Overview

This is release of the Bluetooth 3.0 baseline that supports the Bluetooth 3.0 +HS standard with both

Atheros AR301x Bluetooth hardware and various Atheros 802.11 hardware solutions. The main

components of this release are the Bluetooth suit and WLAN. Supported hardware platforms and

Microsoft operating system versions are detailed in this document, as well as specific profiles and

features of the software package.

If you have any questions or feedback concerning the software packages, please contact your local

Atheros sales representative or field applications engineer.

1 Release package

1.1 Hardware support

This release supports various combinations of Atheros Bluetooth and WLAN devices. Non-Atheros

devices are not supported.

The release provides combo installer option to install WLAN and Bluetooth software.

Setup.exe -> Combo installer

2 Software This release includes WLAN drivers and Windows8 driver version of the Bluetooth Suite

2.1 WLAN Driver

The driver package supports the Windows 8 operating system, in both 32 and 64 bit modes. Released

versions below:

Win8 : RNWF10.0.0.216

2.1.1 WLAN Features

Features supported by this release are:

1) BT 3.0 Bluetooth 3.0+HS architecture supports the use of WLAN as the alternate MAC/PHY (AMP) to be

used for a faster Bluetooth data exchange.

This driver release supports the use of WLAN AMP for high speed data transfers initiated by host

Bluetooth stack. The following features are supported in this regard:

Interface with Bluetooth Stack The driver implements the Bluetooth interface to communicate and exchange data with their

Bluetooth AMP Manager filter driver.

802.11 PAL Driver implements the Bluetooth 3.0+HS standard defined 802.11 Protocol Adaptation Layer

which communicates with a Bluetooth host stack through the standard Host Controller Interface

(HCI) commands.

2) WLAN supported features:

32-bit and 64-bit Windows OS support.

2.1.2 Localization

This release software is localized to support the below 32 languages. It includes

2.1.2.2 User guides in CHM, CAB and MAML format

User help content in all supported formats is available in all 32 languages for XP and Vista OS.

Localization of help content for Window 7 will be supported in subsequent drop. Only the English

version of the help files for Windows 8 is available in this drop.

*The following languages are not supported by InstallShield installer screens that appear during installation. For

these languages, installer screens will display messages in English only. However the software is installed

2.2 Bluetooth Software

It includes below software components for Bluetooth features.

Windows 8: v.8.0.0.214

2.2.1 Bluetooth v2.1 Support

This release supports all mandatory and optional features specific to the Bluetooth v2.1 standard.

2.2.2 Profiles

This release supports the Bluetooth profiles outlined in Table 1. All the profiles listed in the table

below are supported with Bluetooth v2.1. Profiles and roles highlighted in italics are also support BT

3.0 +HS connections with compatible devices.

2.2.3 Bluetooth 3.0 Support

This release supports the following protocols and operational modes:

Partial OBEX/L2CAP support (OBEX data transfer through L2CAP vs. RFCOMM)

2.2.5 Limitations

OPP transferring will disconnect if the file name length is larger than Windows Max Size (256 units).

The system will fail to enter S3/S4 modes during an active HCRP printing session.

Bluetooth settings dialog cannot be opened if the BT device is disabled and then re-enabled while the BIP file selection window is open

If the S3 state is entered while a FAX transfer is occurring , the FAX local server will display incorrect status after resuming from S3

2.2.6 Localization

This release software is localized to support the below 32 languages. It includes

Fixed: 1. WIN7 BSOD 0xD1 while stress S4. 2. BT Preload multi-users issue. 3. DW1703 and DW1901's BT property has some cut off appear on FRN language. 4. The BT mouse can be use five second after resume S3/S4 under Airplane mode. 5. It will pop up message after install BT driver then reboot system. 6. FTP sometimes disconnects w/o connection request. 7. Two BT icons appear when the second time turn on airplane mode with BT headset attached. 8. HID mouse reconnect time takes too long. 9. Remove all QCA LE stuff from help file. 10. DW1702 cannot disable by Metro GUI. 11. Bluetooth cannot enable when using Fn+F2 turn off/on Bluetooth HW.



Fixed: 1. Add QCA LE FindMe profile. 2. Improved the Metro GUI BT radio on/off mechanism. 3. Play music have noise with BT headphone. 4. Japanese OS installer issues. 5. BT cannot pop out dialog (Bluetooth Operations) automatically when paired BT deivc. 6. The file name begin with "..." can't be browsed. 7. OPP received files are sometimes lost. 8. BT setting about Shared Folder and "High speed didn't translate totally.


Fixed: 1. Improved the Metro GUI airplane mode/BT switch issues. 2. OS will always choose QCA driver instead of MSFT native one by using accurate MFG ID in

inf.

3. BT video source window cant be automatically stopped after pressing VDP Disconnect button.

4. The help file explains how to use bluetooth is not correct. 5. File can not be received via Bluetooth on Metro mode. 6. Cannot enable Airplane mode (With Audio + HID connection). 7. Bluetooth can`t be turn-off when BT mouse + BT headset are connected. 8. Pop up "System Setting Change" after restart the unit and disable BT in DM. 9. BT switch status incorrect. 10. The Bluetooth icon on task bar disappear after turn on then turn off Airplane mode. 11. No BT icon in computer UI when pair two platform by BT. 12. Metro mode should not switch to Desktop mode automatically after system reboot. 13. Help file improvement (English part only). 14. Power option mode will be changed to "balance" after the BT A2DP is disconnected. 15. IOT: Object push profile will not be enable on "Bluetooth Services" when pair our BT device

with BCM4330.
