acquisitions for field service management and project

management.

Instead of disparate systems these are now aligned on one business application

platform so that companies and users can pick and choose which apps (or

‘modules’) they need.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online users will already recognise most of the

apps such as Sales or Customer Service within Dynamics 365 but now with the

addition of an Operations module (formerly AX7) and recent acquisitions, such

as Field Service.

If users only need to have full access to one app or ‘module’ within Dynamics 365 then an

App Licence is the most suitable and cost effective option. This gives full use of the named

app, however, if they need to have write access for another app then a Plan can be more

cost effective option.

Plan Licences

If a user needs to have full read/write access to multiple apps then a Plan is the most cost

effective route to take. With a Plan you gain access to the full CRM suite of apps, which is

ideal for power users or those than need to access multiple business apps in their role.

There are two plans available:

Plan 1

Provides all CRM functionality, which is: Sales, Customer Service, Field Service, Project

Service & Marketing (coming soon)

Plan 2

Provides CRM and Operations functionality, which is all of the above plus Operations

Licensing: Devices

You can now also licence devices so that any individual can use Dynamics 365 on the

licensed device. This can be a very cost effective licensing method, for example for

organisations that have shift workers or those in Retail. Rather then having to licence

each user you can simply licence devices and then anyone can use these.

Dynamics 365 provides tiered pricing to give discounted prices based on the number of

seats being purchased. This only applies to Plan 1 and Team Member licenses and not to

App licenses. Plan 2 licenses do not apply but are counted toward Plan 1 totals.

is not a simple mapping exercise.

These mappings are suggestions

from Microsoft but we recommend

discussing this with your CRM

partner to ensure that you

transition to the most cost effective

What Next?

Check your renewal date: Your renewal date will determine when you can

transition. CRM Online customers (via CSP) can auto-renew to their existing

subscription until 1st Feb 2017.

Audit your user base: Gather a clear list of the number of users you have , the

different breakdown of licenses and assess system usage to see if each user is

fully using their access level.

Assess your needs: Assess what access each user or team needs. Some team

members may find that a Team Member licence is enough access and could

reduce licensing costs.

Contact your CRM partner: Your CRM partner will have a clearer knowledge

of the new Dynamics 365 licensing and pricing. Contact them so that you can

work together to assess your transition path.

Think of the tiers: If you’re close to the next Tier then consider additional

seats to take advantage of the lower tiered pricing.

Understand your licensing program: Dynamics 365 is not available Open

licensing and you must transition to a new licensing channel. Contact your

CRM partner to discuss options.
