B decays/motivation

B decays probe flavor dynamics of SM (or extensions)

an abundance of information available from B-factoriesand Tevatron (b → sγ, b → sl+l−, Bs → µ+µ−, . . . )

the weak dynamics folded with the QCD effectsto use B → MM decays: needs a reliable calculation+ realistic estimate of errors

CharmlessB decays

B decays into two light mesons: B → ππ,B → πK, . . .

the outgoing mesons look like 2 energetic jets withp2 ∼ ΛQCD

Connection to form factors

ζBM , ζBMJ are related to B → M form factors

at LO in αS(mb) for decays into pseudoscalars

fBP+ (0) = ζBP + ζBP

J

fBP+ (0) + fBP

− (0) = 2ζBPJ

at higher orders in αS(mb) more complicated hardkernels

these nonperturbative inputs could beobtained from lattice (+ exp. data on B → πlν)from sum rulesin our analysis will be fit from B → PP data

Counting of parameters

B → ππ: 4 real parameters ζBπ(J) , Aππ

B → πη(′): 14 new parameters ζBηq,s

beyond B → ππ vs. 19 observables (4 measured)

similarly B → πK vs. B → Kη(′)

at present in the analysis of isosinglets SU(3) needs tobe used (this can be relaxed with more data)

in the SU(3) limit 14 real parameters: ζ, ζJ , Acc and the"gluonic" ζg, ζJg, Accg, 4 × ζ3,i (these only for isosinglets)

compare with 18 complex reduced matrix elements inmost general SU(3) decomposition

Comments about diagrammatic approach

the color suppression is lifted in SCET

in "diagrammatic" SU(3) fits dynamical assump.:"annihilation-like" ampl. neglected for η, η′ final states

4 additional reduced matrix elements for isosinglets, only one (s) taken nonzeroin SCET counting all 4 LO in 1/mb: keeping only scorresponds to ζ(J)g ≪ ζ(J) limit not to mb → ∞ limit

Further predictions

we give predictions for observables in all B → η(′)η(′),B → πη(′)

with observables measured so far the combinationζg − ζJg poorly constrained

predictions for B0 → π0η(′) and B0 → η(′)η(′) fairlyuncertain

measurements in some of these modes will greatlyimprove on the knowledge of SCET parameters

Conclusions

the LO SCET analysis has been extended to decayswith η, η′

πK and Sη′KS ,π0KS"puzzles" only at ∼ 1σ level

enhancement of Br(η′K) is naturally explained in SCET

Gluonic contributions

ζ(J)g connected to B → η(′) semileptonic form factors,not known

ζ3(g), Accg not known from anywhere else

in QCD factorization (Beneke, Neubert):

at LO in αS(√

Λmb): ζBM3 (u) = ζ3/(uu), ζBM

3g const.

ζg, ζ3 varied in some (reasonable) range, ζJg, ζ3g setto zero

in SCET analysis (Williamson, JZ):SU(3) used, ζ(J)g, Accg determined from data (fit)

ζ3 omitted, even so ζ(J)g poorly determ., 2 solutions

measuring Br, ACP for more modes with η, η′ in the finalstate can help a lot!

Relation to diagrammatic approach II

there are 4 additional reduced matrix elements in SU(3)decomposition

usually in diagrammatic approach only ps = 3s wastaken to be nonzero

in SCET counting all 4 are of LO in 1/mb

ts, cs are "gluonic" tree and color suppressedamplitudes (depend on ζg, ζJg)ps ∝ VcbV

cdAccg + F (ζ(J), ζ(J)g)

s0 enters only B(s) → η0η0 decays

keeping only ps corresponds to ζ(J)g ≪ ζ(J) limit not tomb → ∞ limit

Other tests inB → Kπ

similarly the Lipkin sum rule

∆P =2∆Γ(B− → K−π0) − ∆Γ(B− → K0π−)

that does no depend on Acc

∆P = 0 in the limit of exact isospin and no EWP

for EWP6= 0 still ∆P = 0 at LO in 1/mB and αS(mb)
