Introduction

After more than a century of French rule, Algaria achievedindependenea On July 3rd 1962. For the period of the French occupationand also for the posr-colonial period the basic ,ource material onAlgeria remains in the French language. Nevertheless, the heroic effortsof the Algarian people in their struggle for independence aroused theinterest of the English speaking world, in particular Britain, U.S.A. andCanada - an interest which has continued to grow since independence as areault of closer economic and political links. Consequently, from thebeginning of tha var of indapendence in 19S4, a considerable nueber of booksand articles on Algeria in the English language hava appaared.

The preaent work repreaents a first attempt to compila a bibliographyof aource material on Algeria published in the English language since1954. It is hoped that this bibliography will be of use not only tostudents and resaarch workers, but alao to other persons interested inAlgeria.

The bibliography includes both periodical articles and books, andi. organized into six partl according to subject. Within each part, books and artie las are listed separately and arranged by author inalphabetical sequence. No bibl~ography is ever complete, and I apologiseif, inadvertently, certain sources which should have been included havebeen omittad.
