Delroy Campus – Year 7 Trans ition E vening
A big congratulations to our Debating team
who made it into the zone finals last week,
although they did not win, we had Nathan
Hawkes being selected for the Western
Debating side. Thank you to Mrs Farquhar
and Ms Hines who have supported this team
throughout the year.
Isaiah Towney and Amberlilly Gordon have
travelled to Sydney to rehearse for the NSW
Schools Aboriginal Dance Company. We are
looking forward to watching them perform at
the Schools Spectacular being held in
December.
Mr Piper came back with success from the
Mendooran Horse Show, with Tori Campbell
Kelly and Harry Jackson taking out many
firsts on the day.
SRC have been working tirelessly to organise
our first school disco this Thursday 22nd
August. The theme is “Go with the Glow”
and we have already sold over 100 tickets. It
will be a fun night for students to dance the
night away.
Next week we will be holding our NAIDOC
day and our Equity team have organised a
full program. We will be having many
visitors to the school and all activities will be
held on the oval.
Congratulations to Nathan Freeman who was
successful in winning the shirt design compe-
tition. His shirt has been manufactured and
will be worn by the students who are
involved in the South vs Delroy sport
competition that will be played on NAIDOC
day.

From the Principal... Delroy students win places in NSW Public
Schools Aboriginal Dance Company
Two Delroy Campus students have been selected in the 2013 NSW Public
Schools Aboriginal Dance Company to perform at the State Dance
Festival and the Schools Spectacular later this year. Isaiah Towney and
Amberlilly Gordon were selected for the elite 28-strong group from 750
applicants across the State.
Established for the fourth year by the Department of Education’s Arts
Unit, the program is run in partnership with Bangarra Dance Theatre,
Australia’s leading Indigenous performing arts organisation. The dancers
will work to a tight schedule of rehearsals in the next few months to
perfect their routines
“We have already been to Sydney for a three-day rehearsal and will return
for further practice at the end of this month,” Amberlilly said. “It’s hard
but it’s fun. The State Dance Festival is on 5th and 6th September, so that
is our initial aim, and then we will be working towards to Schools
Spectacular in November.”
Department of Education Arts Initiative Adviser, Sonja Benson, said this
year’s Aboriginal Dance Company was one of the best and the largest to
be selected since its inception.
“Interest in joining the group has been increasing each year and it is
considered a real privilege to be selected,” she said.
The NSW Public Schools Aboriginal Dance Company is one of the Arts
Unit’s specialist programs. It is a highly motivational program aimed at
building students’ skills, knowledge and cultural awareness.
Delroy Campus students Isaiah Towney and Amberlilly Gordon were selected
out of 750 students to be part of this year’s 28-strong NSW Public Schools
Aboriginal Dance Company.
2 2 DELROY CAMPUS NEWSLETTER Wednesday 21st August 2013 2
Students from Delroy Campus travelled
to Dunedoo and Mendooran last week to
compete in the interschool’s Equestrian
Competition.
Harry Jackson and Tori Campbell-Kelly
competed with great success over two
days.
Harry Jackson was successful in taking
out the 16 years and over division at
Dunedoo, against strong competition.
This was more credible as Harry was
competing on a young horse that was
competing in its first show.
Tori Campbell-Kelly won many classes
over the two days and both students
should be very proud of their efforts.
Delroy also had a big band of helpers
who did an excellent job over the two
days and received positive feedback
from the organisers. Overall it was a
highly successful excursion and
Mr David Piper Horse Sports Co-
ordinator would like to congratulate all
the students on their excellent efforts and
attitude.

Student Medical Forms - Delroy Campus During Terms 3 and 4 we will be updating our medical records systems to ensure we
have the most up-to-date information on your child’s health.
If you have a child with a medical condition you will receive a copy of the new forms
in the mail and you will need to fill them out and return them to us as soon as you can.
The good news is we have already started collecting some of this information, which
means less for you to do.
The new forms will help us collect your child’s important medical information and the introduction of new systems will
mean we’ll be better able to manage the daily and emergency health needs of your child.
We appreciate your support as we start collecting the information and if you have any questions please call.

Year 10 History
As I type, Year 10 students are actively involved in their History Site Study. Students are
required to examine a memorial to the Vietnam War (virtual or real) as a way of learning about
the war and the social and political issues at the time. The Year 10 History course looks more
at “Issues” in the time since WW2 rather than a chronological study up to and including WW2
which students undertook in Year 9. Other issues to be investigated in Year 10 include Immigration, Changing Rights and
Freedoms of various groups (migrants, women, and Aboriginal people). Students will also study Prime Ministers with an
insight into the political issues, as well as a decade study involving the politics, fashions, music, television, etc of a particu-
lar decade.
National Curriculum
Mr Audisho has been busy preparing programs, and resources to teach the new History courses to Years 7 and 9 in 2014.
This is a huge job, even though the new course is closer to the NSW syllabus than any other State’s curriculum.
Staffing
Since the start of this term we have had the pleasure of having Ms Russell in the faculty. She has been taking the place of
Mr Edwards, and will be with us until the end of the year. She has been doing a great job covering his History, Geography,
English and PDHPE classes.

DEBATING…….. The Debating Team last week faced an unexpected challenge from Gulgong High School when we found that we were the
zone finalists. It was an interesting debate with a lot of good arguments flowing. The topic was that we should reserve
seats in parliament for indigenous members. We were on the negative side. Our team consisted of 1st speaker Sarah
Toohey, second speaker Shaman Ryan third speaker Nathan Hawkes and team adviser Callie Woodburn. Lauren Ward
was the adjudicator and she commended both sides on their team lines and debate topics.
The debate went to Delroy and so we were then required to be at the regionals in Molong the next week. With little time
to prepare the team tried to cover all current issues and focussed on the current political atmosphere.
At Molong the team was first to debate. We were the affirmative. Sarah Toohey led the debate on violence in songs with
Sam Read as second speaker and Nathan Hawkes as third. Chayce Giles was the team adviser. We debated against
Orange High School. While the debaters prepared the rest of the team consisting of Shaman Ryan, Reece Holland and
Callie Woodburn were involved in a series of workshops that revolved around topics such as bullying, euthanasia and the
Australian flag. Although we did not win, it was a great day.
Nathan Hawkes was selected to join the four person team representing the Western Region. This is an incredible accolade
for our debating team and we are very proud of Nathan’s efforts to achieve at this level. He will be going to Sydney in
November to compete at State titles.
As a team it has been good to see the growth of the team and while some move to the Senior Campus next year I must
congratulate all members for a great effort this year and happy debating in the future.

Lucas Walters: Delroy’s French kart connection
A 14-year-old boy, born and raised in France, has added a new dimension to life at Dubbo College Delroy Campus this
year. Year 9 student Lucas Walters not only brings life-long experience of a different culture, but also a long list of
achievements in his chosen sport of kart racing.
Lucas, who began kart racing as a 7 year
old, made an impressive debut in
Australia in June, nine months after his
last race in France. Competing in the
Junior National Light Category, Lucas
had a podium finish in the annual Three
Track Challenge at Dubbo’s Lincoln
County Raceway. He followed this up in
July when he finished fourth in the final
of the 125cc Rotax Junior Max category.
This weekend he will compete in the
Australasian Gold Cup, hosted by Dubbo
Kart Club, and he is hoping to pull out a
top performance.
“Karting is a major sport in Europe and I
was really pleased to find it is also
popular at Dubbo,” Lucas said. “Lincoln
County Raceway is a great track and the
club has a championship race every month.
Most recently I took out a third and fourth
place so I was quite pleased with my
performance.”
In France Lucas was placed sixth in his category prior to moving to Australia earlier this year. For racing in Europe,
Lucas held an International “C” junior licence and the Australian Karting Association automatically issued him with an
Australian “B” grade licence for racing here.
Bruce, his Australian father, first became involved in motor sports in 1964 and moved to France 21 years ago as a
qualified ski instructor. He was instrumental in introducing Lucas to competition skiing and kart racing in Europe.
“Racing in the Northern Hemisphere is extremely competitive, but Australian karters like Joseph Mawson, Pierce Lehane,
Dimitri Agathos and Josh Smith are really making their mark on European kart racing circuits,” Bruce said. “Hopefully
Lucas will progress to follow their traces heading towards top motor racing formulas.”
Lucas shares his passion for kart racing with three other students at Delroy Campus – Kyle Reynolds and Nathan and
Bradley Freeman. All are keen racers and Lucas and Kyle are looking forward to competing together at the NSW State
Titles at Lithgow in October.
