Welcome


Dummer Golf Club is set in nearly 200 acres of gently undulating Hampshire countryside. Designed by Peter Alliss the 6,533-yard, par-72 golf course makes the most of its spectacular location while also providing an excellent test of golf for players of all abilities.

Constructed to the highest standards, our course drains well and provides all-year-round golf with absolutely no winter greens or tees. The club also boasts a driving range with 10 covered bays and an extensive short game practice area.

There are a range of attractive membership options to suit every circumstance and we welcome visitors and golfing societies seven days a week.

Situated just two minutes from junction 7 of the M3 the golf club is conveniently located just to the south of Basingstoke and is less than a 30-minute drive from Winchester, Andover and Alton.


The course at Dummer was designed by former Ryder Cup player and popular BBC golf commentator Peter Alliss and was first played in 1992.

There are no steep hills to climb and the walks from tee to green are nice and easy. The views are wonderful especially when playing the final six holes and there is an abundance of wildlife to look out for.

A complete ecology review was undertaken and the course management plan incorporates the findings so as to produce a course that not only provides a marvellous environment in which to play golf but enhances the land for much of the local flora and fauna.

Built on chalk downland, the course is amazingly free draining and is playable in all seasons. Trollies are never banned and no use of winter tees or greens make

Dummer an all-year-round course. Four lakes and Hampshire’s largest bunker add to the interest and challenge.

If you have never played at Dummer before, do not be fooled by the open layout! Clever use of mounding, hollows and water make this a fine test of golf. Hit the fairway and turn up with your short game and the golfing gods will shine on you.

About the Course


Probably the toughest hole on the course is the 6th and golfers always breathe a sigh of relief when this one is out of the way. Measuring 448 yards from the back tees this challenging uphill par 4 is a test for all. A huge hollow to the left forces the tee shot wide, making the hole even longer. The green is well guarded by bunkers and can offer some tricky putts, so this is certainly stroke index 1 on merit.

Dummer is a picturesque course and nowhere is this more in evidence than on the short 5th hole. Walking up on to the elevated tee reveals this splendid par 3 in all its glory. The large lake filled with water lilies stretching across the front of the green is the first thing that catches the player’s eye as he tees up the ball. Correct club selection is vital as the water and the greenside bunkers must be carried, but a nasty shallow bunker at the back of the green is there to catch those who overshoot the putting surface. A sloping green completes this great-looking short hole.

The head professional is Andrew Fannon, who is supported by two other PGA-qualified PGA professionals, David Holman and Darren Lovegrove and assistant professional Liam Mugford.

We can personalise many items in large or small quantities and will do our best to try and track down that special something you have been searching for.

The shop offers all the normal golfing services such as buggy or trolley hire, club re-gripping, installation of custom fitted graphite shafts and replacement of soft or metal spikes.

Dummer is able to offer some outstanding practice facilities to those with the time and dedication to invest in improving their game.

Not far from the clubhouse there is a superb 10-bay, covered driving range which is perfect for working on ball striking and the long game whatever the weather.

The ball dispenser is located by the entrance to the range and it is just £1 for a basket of 25 good quality golf balls. The range is open between dawn and dusk and is available to both members and non-members.

While there is nothing more satisfying than belting a drive down the middle of the fairway, the savvy player is well aware that the fastest way to lower one’s handicap is by focusing on the short game.

By the first tee there is a short-game area, allowing players to work on their accuracy with pitch shots from 80 yards and in.

Also in the space between 1st tee and driving range you will find a large putting green, practice bunker and chipping area. For those arriving at the course for a round with only a few minutes to spare, there are two driving nets to stretch the muscles before heading to the first tee.

Whilst we are constantly striving to develop club teams and individuals to a winning standard, golf at Dummer doesn’t revolve around competitive play alone. The club welcomes members of all abilities who want to enjoy and improve their game and who want to meet new people. A number of different membership categories have been designed for today’s modern golfer. As well as the traditional Five and Seven Day Memberships there are Seven Day Restricted and Seven Day Executive Memberships.

Dummer is able to offer its members a wide variety of competitive golf, against other clubs and against fellow members in club competitions and knockouts.

The club is proud to say that it is fully integrated, with women and men competing on an equal footing, dependent solely on their handicap allowance. Groupings for the bi-monthly club medals and stablefords is done on a purely random basis, ensuring no cliques form and that new members quickly get to know everyone and are made to feel relaxed and comfortable as quickly as possible.

Club championship weekend generally takesplaceattheendofJune,withaslightly more forgiving start than for the DruidsCup(5.30am),anoveleventwhich takes place in the same month to celebrate the summer solstice.

The men are the largest group at the club and enjoy a varied calendar of competitions both on their home course and against other clubs.

OneofthemorenotableistheSpitfireTrophy, which sees home and away matches against South Winchester and Test Valley, followed by a finals day. Dummer won this event in 2011. The man play home and away against Weybrook Park for the 93 Trophy usually towards the endofJuly.

Leading the way in accounting


There are not many clubs that battle for a piece of silverware named after a motorway, but that is what happens each year in May when Dummer and Basingstoke contest the M3 Trophy.

A mixed event, the ladies play one course in the morning and the other in the afternoon, with the men playing the two courses in the opposite order. Both teams then meet up for a meal and the prizegiving in the evening, with the clubs taking it in turns to host the celebration of life either side of Hampshire’s busiest road.

Though a relatively small section, the Ladies are a very keen group, meeting on a Tuesday morning and playing for trophies such as the Granny Cup, Bunny Cup and Poppy Trophy.

The Ladies play many matches during the week and at weekends and are supporters of some of the leading events organised by the Hampshire Ladies County Golf Association. They play in the Knight Cup, a knockout foursomes handicap matchplay event, with only one pair per club allowed and the Stoneham Cup, a team event consisting of seven players from each club. This event is formed of eight groups, with each round-robin winner advancing to the quarter-finals.

The Seniors play Winter League matches against other clubs, while competition is always keen for the annual winter and summer knockout pairs and singles events at the club.

The roll-up day for Seniors is generally a Monday, with a two-tee start shortly before 9am. The Seniors and their spouses meet once a month on a Thursday to enjoy an informal round of golf followed by a sociable lunch. They and their wives enjoy a Christmas dinner at the club, while the Seniors celebrate the festive season to the full by also sitting down to a Christmas lunch.

Clubhouse and Dining Room


The clubhouse offers great comfort and a welcoming atmosphere in which to socialise and relax before or after a round of golf. The 19th boasts a Spike Bar, which is well stocked with a wide selection of beers, wines, and spirits and non-alcoholic drinks, together with a comfortable lounge area.

For the more formal occasions, such as functions, or after a match against another club, a sit-down meal can be enjoyed in the sumptuous dining area known as the Tartan Room.

In fact, when it comes to the catering, Dummer has a well-deserved reputation for serving delicious, freshly prepared food. With daily specials, an excellent lunch-time menu, our popular Sunday lunches, or home-made cakes, you will surely find something to tempt you.

Complete the Social Membership application form on our website and you will be entitled to a club card. While a fee is payable for social membership, in effect it is free, because all of your annual subscription is then credited to your club card. Use your club card when you purchase food and drink and you will have your bill reduced by 10 per cent.

You can also be included to receive our monthly e-mail newsletter bringing you all the latest news from Dummer. The club often holds social events which as a Social Member you might like to attend, such as our popular themed evenings. Notable dates in the calendar such as Christmas and the New Year are also celebrated in style. Any excuse, in fact, for a get-together.

Public transportThe nearest railway station is Basingstoke, which is around six miles or a 15-minute taxi ride away. Frequent trains run to London Waterloo and to Southampton and Portsmouth on the South Coast.
