Superior Technologies “Just Add Water” Technology
This breakthrough concept means that you do nothave to prepare eluent or regenerant solutions to doIC — you just add water.
The heart of “Just Add Water” is the combination of membrane based technologyand electrolysis. Using the EG40 EluentGenerator, eluent is created continuously,on-line, from water. In the SRS-ULTRA®,regenerant ions are produced fromrecycled eluent.
“Just Add Water” technology pro-vides IC results that are fast, easy, andpowerful. This technology is just oneexample of how Dionex continues to improve the field of ion analysis.
Suppressor Technology
Suppressors work by reducing the conductivity of the eluent, while enhancing the conductivity of theanalytes. This dramatically improves sensitivity, stabilityand dynamic range for anions and cations.
Dionex was the first company to introduce IC instrumentation utilizing chemical suppression; that was25 years ago. Since then, we have continued to lead theindustry in innovative suppression technology. Our firstsuppressors were made from ion exchange resins usedas a packed bed. Packed bed suppression allowed iso-cratic separations for samples with simple matrices. By
the mid 80’s IC application demands inspired the inven-tion of gradient capable, high capacity, continuously
regenerated, MicroMembrane® Suppressors for usewith high capacity columns. External regen-
erant pumps were eliminated by usingAutoRegen® devices to improve reliabili-
ty. In the early 1990’s, suppression wasmade even more powerful with a
technical breakthrough; the Self-Regenerating Suppressor® (SRS).The SRS was the first generation ofcontinuous, electrically regenerated
membrane-based suppressors, thatallowed demanding gradient and
high capacity separations. SRS technology madeIC easier because operation without external regenerantsolutions or pumps was now possible.
Today, Dionex has taken suppressor technology a step further, by improving sensitivity and reliabilitywith SRS-ULTRA suppressors. Many benchmarks in sup-pression technology have been set by Dionex over the last20 years, and you can be assured we will continue todevelop new suppression products and technologies inthe years to come.

limits for gradient and isocratic separations.
EG40 Eluent Generator
The EG40 makes IC easier than ever by generatinghigh-purity IC eluents on-line using electrolysis ofdeionized water. On-line eluent generation for IC eliminates the eluent contaminants that cause gradientbaseline shifts, resulting in higher sensitivity, improvedresolution and better peak integration. The EG40 delivers outstanding eluent reproducibility, which provides excellent retention time stability. There are no chemicals to handle or reagents to prepare. The entire process is automated and uses only water.
Column Technology
Dionex offers a wide range of polymeric IC columnsfor various modes of separation including ion exchange, ion exclusion, ion pairing, and reversed phase. By using Dionex columns for your IC work, you are benefiting from many years of expertise in polymericresin technology and IC application experience.
All resins and columns are developed and producedby Dionex. Dionex IC columns are constructed from non-metallic, non-corrosive PEEK components to eliminate contamination due to metal corrosion. A widerange of low, medium, and high capacity columnsdesigned for fast analysis times or optimum resolutionof complex samples are available.
Hydroxide eluents produced by the EG40are free of carbonate interferences, and as a result baseline shift is eliminatedallowing for enhanced resolution and higher sensitivity.

Expand your analytical capabilities by using multipledetectors configured on a single DX-500 IC system.Dionex detectors are designed with user friendly servicediagnostics and on-screen directions for easy cell calibration. All of our detectors provide digital signals and are autoranging when used with thePeakNet Chromatography Workstation. The modulardesign of the DX-500 IC allows for one or more of thefollowing detectors to be configured on a system.
CD20 Conductivity Detector
Detection techniques like colorimetry, nonsuppressedconductivity, and UV-Vis absorbance usually cannotobtain the low detection limits and signal-to-noise performance that can be achieved using the DX-500 ICsystem with suppressed conductivity detection. TheCD20 is a microprocessor-driven precision conductivitydetector. Digital autoranging and temperature com-pensation combined with built-in control for the SRS Self-Regenerating Suppressors provide unsurpassed signal-to-noise, stability, linearity, and dynamic range.
ED40 Electrochemical Detector
The ED40 is our most powerful and versatile detector, offering three modes of electrochemical detection. It provides the power of suppressed conductivity detection that is offered by the CD20, as well as two forms of electrochemical detection; dc amperometry and integrated amperometry.
Advanced Detection Capabilities
Suppressed conductivity detection with the CD20 can determine tracelevel anions in the presence of higher level anions in the same run.

Dionex offers two chromatographic pumps for the DX-500 IC system. Our high performance gradientpump, the GP50, is a sophisticated eluent delivery system designed to pump mixtures of up to four mobile phase components, and either perform isocratically, or deliver linear or exponential gradients.Accurate proportioning and precise eluent deliveryensure consistent results—day in and day out. The IP25 isocratic pump is used exclusively for isocratic eluent delivery.
Superior Flow Control
Both the GP50 and IP25 have a Dual Digital SignalProcessor (DSP) control to provide exceptional flow rateaccuracy for optimal run-to-run reproducibility and areaprecision. DSP ensures superior flow stability over awide range of backpressures.
Precise Eluent Proportioning
The GP50 gradient pump provides precise eluent proportioning regardless of system back pressure or solvent viscosity. Low void volumes result in sharp gradients with minimal delays.
Simple Maintenance and Calibration
Built-in user-service menus with on-screen directionsmake pump calibration simple. The GP50 and IP25pumps are designed with an easy access housing mechanism that slides out for routine maintenance.
High Performance Pumps
The GP50 and IP25 pumps provide exceptional flow control for run-to-run reproducibility (0.1% standard bore, 0.2% microbore).
The GP50 provides low void volumes which result in sharp and precisegradients as demonstrated by these 1% steps.

Rugged PEEK Design
Dionex continues to improve pump design to ensure
durability for challenging laboratory applications.
For long life and minimal maintenance, the GP50
and IP25 pumps are constructed of rugged PEEK
components. The PEEK-based flow paths and
mechanical components of the GP50 and IP25 are
chemically inert. PEEK flow paths guarantee that the
metal contamination commonly found when using
stainless steel pumps is eliminated.
Extend Your IC Capabilities with Additional Options
Vacuum Degas Option
The GP50 and IP25 pumps feature a built-in vacuum
degas option to provide in-line degassing for optimum
reproducibility, low backgrounds, and protection of
solvents from contamination.
Microbore or Standard Bore Configurations
To optimize trace analysis and amino acid
applications, the GP50 and IP25 pumps are offered
in microbore configurations. Benefits of the microbore
configuration include increased sensitivity, lower
detection limits, and reduced eluent consumption.
Eluents like dilute sulfuric acid and sodiumhydroxide cannot corrode pump componentsand tubing due to chemically inert, PEEK-based flow paths.

continuous unattended operation. With PeakNet,
the entire chromatography system—from sample
dilution to eluent generation—can be controlled from
one software package.
