Delegates will head to State Capitol for CSEA’s 88thAnnual Conference

CSEA’s Annual Conference is back in California this year. It will be held at the Sacramento Conven-tion Center Aug. 4-7, 2014. More than 2,000 CSEA members, staff and guests are expected to at-tend.

Dedicated classified employees from all over California will share ideas, debate and vote on resolutions, adopt a budget and present awards for outstanding service and achievement. The conference is where CSEA members set the leadership, legislative and budgetary direction of the union. Democracy in action All conference delegates are CSEA members who are locally elected or appointed by members of the chapter they are rep-resenting. They will spend the week gathering information and casting votes on behalf of their chapter. In addition to the formally scheduled events, the conference presents members with a unique opportunity to exchange ideas, share prob-lems and solutions, and network with colleagues from around the state. Resolutions Delegates will debate and vote on resolutions, which are formally submitted proposals, often written by local chapters, which determine policies and priorities for the union. Resolutions can range from unfinished business and fiscal matters to general policy and proposed legislation. Business and financial Conference delegates will review the association’s budget with great detail to ensure that members’ dues money is being spent appropriately and with the greatest return to members. The next CSEA budget will not go forward until these mem-bers approve it with a majority vote. Awards and honors CSEA will honor its most outstanding members throughout the week with the presentation of several awards, including Life Member and Honor Roll, Members of the Year, Activist of the Year, Communication Awards, Wally Blice (political action), Circle of Stars (Victory Club growth), Humanitarian of the Year and Membership Unity Program (chapter organ-izing). Military Tribute Do you have a loved one serving in the Armed Forces? Send us their name, rank, branch of service, along with a photo, and we will be sure to include it in a military tribute for our loved ones. We will be honoring one branch a day. We would like to also recognize delegates who served in the Armed Forces. Please send what branch you served to Jody Bell. We will have all delegate vets report for duty on Monday morning at 10 am in the general session area. Please email information to Conference Coordinator Jody Bell at [email protected] by July 27.

Memorial Wall The memorial wall lists the names of members who have passed since the previous conference. These names are based on information received from chapters. If you want to make sure that someone is included, please forward that information to Jody Bell.

Congratulations Alicia Brieno and Cesar Hernandez for being voted this years Delegates.
