My whole life I've dreaded waking up early every morning and going to school, but that all changed when I transferred to Lakeview a year ago (well other than the waking up early part because nobody likes doing that!) I'm blessed to be a part of such a wonderful school; it makes the early mornings worth it. I don't know if I could say that about any other school. I've lived in the same house in Cloquet, Minnesota my whole life. I went to the Cloquet Public Schools from kindergarten to my sophomore year in high school. Experiencing all the negative influences that a public school holds has made it hard for me to stay strong in my faith. I was one of few true Christians going to school there. It's not easy being the odd one out. I knew I needed to make a change and get away from the toxic atmosphere. Last summer when I was getting baptized, someone was inspired by my testimony and knew I was interested in Lakeview. They talked with my family and offered to pay for me to go there. I gladly accepted the offer! I was very nervous on the first day of school, but was relieved when I got there and was welcomed by the nice teachers and staff. I could tell they really wanted me to feel comfortable and understood the struggle of transferring schools. I was afraid that the school work would be hard for me. Turns out, I had no reason to be scared. I had an easier time keeping up with my homework at Lakeview than I did at Cloquet due to the teachers being more engaged and providing help when I needed it. I feel more motivated to succeed at Lakeview. The teachers push me to do my best. Transferring to Lakeview has helped me to grow in my faith. Constantly being around other believers is a huge encouragement. We take Bible class and have chapel once a week. I learned a lot more about Christianity than I knew before I came here. The students are all nice and have positively influenced me to be the best person I can be. I’m so thankful to be able to attend Lakeview. It’s a unique school that I hope no one takes for granted. I’ve already learned so much in one year and I’m very excited to see what’s in store for me this upcoming year. I wouldn’t want to graduate anywhere else. It’s going to be a good year. We would also like to thank the count-

less volunteers who have donated their

time and talent throughout the year.

For a small independent school, we not only impact the lives of our students, but also the lives of those they will reach, teach and lead as they grow into adulthood. In order to pro-vide this opportunity for Christian education to as many students as possible, we aim to keep tuition within reach of as many families as possible. Your generous gifts help us to bridge that gap between what we charge in tuition and the actual cost of educating each child. This gap is our Annual Fund and our goal for the 2017-18 school year is $155,000.

During the 2016-17 school year we received over $344,000 in restricted and unrestricted gifts. Our gratitude goes out to our Heavenly Father for blessing and watching over our school, and to all who generously give to support the work and ministry of Lakeview Christian Academy.

Katie Lee Hoven, Class of 2019 I’ve gone to Lakeview Christian Academy since Kindergarten. I am so thankful for all the caring Christian teachers and staff and the loving Christian friends I have made there. The school does not just prepare you for college or a career. It prepares you for life, relationships, and most importantly having a close relationship with God. The support I have received from the staff and the teachers has been incredible. I am able to come to them with questions, goals, and prayer requests, and I always receive the help that I need. Going to Lakeview has also given me many opportunities to serve, like leading discipleship groups with my friends, community service days, and being a teacher’s aide. The friends I have made at Lakeview are unforgettable. They are more than just someone to sit by. They are people that make me laugh, people that care about me, and most importantly people who help me grow in my faith. These kinds of friendships are hard to come by, but going to Lakeview helped make that happen. Lakeview Christian Academy has left a lasting impact on my life. I wouldn’t trade these years for the world.

Calvin Kallis, Class of 2019 When I first came to Lakeview, I noticed this school was very different than previous schools I had attended. The first thing I noticed was the class size difference – they were smaller. It took me a while to adapt to it, but after a while I became close to the people in my class and soon enough we became one family, learning together. After one completed year at Lakeview, I decided to re-enroll for my 2nd year of middle school. Getting to know the teachers more, I soon realized these people care about my education and learning abilities; they don't treat me like a number. The teachers make sure you don't fall behind. They use their free time to focus on a hard subject or something you need clarification on. A few years ago a couple friends and I decided it would be cool to raise some money and start a baseball team. We set up a classic lemonade stand and ended up raising more money than we thought we would. We brought the funds to Mr. Benson and told him our interest. He then got in touch with some people who were interested in coaching a team. My friends and I really appreciate Mr. Benson’s effort and everyone’s ability to get this baseball team started. Lakeview has been and still is preparing me for college. I think this is very important as well as unique, considering that soon college will be a big part in my life.
