Customer Case | DiscoveryTel Ghana The Customer DiscoveryTel Ghana (DTG) was established in 2004 as an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) based innovative service provider with the capability to design, supply and execute a complete multi-faceted Wide Area Networks (WANs) and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) infrastructure, and delivering convergent services such as Internet, data, video, and images. The Challenge The reduced performance and coverage of the initial 802.16 fixed WiMAX network in conjunction with the high installation costs of the fully outdoor CPEs and reduced billing capabilities, have urged DTG to follow a different business model on their WiMAX network. Initially, DTG provided fixed broadband services to large corporate customers with line of site access (LOS). The new approach incorporated the network performance & coverage upgrade as well as the provisioning of access to business users of all type (SOHOs, SMEs), and to residential users (fixed and mobile). Corporate customers were served only via fully outdoor CPEs that incurred high costs per customer. The new WiMAX network (802.16e) offers a variety of CPEs. The new network will give the ability to customers to select from a wide variety of both indoor and outdoor CPEs depending on their needs. Along with the WiMAX network technology migration the need for advanced billing capabilities was raised in order to increase the flexibility and attractiveness of the broadband access package services offered by DTG. A new AAA server had to be installed along with a solution of base stations to provide prepaid and postpaid capabilities. The Solution The winning solution comprises the OmniMAX™ Base Station and its rich ecosystem, the OmniBAS™ Point-to-Point Native Ethernet Radio systems and the unified management system uni|MS™. The offer includes also on-site services and customer support enabling DTG to realize its first steps in the era of Personal Broadband Services.

Customer Case | DiscoveryTel Ghana

The Customer

DiscoveryTel Ghana (DTG) was established in 2004 as an Information and

Communications Technology (ICT) based innovative service provider with the

capability to design, supply and execute a complete multi-faceted Wide Area

Networks (WANs) and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) infrastructure, and

delivering convergent services such as Internet, data, video, and images.

The Challenge

The reduced performance and coverage of the initial 802.16 fixed WiMAX

network in conjunction with the high installation costs of the fully outdoor CPEs

and reduced billing capabilities, have urged DTG to follow a different business

model on their WiMAX network.

Initially, DTG provided fixed broadband services to large corporate customers

with line of site access (LOS). The new approach incorporated the network

performance & coverage upgrade as well as the provisioning of access to

business users of all type (SOHOs, SMEs), and to residential users (fixed and

mobile).

Corporate customers were served only via fully outdoor CPEs that incurred high

costs per customer. The new WiMAX network (802.16e) offers a variety of CPEs.

The new network will give the ability to customers to select from a wide variety

of both indoor and outdoor CPEs depending on their needs.

Along with the WiMAX network technology migration the need for advanced

billing capabilities was raised in order to increase the flexibility and attractiveness

of the broadband access package services offered by DTG. A new AAA server

had to be installed along with a solution of base stations to provide prepaid and

postpaid capabilities.

The Solution

The winning solution comprises the OmniMAX™ Base Station and its rich

ecosystem, the OmniBAS™ Point-to-Point Native Ethernet Radio systems and

the unified management system uni|MS™. The offer includes also on-site

services and customer support enabling DTG to realize its first steps in the era

of Personal Broadband Services.
