GAP 1605
Mode of Operation
The GAP 1605 is a portableprogramming unit used for
reading or programmingchannel code(s) in the seriesof Dupline products.
The external switch turnsthe power on/off.When the battery is installedand the power is on, theGAP 1605 is ready for use.Connect the cable betweenthe programming unit and aDupline module type G..
5 keys provide the means ofoperating the GAP 1605:two keys are used for read-ing and programming, twokeys for changing Groupsand Channels and one keyfor selecting the desiredInput/Output.
The current coding is dis-played by 4 x 8 LEDs. Thetop row of LEDs displays theselected input or output. The two middle rows displaythe current channel group, while the bottom row dis-plays the current channelcode.
In/Out - Key
This key is used to scrollthrough the I/O's of a mod-
ule. If a new module is con-nected or if consecutivechannel codes are allocatedto the I/O's, pressing the In/Out key has no effectsince all Dupline modulesare preprogrammed to theirphysical number of inputs/outputs. This key is alsoused to switch betweenconsecutive and individualcoding of the I/O 's. Tochange the mode, keep In/Out pressed for morethan 2 seconds.
Group - Key
Used to select the Groupaddress within the range Ato P. The Group LED willshift one position right foreach key activation.
Channel - Key
Used to select the chan-nel(s) within the group. TheChannel LED will shift rightone, two or four positions, depending on the number ofinputs/outputs. If consecu-tive channels are selected, then pressing the Channel key will have no effect.
Read / On - Key
Used to turn on the GAP1605 and to read the chan-nel codes of the connectedmodule. When the reading iscompleted, the display willshow the channel code ofthe module: either 1, 2, 4 or8 inputs/outputs.
2, 4 or 8 In/Out LED's beingON indicates that consecu-tive channel codes are allo-cated to the I/O's, e.g. input1 coded to P1, input 2 to P2... input 8 to P8.
If only one In/Out LED isON, then the I/O's are cod-ed individually, e.g. input 1to C5, input 2 to D4 etc. Thecode for each I/O is indicat-ed by a group LED and achannel LED.
If the GAP 1605 is not con-nected to a Dupline system,it will turn off within two se-conds.
Prog - KeyWhen the displayed I/O-
coding corresponds to thedesired channel configura-ti on , th e codes wi ll bedownloaded to the Dupline
module when pressing the Prog key.
After programming is exe-cuted, a verification takesplace. If this verificationfails, all activated LEDs inthe display will flash twotimes, and the programmingunit will switch off.
If such behaviour occurs re-peatedly on the same mod-ule, the module may befaulty. If several modules failto download, the GAP 1605may be faulty.
Individual In/Out channelprogramming
The GAP 1605 features anadditional mode of single-channel editing. Pressing In/Out for more than 2seconds will change theoperating mode to single-point programming. The In/Out key is now usedto select one of the eightpossible inputs/output, thusmaking individual channelcoding possible. The In/Out-LEDs assign the display
channel code to the corre-sponding physical input/out-put of the module.
In singlemode the Chan-nel key also has the abilityto disable an In/Out-position. Channel must simply bepressed past channel 8,whereby both the ChannelLED and the Group LED willturn off. To reenable, justpress Channel again.
It is possible to change alleight Inputs/Outputs, even
though some Dupline mod-ules are built for only 1, 2 or4 Inputs/Outputs.
To exit single channel pro-gramming, just keep the In/Out key pressed for 2seconds.
Output status setting
On receivers it is possible toconfigure the status of theoutputs during Dupline fail-ure. Normally, any output ofa receiver will go off duringDupline failure. In some cas-es the inverted function isdesirable (e.g. light applica-tions - turn on light if theDupline is down).
To change output status, theGAP 1605 must be put intoconfiguration mode. This isdone as follows: Remove any connected
Dupline system. Keep both In/Out and
Group pressed, whilepressing Read/On .
The first In/Out LED nowturns on. Connect the Dupline
system, and press Read/On . If output status is set,
then channel LED 1 will illu-minate. Pressing Channel will toggle the output statusOn/Off.Press Prog to store. If Read/On is pressedwhen no Dupline system isconnected, the LEDs willflash to indicated a falsecondition. Only a successfulreading will reset this condi-tion.

GAP 1605
Mode of Operation (cont.)
Other features
To code a Dupline moduleoff-line, neither Dupline norpower to supply the moduleis required. Simply connectthe module to the program-mer and start coding.
If On-line coding (moduleconnected to an operatingDupline system) is per-formed, the module auto-matically disconnects ifselffrom the Dupline andreturns to normal operationafter the programmer cableis disconnected.
The GAP 1605 automaticallyturns off when no key hasbeen pressed within the last30 seconds.
If the connection cable is re-moved from the Dupline
module, the GAP 1605 willswitch off within 2 seconds.
Low battery indication
When battery is low, theIn/Out row of LEDs will rollcenterwards in an eye-catching manner.
Warning
When using the GAP 1605you must connect the cableto the GAP 1605 beforeconnecting the cable to anyDupline module that is tobe coded. Even so, thecable must first be removedfrom the Dupline modulebefore disconnecting it fromthe GAP 1605.Without observing these pre-cautions you may destroythe ASIC inside the Dupline
module through static dis-charges.
Caution
To ensure long battery life, always remember to turn theswitch off on the GAP1605.
