What is ICELT ? It is an In-service Certificate English Language
Teaching Course offered by Cambridge ESOL, UK
Who is ICELT for ? It is for teachers who are teaching, or aspiring to
teach English to:
1) Primary 2) Secondary
3) Tertiary students 4) Adult learners
ICELT is an important stepping stone in your career as a
teacher. It is awarded by Cambridge ESOL, a part of the
Cambridge University, UK . ICELT is internationally
recognized, highly respected and a benchmark for
quality teacher training. Whatever your context ICELT
will enhance your confidence and help you develop
professionally as a teacher and progress in your career.
ICELT can help you enhance your knowledge and ability
to reflect on and improve your teaching/learning
practices. It will also help enhance your own English

The main aim of ICELT is to develop your
knowledge and skills in the following areas:
Language awareness & language use in the
classroom
Planning teaching & teaching Methods
for the classroom
Assessment and evaluation
ICELT will give you insight into the principles of
effective teaching and a range of skills for teaching
English in your teaching context. You will:
Gain hands-on teaching practice.
Be exposed to a minimum of 150 face-to-face
contact hours i.e. input sessions, supervised
lesson planning, observation of your own and
peers’ teaching and feedback, observation of
teaching by experienced teachers, & consultation
with tutors.
Complete written assignments and language tasks.
Be assessed on four of your lessons by your course tutors.
Have a Cambridge University moderator visit the
course to moderate your work.

It is divided into two phases:
Phase l: Input face to face training sessions: July
14-31, 2017 at SPELT House.
Phase ll: Practical field work:
written / practical assignments: Aug’ 17 - May’ 18.
Cambridge University examination: May 2018.
Will I have to take off from work to do ICELT?
No, you are required to be teaching while doing this course.
Is the ICELT candidate expected to attend classes at SPELT for both
Phase I & II?
Candidates must attend face to face classes at SPELT from
8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m, six days a week during Phase 1, only.
(Well Equipped and Air Conditioned training hall)
What does phase II / practical field work entail?
Practical field work comprises of:
4 Class Observations by approved Cambridge University Tutors.
4 Peer Class Observations.
4 Tutor Class Observations.
Written tasks and assignments related to
teaching practice.

Rehmat Ebrahim has been associated
with learning and development for the last
twenty years. She is a certified online
teacher trainer from London University
School of Lifelong Learning. Ms. Ebrahim
holds a Masters in Teaching English as a
Foreign Language (MA TEFL) and an MA
in General History. She has also completed
a number of management training courses including Training
of Trainers and is an RSA-COTE and ICELT tutor at
SPELT.
What is the total cost of the course?
Total course fee Rs 87,000/-
This sum can be paid in three installments:
Rs 45,000/-Down / First payment to
be made before June 1st, 2017.
Rs 22,000/- Second installment by
August 10, 2017
Rs 20,000/- Third installment by
November 10, 2017

Dr. Bushra Ahmed Khurram teaches applied linguistics at the Department of English, University of Karachi. She has worked for Aga Khan University-Institute for Educational Development as a researcher; curriculum developer as well as for British Council and Higher Education Commission Pakistan as a
course developer. Dr. Bushra has also worked as an ELT teacher trainer at a national and international institution She has published two books and over 60 articles and papers.
Huma M Thaver,, is a seasoned and resilient educationist with over 20 years of teaching, teacher training and material development experience. Beside Masters in Applied Linguistics and Education from Karachi University and a post graduate certification in critical thinking in EFL from Oregon University, she is an M Phil Schol-
ar. She has been the course tutor for ICELT, ETTE, TKT and other English ELT courses from platforms, such as the British Council, SPELT, US Embassy, BSS, SIE, etc. As a Life Member of SPELT, she has been the Conference, Workshop Coordinator and is now the SPELT Journal Coordinator. Currently Huma Thaver is the Principal A Level, at Dawood Public School and the Course Director of the ICELT course.
Khalida Sa’adat is a veteran

has a Masters in English from
Government College Lahore and has
retired as Professor of English from St. Joseph College
Karachi. She is the president of Nishan-e- Haider
Alma Mater, Karachi. She is also the Principal of the
Aneesa Mumtaz with a Master’s degree in
English and an M. Ed. in Counselling,
Testing and Evaluation from Karachi
University, and Dip. Ed in TEFL from
Nottingham University, U.K, has been the
Course tutor of COTE and ICELT since their
inception. She has written textbooks
for English from the Sindh Textbook Board. A teacher
trainer by profession, Aneesa Mumtaz is the retired
Principal of St. Patrick's College of Education,
Karachi. She works as freelance English Language
consultant and teacher trainer. She is the Ex Principal of
Prof. Zakia Sarwar has 40 years’
experience of teaching language and
literature. She is a teacher educator,
materials’ writer and has done classroom
research on suitable materials and
strategies for EFL learners for over two
decades. She is a SPELT founder
member and has been associated with
the SPELT Newsletter/ Journal since its inception. She
has a number of national and internation-
al conference presentations and publications to her cred-
