From the Principal’s Desk… Dear Eisenhower Families, As the weather starts to get more frigid and messier (I

keep expecting that snow every morning when I wake

up!), I ask that ALL car drop offs/pickups please pull up

to the end of the sidewalk as close to the vehicle in front of you as possible.

PLEASE do not stop in front of the doors or exactly at the point where your

child is standing. It causes a delay in the line and adds extra frostbite to

the principal and her teachers directing children and traffic. Please, please,

move as quickly and as safely as possible and do not get out of your car. Your heated vehicle is a whole lot warmer than all of us standing outside in

the wind – if you love your teachers and principal, please help us get out of

the cold as quickly as possible! ☺ Also, if you choose to come early and have

children wait in your car in the morning before the doors open at 8:45 a.m.

(which is five minutes earlier than the official start), PLEASE pull up all the

way to the end of the sidewalk (following Mr. Goodwin’s directions) to fit as

many cars as possible and avoid a traffic jam on Main Street. Your

cooperation with this is very much appreciated. Thank you for helping us

keep everyone safe while moving the traffic efficiently during these

upcoming harsh weather days.

We are now officially in the second half of the second quarter –

almost halfway through the school year! I encourage all parents to

check out your child’s grades and progress on our Parent Access site. There

should never be any “surprises” in terms of grades and assignments as all of

that information is available to you 24/7. We do still honor our interim

schedule to remind parents to be sure and take a look at this time. We are

definitely long past the review stage of the school year and into the serious

grade level assignments and assessments. When it gets harder, it is more

important than ever that all of us be extra vigilant that goals and

benchmarks are being met on time. The teachers and I truly appreciate your

support as we strive for a successful, growth filled year for each and every

student.

It’s not too late to support our Angel Tree Project! We are still in need of

Strack and Van Til gift cards for groceries. This year we are helping 14

Eisenhower families, which include 46 of our children. As good as we appear

to have it in CP, the economy is still somewhat precarious. Any help you are

able to provide (particularly donations) is greatly appreciated. Thank you,

too, for all of the “Angel” gifts being purchased from our Angel Tree. We

could not accomplish our goal without the help of our Eisenhower family! The

Angel Tree gifts are due by Monday, December 11th. Gifts do not have to be

wrapped, but if you want to wrap them, ☺ please include a post-it note or the

angel with the name of the gift on the outside of the box. Mrs. Dusseau tells

me that monetary donations or Strack gift cards are our greatest need at

this point. Thank you so much for your generosity.

This week our school community recognized our November

“Character Award” winners. The following students were

recognized by their teachers for their “generosity” to others at

Eisenhower School: Londyn, Madisyn, Carter, Blake, Lucas, Anthony, Danny,

students!

A special “thank you” to Mrs. Thiel and her crew of moms who

worked so hard to get ready for Santa’s Secret Shop next week.

It is a yearlong shopping endeavor ending with an intense week of

shopping and wrapping! We could not do this for the kids, who

absolutely LOVE it, without our dedicated Ike moms. Your efforts

are very much appreciated! There is still time to volunteer to be a

personal shopper and/or wrap presents!

SANTA’S SECRET SHOP It’s hard to believe that Christmas is right around the corner. Santa’s Secret Shop will be open for business Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, December 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th, throughout the school day for students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. Family shopping hours will be available on Thursday, December 7th after school until 5:00pm and will reopen at 6:00pm for those families attending the choir concert that evening. Parents…please take advantage of this time to get those much needed stocking stuffers or extra gifts. We are in need of volunteers to help the children shop as well as wrap their gifts. STAFF APPRECIATION LUNCHEON ‘Tis the season to be jolly!!! It is hard to believe that the holidays are quickly approaching! Our

Eisenhower Staff has been working like little elves keeping our kids smart, happy, and well cared for! In an effort to show our thanks, we will be hosting a “STAFF APPRECIATION LUNCHEON” on Friday, December 8th, and we need your help to make this event a success!! Please consider helping out with one of the following: Contribute $5.00 to Cover the Expenses of the Luncheon: If you can help with a monetary donation, please send the money in an envelope labeled “luncheon” with your name on it by Wednesday, December 6th, and have your child turn it into their teacher. Send in our Favorite Dessert: Our teachers LOVE desserts and if you have one that you just know they will enjoy, please send it in! We just ask that you include your name and the name of the dessert (in case they want the recipe, if you are willing to share!). Also, please send it in on a disposable serving plate! IKE WINTERFEST CONCERT The fourth grade students, along with the Eisenhower Choir and Handbell Choir, invite you to attend Ike's annual "Winterfest" concert at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 7th! (Doors will open at 6:15 p.m.) Choir and Handbell Choir members will wear their blue polos with black on the bottom; all remaining fourth grade students should dress nicely. MATH BOWL TRYOUTS Math Bowl Try-outs will be on Tuesday, December 12th at 8:10am in the cafeteria. All fourth and fifth graders are welcome to try out. If they can’t make it to the morning tryout, they can tryout at recess. Mrs. Menear and Mrs. Fritz, Math Bowl Coaches ��

NEWS FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE Just a reminder of the Crown Point School Corporation medication policy. All medicine, even over the counter such as Tylenol and Ibuprofen, require an order from a physician or nurse practitioner to be given out

by the school nurse. Parents or guardians are allowed to come in and give medication at any time to a student as needed. Students will also be going out at recess all winter if the temperature is above 15 degrees. Please feel free to send in boots and snow pants with your

child. A doctor’s note is also required for medical reasons to keep a child indoors. If a child does not feel well enough to be outside for a short recess period, they most likely aren’t feeling well enough to be in

NEHS - COAT DONATIONS National Elementary Honor Society is sponsoring a Coat Drive which runs through Monday, December 11th. We are taking gently used coat donations for the winter and giving them to the needy. One coat

NATIONAL ELEMENTARY HONOR SOCIETY “HAT DAY” National Elementary Honor Society “Hat Day” is coming to Eisenhower Elementary School on Friday, December 8th. For $1.00 you can wear your favorite baseball cap, Mickey Mouse ears, Cowboy hat, Cubs hat, Fedora, etc. Proceeds will go toward purchasing gifts for our Angel Tree! STUDENT COUNCIL - ANGEL TREE Student Council is sponsoring an Angel Tree for the holiday season. We help the families of Eisenhower that need our assistance. We have an Angel tree in the front by the office that will only have mainly wishes

for toys. We would like for each child to receive at least one toy. Please stop by to get an angel or have your child take one. After you have bought the toy, please return it to the office. You can either wrap it and attach the angel from the tree or send it in and Student

Council will wrap the gift. All angels and donations must be returned to school by Monday, December 11th. We are also accepting gift cards for the grocery store. In addition, we would like to purchase clothes for

each child, which will be done a little differently. We are asking for a $3.00 to $5.00 donation from each child, which is not mandatory. If you can afford more of a donation, that’s wonderful. As a staff, we decided that we would collect money for the clothes so that no child will

know what items of clothing were donated. This is the only way to ensure that the families we help will remain unknown. Please send the money in an envelope earmarked “Angel Tree.” Student Council thanks

NEWS FROM OUR HOME/SCHOOL FACILITATOR After separation or divorce, parenting can be more challenging. There

are things you can do and say to make this adjustment easier for your child. � My feelings for Mom/Dad may have changed, but I still love you. � You didn’t do anything to cause us to separate or divorce. It’s not

your fault. � It’s normal for you to have a variety of feelings about this and I

want to know how you are feeling.
