The Dulles International Airport is often described as a monument, a
“Platonic ideal of an airport” . Yet it lacks the neo-Roman, staticmonumentality of the Federal architectural tradition. Its monumentality is one
appropriate for the technological age. It is a symbol of the future, designed at a
time when jet travel was still a fresh, exciting concept.

AN ISOMETRIC
VIEW OF
PROPOSED
STRUCTURE(N.T.SCALE)
After reviewing the present status andarchitecture of the building, we tried to
evolve new structre, keeping most of thedesign rationals and architects pholosophy.
One of the major problem the structure is
facing presently is of rain water drainage.Sometimes roof leaks and creats mess incertain areas.
Apart from that the overall structure is a
very good example of archtectural synergyintegrating form, and functions with
innovative structure.
We had tried to change the roofing system,
with keeping overall design almost same.

main cable fishing line is having 0.0625” diaAm = 0.0031 in²
and
secondary tieing fishing line used for is having0.012” dia (area 0.00011 sq. in)
Geometric scale Sg = 1: 48
Strain scale Ss = 1 (due to large deflections)
Original strand Eo = 24,000ksi

“Almost two miles away across the green
Virginia countryside the great building comes into view with classic lucidity,
massed in white splendor on its monumental
base, its giant columns rising like muscular
arms to hold aloft the long brow of the
roof; and one knows immediately that this is
the fulfillment of the search.”
