Mission Statement
The Dunn County Humane Society (DCHS) is dedicated to improving the lives of companion animals in our community and find-ing permanent and loving adoptive homes for the animals in our care. DCHS promotes the humane treatment of animals and operates as a no-kill facility, a philosophy that has been with the organization from the beginning. We do not forfeit the life of one animal to make space for another. All incoming animals are evaluated, medically treated and rehabilitated when possible.
DCHS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies on the good will and generosity of individuals and corporations.
Thank you to the Menomonie Professional Police
Association (MPPA) for choosing us as the benefactor for their golf tournament last month. They raised $3,500! We're so thankful to have such wonderful deputies,
officers, and staff protecting our community and helping our furry friends with their
fundraiser.
With excavation underway and concrete scheduled for late summer, framing is set to begin on September 9! SHARE IN OUR EXCITEMENT! A little over $60,000 remains to fully complete the project. Our letter campaign and other monetary requests will soon reach out to our generous community. Please support the shelter with a special BUILDING FUND donation today and also share our need with your family members and friends. Every little bit helps!

Jackie’s continuous support has meant so much to me personally and professionally over the years. She is such a valued member of the DCHS team and has selflessly volunteered so much of her time to our organization. We love you Jackie! – Jamie Wagner
Celebrating 10 Years of Dedication (by Jon Kroening)
Jackie Greene has given ten years of constant involvement, support & COUNTLESS volunteer hours to the Dunn County Humane Society. She has served as a DCHS board member since 2005 after already being an active volunteer. We are so very lucky to have such a dedicated, cherished volunteer contribute so very much to our organization. She has served as board secretary and treasurer, has served as committee chair for membership and fundraising, and has chaired many different fundraisers through-out the years. When she isn’t heading-up a fund-raiser, she is volunteering her time to help however she can. Jackie’s attention to detail and organization helps add to the success of any fundraiser she helps with. Her passion for the animals is apparent in how dedicated she is to ensuring the ongoing success of our shelter. We know we are extremely lucky to have Jackie on our team, and we hope she knows how much she is truly appreciated!

Reasons to Remind Us...
These last few months have been good ones. Not just because we had some successful fundraisers. And not just because our building project is getting underway. Although those are great things to be happy about, we are happy because some of our longest residents finally found their forever homes!
Sometimes it’s easy to loose track of why we do what we do. The business of running the shelter; working on fundraisers; and often being exposed to some bad situations tend to contribute to us sometimes losing site of our main goal of getting pets back home or finding them new forever homes. These last few months reminded us of why we do what we do and why we never give up. Five of our longest-term residents all went home. There are great stories to go behind each of them and some have sent us happy updates already (see Tails of Success, page 6).
We have eternal gratitude to all of these wonderful, loving people that opened their hearts to these pets. We are so happy to not only see our pets get fantastic homes...but to see their families get fantastic pets!

When I first heard about Sony, I knew I had to adopt him. Since the day I brought him home, he had been the most loving dog ever. I heard about his quirks, but I have found them to be no more than a lack of love and a little bit of discipline. That and maybe the amount of time he has spent at the humane society. Since bringing him home though he has been my best friend and he has never been shy of showing me his love. Best dog ever.
- Matt B.
Just wanted to let you all know
that Kit is doing phenomenal! She
sleeps with me every night, and
loves to play (which surprised me
since she is 7 years old!). Follows
me from room to room, talking to
me and wanting to be pet. Here she
is "helping" me with my 1000 piece
puzzle. I am so happy that she is
part of my forever home.
–Valerie N.
So I adopted little Taz from you guys
and one of your workers suggested I
send an update! Taz had been renamed
Peanut and he's doing very well! He's
gained a little weight and has two little
chicks of his very own...and I'm not
talkin’ about the ladies. We adopted
two baby chickens and Peanut won't let
anyone close by them unless he's
watching and heaven forbid you pick
them up. He loves the little babies so
much, it's pretty great. Thank you so much for letting me adopt him. I love Peanut so
much and he's a wonderful companion! - Chelsea C.
Captain (now George) is doing
great. We decided he has a sil-
ly personality and needed a
silly name. As you can see, he
and Skyler get along good.
Skyler isn't fond of "cuddling",
so this doesn't happen often.
George can run circles around
Skyler. I think Skyler knows
now how Brutus felt when he
was a puppy now. He plays with
George like Brutus played with
him. Fun to watch. Some of the
cats like him, some don't. It's
the puppy part they don't like.
He loves to chase them. He
knows which ones to leave
alone, but the puppy in him
gets carried away sometimes.
He loves to chew apart soft
chew toys and take the stuffing
out. There is stuffing every-
where all the time. He LOVES
his plug-in heated bed. Sleeps
all night in his bed burrowed
in a blanket. -Becky R.
I wanted to let you know that Oscar (formerly Egon Spengler) is doing great. We kept Oscar and Bernard apart the first day but they were play-ing so much under the door that we in-troduced them a lot earlier than every-one told us to. Fortunately, it worked out great. They were instant friends. Thank you for letting us adopt him. He is a great addition to our family.

Mutt St rut N’ Tabby Trot 2015 Summary
This year was the 22nd year the Dunn County Humane Society has been holding a walk
event fundraiser. Over the years, the event had changed and grown. Our goal has always
been to keep the event fresh, while providing that familiar feel to long-time supporters. We
feel like we accomplished that this year.
We are pleased to share that we raised over $13,700 for the care of cats and dogs in our
shelter. The expenses came in at just around $1,000 so we netted $12,700. This was only
possible through generous support from local businesses and a dedicated committee of
volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the event a success.
We've received some feedback and it has been
mostly positive. We had many comments about
how nice the facility was; how great all of the pet
expo vendors were; how good the food was; and
how much fun people had! We also heard that
some people weren't able to attend because of graduation or because of River Height's fun run that day. We
tried (and will try next year) to schedule this event so we didn't compete with others, but the calendar in May
for our community was full, full, full! That's good for Dunn County residents because they have lots of
options, but tough for event organizers to compete against each other.
Thank yous have been sent to all of our wonderful donors, expo vendors, and sponsors, but a special thanks
to Heidi Bohl from TV18 for emceeing the event - she was fantastic!! Also, a special thanks to our local
ARES/RACES group for coordinating our route and making sure we stayed safe on the
walk and run. And finally, thanks to all of the wonderful Pet Expo
vendors who came out to share their products and
services with all of us. The full list of sponsors
and expo vendors is on the
website, please make sure to
check them out and refer your
friends and family. Supporting
the businesses who support us,
helps them want to keep doing
it.
All of the pictures from the
event are in a gallery on the
website and also on Facebook.
Thanks for making this such a
successful event and see you next
year!!
Thank you to our newest corporate sponsors, Keyes Chevytown (Silver Level) and The Grounds Company (Gold Level). Please support these generous sponsors and let them know
you appreciate their commitment to homeless companion animals in our community.
