migrate data from WSS 3.0 to MOSS 2007, WSS 3.0 (Platform A) to WSS 3.0 (Platform B), MOSS

How dSHIFT Migrator works dSHIFT Migrator for SharePoint® acts as a black box to migrate all data including sites/lists/template

and security to the target SharePoint environment. Following diagram explains how dSHIFT

Migrator works

NOTE [The above diagram tells that we need to install dSHIFT Migrator Service on Source

and Destination platform. And where we want to install Migrator, we don’t need to install dSHIFT

Migrator Service. Migrator can work remotely (as shown in the above diagram) and also

we can install it on either Source or Destination WSS/ MOSS/ SharePoint 2010 Platform.]

Migration Process Basically dSHIFT Migrator for SharePoint® can migrate all the data within WSS 3.0/MOSS/SharePoint

2010. This tool can migrate tons of terra bytes of data for top score companies. Migration

process is relatively easy and based on simple drag ‘n’ drop method. Following diagram will

clearly describe the migration process of dSHIFT Migrator.



Choose Source & Destination

Initially users have to choose source & destination SharePoint farm’s WFE server name. It must

be noted that service should be installed in both source and destination SharePoint farm’s WFE

servers. After choosing servers next step is to press proceed key.

1. Source SharePoint farm’s WFE name – in which dSHIFT Migrator service is installed.

2. Destination SharePoint farm’s WFE name -- in which dSHIFT Migrator service is installed.

3. If you have more than one source domain networks available you can connect to a

different source domain network by providing appropriate credentials.

4. If you have more than one destination domain networks available you can connect

to a different destination domain network by providing appropriate credentials.

5. Click to select is source web application.

6. Click to select destination web application.

7. Click this button to prompt to the next migration step.

Content selection on source

Next, the software will show the user both the source and destination farm’s web applications

hierarchy. Next step is to choose the site collection/site/web/list from source web application

which is to be copied in destination web application. After selection click “start migration” key

to start migration. User can drag and drop method more than once for site

collection/site/web/list as well to process migration in batch mode.

dSHIFT Migrator for SharePoint® starts migration of the data when we click the “Start Migration” button.

Migration execution

Following are the basic steps involved in the migration process.

Export data to the source SharePoint farm.

Copy data form source to destination SharePoint farm

Import data to destination SharePoint farm

Then after taking a suitable time dSHIFT Migrator completes its process of migration and data

is copied to the destination SharePoint farm.

1. Progress summary – Displays the progress of the whole migration process.

2. Errors—Show possible errors in the process.

3. Warnings— any threat or warning is displayed in this tab.

4. Current action of migration process is displayed here.

5. Source site that we want to migrate.

6. List that is place in the destination web application (Still not migrated yet we can

delete it from migration process by right click and selecting “Remove this item from

migration”. see image below.

SharePoint A Brief Idea To be very brief, SharePoint is an operating system for web. Microsoft SharePoint®, also known

as Microsoft SharePoint® Products and Technologies, is a collection of products and software

elements that includes, amongst a growing selection of components; Internet Explorer based

collaboration functions, process management modules, search modules and a document-

management platform. SharePoint can be used to host web sites that access shared

workspaces, information stores and documents, as well as host defined applications such as

wikis and blogs. All users can manipulate proprietary controls called "web parts" or interact

with pieces of content such as lists and document libraries.

The term SharePoint® can collectively refer to a number of products ranging from the base

platform to various services. WSS is the platform that includes windows server and services like

MOSS or SharePoint 2010 provides additional functionality and features and are licensed
