CONVEYOR BELTING RANGE DUNLOP BELTING PRODUCTS (Pty) Ltd. South Africa manufactures a comprehensive range of conveyor belting to suit all bulk materials handling applications. The belting can be manufactured to comply with most standards. Many different conveyor belt constructions are available. The selection of the most suitable conveyor belt construction for a particular application most take cognisance of the material to be conveyed, the operating environment, the length of the conveyor and the maximum belt tension. All conveyor belting consists of a carcass protected by covers. The carcass must limit stretch, withstand the tension, provide support to the load and must provide an efficient means of joining. The three types of conveyor belting construction manufactured by DUNLOP BELTING PRODUCTS (Pty) Ltd. South Africa are:

• Multiply carcass construction Figure 1. Multiply construction • Solid woven carcass construction

• Steel Cord construction

Selecting the most suitable belt construction The most versatile belt construction is the multiply construction (figure 1) and for this reason is the most widely used. This construction is easily joined and can be manufactured in a wide range of strengths. Synthetic fabric reinforcement limits elongation to acceptable levels. Hardwearing rubber covers provide long term protection to the carcass. Multiply construction conveyor belting with rubber covers is the best type for conveying hard ores and other hard abrasive materials when the conveyor length is less than 1000 metres and the belt tension up to 125 kN/m.

When coal is conveyed, particularly in fiery mines, the solid woven construction (figure 2) with PVC impregnation is the most economic conveyor belt. This construction is suitable for belt tensions up to 160 kN/m. DUNLOP BELTING PRODUCTS (Pty) Ltd. South Africa manufacture Solid Woven carcass construction with either cotton reinforced PVC covers or, for extended belt life, Nitrile rubber covers.

For long conveyors and those where the belt tension is greater than 125 kN/m the cord construction (figure 3) using steel cords is the most economic choice.

MULTIPLY TEXTILE REINFORCED

CONVEYOR BELTING

• XT textile reinforced conveyor belting in the complete SANS 1173 range of classes and types

• Fire resistant belting conforming to SANS 971

• Heat resistant belting

• Super heat resistant belting

• Oil resistant belting

• Oil resistant and Fire Resistant (BVO type)

BELTING CHARACTERISTICS

XT Conveyor Belting

• All-synthetic plies, chemically treated to ensure a high bond to rubber, provide high strength and low elongation.

• Thick, resilient rubber between the plies for exceptional impact resistance and the rigidity to support the heaviest loads.

• Strong weft reinforcement offers high resistance to ripping and allows fast and efficient joining with mechanical fasteners.

• The complete range of SANS types provide cost effective versatility. Type N offers good cut, gouge and abrasion resistance making it suitable for most bulk materials handling applications. Type M has superior physical properties and generally has higher resistance to cutting, gouging tearing and abrasion than type N. For those applications where cutting and gouging of the cover are not severe but fine, heavy and very abrasive material is conveyed then type A provides the solution.

BVO, Oil and Fire Resistant Belting • Synthetic rubber covers provide resistance to oils and conform to the fire resistant requirements of SANS 971 specification. Particularly suited to conveying oily, abrasive materials in applications where fire is a hazard.

Fire Resistant Belting • Conforms to SANS 971

• Multiply Rubber covered Fire Resistant belting provides high resistance to abrasion and exceptional fatigue resistance.

• Meets the stringent standards for safety in all underground mining applications.

• High coefficient of friction allows material to be conveyed up steep inclines without slip and is therefore particularly suited to shaft applications.

Heat Resistant Belting

• Heat Resistant belting has synthetic SBR covers in a special formulation that provides added heat and ageing resistance. It is suitable for handling fine materials with temperatures up to 120ºC or up to 140ºC for coarse, lumpy material.

Super Heat Resistant Belting

• Super Heat Resistant belts have chlorobutyl covers to provide higher temperature resistance. Super belting is suitable for handling materials with temperatures of up to 170ºC.

Oil Resistant Belting

• Synthetic rubber covers that are suitable for conveying a wide range of abrasive materials that contain mineral or vegetable oils.

SOLID WOVEN PVC BELTING

• Standard Solid Woven PVC belting

• Nitrile covered Solid Woven PVC belting

BELTING CHARACTERISTICS

Standard Solid Woven Conveyor Belting • Polyester warp members in the carcass provide high

strength while limiting elongation • A combination of cotton and polyester used in the weft to

provide exceptional resistance to belt rip. The cotton clings to the PVC impregnation making it difficult for mechanical fasteners to ‘comb out’.

• PVC impregnated cotton surrounds the tension carrying warp. By means of the unique manufacturing process the PVC impregnation is pressed hard into the cotton providing armoured protection for long service life

• Fire resistant properties that comply fully with SANS 971 specification. The belting is approved by SABS and carries the SABS mark.

• Oil resistant • Resistant to a wide range of chemicals • Standard Solid Woven belting has excellent bolt holding

capabilities and is ideal for use on bucket elevators • The unique manufacturing process results in a smooth

covered belt that reduces noise

Nitrile Covered Solid Woven Belting A Nitrile rubber cover is applied to a standard PVC impregnated solid woven carcass.

• Conforms to SANS 971 • The Nitrile rubber covers offer excellent abrasion

resistance. The thickness of the cover can be increased to improve life expectancy.

• Meets the stringent standards for safety in all underground mining applications.

• High coefficient of friction allows material to be conveyed up steep inclines without slip and is therefore particularly suited to shaft applications.

• An excellent cross linking chemical bond between the PVC impregnation of the carcass and the Nitrile rubber cover ensures little possibility of cover stripping

STEEL CORD REINFORCED

CONVEYOR BELTING

Steel cord reinforced conveyor belting is manufactured to any internationally recognised specification. Some examples are

• SANS 1366 Type M, N or F • DIN 22131 Type X, W or K

Also manufactured in special constructions • Unique Textile "Ripstop" protection • Embedded rip detection loops • Textile or Steel breaker fabrics embedded in one or both

or the covers • Low Rolling Resistance (LRR) cover

BELTING CHARACTERISTICS Steel cord reinforced conveyor belting is manufactured on state of the art Seimpelkamp lines using only the highest quality raw materials. Each cord is individually tensioned with exactly the same hydraulic force. The tension in each cord is recorded during the vulcanisation cycle to verify compliance with tolerances.

• High tensile strength cords ensure lowest elongation. • Each wire of the cord is hot dipped galvanised providing

extended corrosion protection and exceptional bond to the rubber.

• ’Open’ cord construction ensures complete rubber penetration is verified by air penetration tests on every length of belt.

High grade rubber covers • Conforming to SANS 1366 or DIN 22131(Belting can

also be supplied to other specifications) • Low Rolling Resistance rubber available with test

certificates verifying indentation coefficient

Complete Range of Belt Strengths • The complete range of strengths can be manufactured

from • St500 to St7100 in widths of up to 2400 mm. • Strength of individual cords is verified by in-house

tensile tests.
