3. Installation
3.1 LocationTheQuestDRY150canbeinstalledinavarietyoflocationstomeettheowner'sneedsaslistedbelow.Inallcaseskeepthefollowingcautionsinmind:
ItisdesignedtobeinstalledINDOORSINASPACETHATISPROTECTEDFROMRAINANDFLOODING.
Installtheunitwithspacetoaccessthebackandsidepanelsformaintenanceandserviceandalsotoalloweasyaccesstotheltercoverpanel.DONOTINSTALLUNITWITHTHEFRONTPANELORFILTERCOVERPANELINACCESSIBLE.
Avoiddischargingtheairdirectlyatpeople,oroverthewaterinpoolareas.
Ifusednearapoolorspa,becertainthereisNOchancetheunitcouldfallintothewaterorbesplashed
andthatitispluggedintoaGROUNDFAULTINTERRUPTER.
DONOTusetheQuestDRY150asabenchortable.

PlacetheQuestDRY150onsupportsthatraisethebaseoftheunitabovethetopoftheangesonthedrainpanbeneathit.RaisingtheQuestDRY150willhelptheunitdrainwithgravityow.DonotplacetheQuestDRY150directlyonstructuralbuildingmemberswithoutvibrationabsorbersorunwantednoisemayresult.
TheQuestDRY150maybesuspendedwithsteelhangerstraps(plumberstape)orasuitablealternativefrom
structuralmembers,unitmustbesupportedfromunderneath.Don'thangfromsidesorends.Remembertoplaceadrainpanundertheunitifitissuspendedaboveanishedareaoraboveanareawherewaterleakagecouldcausedamage.
TheQuestDRY150shouldbelocatedneartheexistingairhandlingsystemtominimizetherequiredductworkforconnectingtheQuestDRY150totheexistingairhandlingsystem.ThecontrolsfortheQuestDRY150areremotefromtheunitandmustbelocatedinthespacethatistobeconditioned.Thecontrolsarelowvoltage(24volt)andshouldbeconnectedtotheQuestDRY150withlowvoltagethermostatcable.
Iffreshairventilationisdesired,thoughtshouldbegiventothelocationforthefreshairducting.A6"roundinsulatedductwillhavetobeinstalledontheQuestDRY150andruntotheoutsideofthestructuretobringinfreshair.Usean8"insulatedroundductforlengthsofmorethan50feetorifmorethan100CFMisneeded.Consultlocalcodesfornecessarydistancesfromexhaustportswheninstallingfreshairreturn.
3.2 Electrical Requirements
WARNING: DO NOT ALLOW THE YELLOW LEAD FROM THE QUEST DRY150 TO CONTACT THE REDLEAD OR WHITE LEAD FROM THE Quest DRY150 OR DAMAGE TO THE TRANSFORMER WILL RESULT.
TheQuestDRY150plugsintoacommongroundedoutlet.Itdrawsaround6.9Ampsundernormaloperatingconditions.Ifusedinawetarea(pool,sparoom,orbasementpronetoooding),agroundfaultinterrupterprotectedcircuitisrequired.
Installtheremotecontrolpanelinacentralareaofthestructurewhereitwillsensetherelativehumidityofthestructureaccurately.DonotinstallthecontrolpanelwhereitmaynotaccuratelysensetherelativehumiditysuchasnearHVACsupplyregisters,nearexteriordoors,ornearapoolorspa.TheinstallermustsupplythewiringbetweentheQuestDRY150andthecontrolpanel.Besuretosafelyroutethecontrol
wiringtopreventdamageduringinstallation.BecarefulnottocrossthewireswhenconnectingtheQuestDRY150andtheremotecontrolpanelordamagetothetransformermayresult.
TheremotecontrolsoftheQuestDRY150arepoweredbyalowvoltagecircuit(24Vac)andmustNEVERcontactorbeconnectedtoahighvoltagecircuit.ThecontrolwiresleavingtheQuestDRY150andtheremotecontrolpanelsarenumberedandcolor-codedtopreventconfusion.SomeofthecontrolwiresleavingtheQuestDRY150maynotbeusedwithcertaincontrolpanelsandshouldbeleftsafelydisconnectedwithwirenutstapedontothestrippedends.BesuretoconsulttheelectricalschematicinthismanualorinsidetheaccesspaneloftheQuestDRY150beforemakingthecontrolconnections.
3.3 Condensate Water RemovalCondensatedrainsbygravityviathedrainport.Use3/4"maleNPTPVCpipe.Routedrainpipetodrain.Installatrap
ifpossible.Takecarewheninstallingdrainpipetodrainport.Useanadjustablewrenchtosecurethedrainport.Anoptionalcondensatepumpkitmaybeinstalledifaliftisrequiredtodisposeofthecondensate.Thecondensatepumpkitcanbeordereddirectlyfromthefactory.Seetheoptionalpartslistforinformationonthekit.

TheQuestDRY150isequippedwith10"and6"roundinletcollarsanda10"round(ovaled)exhaustcollar.Followinstructionsincludedwithcollars.
3.4B Ducting for Dehumidication
Fortheidealinstallation,drawairfromthecentralpartofthestructureandreturnittotheisolatedareasofstructure.Theductworkoftheexistingheatingsystemcanbeusedtosupplyairtothestructure.Iftheexistingsupplygoestoisolatedareasofthestructure,dischargethesupplyoftheQuestDRY150intothesupplyoftheexistingheatingsystem.Iftheexistingheatingsystemincorporatesacentralsupply,installationofaseparatesupplyductfromtheQuestDRY150toeachisolatedareaisrecommended.DONOTdrawairdirectlyfromtheisolatedareas.Youmaydrawairfromareasthatareopentothestructure.AllexibleductingconnectedtotheQuestDRY150shouldbeULlisted.
TheinletoftheQuestDRY150isthe10"diameterholeinthelterenclosureoftheunit.A10"roundcollarissuppliedwiththeunittoattachtoroundduct.Theductmaybepermanentlyattachedtothecollar.A6"roundcollarisprovidedwiththeunittoattachtothe6"holeinthelterenclosure.The6"collarshouldbe
cappediffreshmake-upairisnotdesired.Iffreshmake-upairisdesired,seeSection3.4C.A10"round(ovaled)collarissuppliedwiththeunitfortheoutletoftheQuestDRY150.
AlengthofexibleductingonallQuestDRY150ductconnectionsisrecommendedtoreducenoiseandvibrationtransmittedtorigidductworkinthestructure.
DuctingtheQuestDRY150asmentionedinSections3.4A-3.4Grequiresconsiderationofthefollowingpoints:
Duct Sizing: Fortotalductlengthsupto25',useaminimum10"diameterroundorequivalentrectangular.Forlongerlengths,useaminimum12"diameterorequivalent.Grillsordiffusersontheductendsmustnotexcessivelyrestrictairow.
Isolated Areas:Effectivedehumidicationmayrequirethatductingbebranchedtoisolated,stagnantareas.
Use8"orlargerdiameterbranchductingtoeachoftwoorthreeareas,use6"orlargertoeachoffourormoreareas.
Connecting to existing HVAC systems: Anoptional10"checkdamperisavailablefromthefactorytopreventreverseowthroughtheQuestDRY150.IftheQuestDRY150isductedtothesupplyductingairhandler,itisrecommendedthatthecheckdamperbeplacedintheQuestDRY150supplyduct.Contactthefactorywhenconnectingtoastaticpressureofgreaterthanorequalto+.5"WG.
3.4C Ducting for Fresh Air
Freshaircanbebroughtintothestructurebyconnectinganinsulatedductfromoutsidetothe6"QuestDRY150inletandbyturningonthefanswitchoractivatingthehumiditycontrol(onunitswiththehumiditycontrolpanel).Activatetheventilationtimeronunitswiththeventilatingandhumiditycontrolpaneltobringinfreshair.RefertoSection4.5forprogramminginstructionsfortheventilationtimer.Advantagesofthisformofventilationinclude:
1.Outsideairislteredbeforeenteringthebuilding.
2.OutsideairwillbedehumidiedbeforeenteringiftheQuestDRY150isrunningindehumidicationmode.
3.Drawingairfromoutsideandblowinginsideaidsinslightlypressurizingthestructure.Thishelpspreventdirtyandhumidairfromenteringelsewhere.Italsoreducesthepotentialforcarcinogenicradongastoenterandprovidesmake-upairforopencombustionandexhaustdevicesliketheclothesdrier,replace,andwaterheater.
4.Adequateexhaustfansarerecommendedthroughoutthestructure(e.g.,restrooms).

Incoldclimatesorareaswheretheoutdoordewpointislowattimes,ventilationcanbeusedtodehumidifythestructure.Thisisaccomplishedbybringingthedry,lowdewpointairintothestructureduringthesetimes.Thisapproachisoftenmoreeconomicalthanrunningthedehumidiertoremoveexcessmoisturefromthestructure.Incoldclimates,itiscriticaltoadequatelyventilatetoreducetheinsidemoisture
contenttoavoidmoistureaccumulatinginthewallcavities.Forexample;inastructurethatexperiencescondensationontheinteriorsurfaceofthewindowsduringthewinter,increasingtheamountofventilationwilloftencuretheproblem.
Aninsulated6"diameterductisgenerallysufcienttoprovideupto125CFMofoutsideair.LargequantitiesofoutsideairwilleitherpositivelyornegativelyimpacttheperformanceoftheQuestDRY150,dependinguponinsideandoutsideairconditions.Consultthefactorybycalling1-800-533-7533forrecommendationsregardingtheuseofhigherowswithyourspecicapplication.
Theoutsideairductshouldbeconnectedtothe6"roundcollaronthelterenclosureoftheunit.The6"roundcollarincludesamanualdamper.Adjustthemanualdampertoprovidethedesiredamountoffreshairforventilation.Theamountoffreshairshouldbebasedonthesizeandoccupancyoftheresidence.Ifyouareunsureofyourventilationairrequirements,consultthefactorybycalling1-800-533-7533forassistance.
3.4D Installation in a Basement or Crawlspace with an Existing Forced Air HVAC System
Itisrecommendedthatanew,separatereturnductbeinstalledfortheQuestDRY150fromacentralareaofthestructure.Ifthisisnotpossible,andiftheexistingsystemhasmultiplereturns,selectonetodisconnectfromtheexistingforcedairsystemanduseitforthededicatedQuestDRY150return.Alwaysselectareturnfromacentrallocationinthestructureinanareathatisalwaysopentotherestofthestructure.Donotuseareturnfromaroomthatmayhaveitsdoorclosedmuchofthetime.
IfthestructureinwhichtheQuestDRY150istobeinstalledhasanexistingforcedairHVACsystem,utilizetheHVACsystemtomaketheQuestDRY150installationeasier.
Basement Installation:Installaseparate10"returnfortheQuestDRY150inacentralareaofthestructure.DuctthesupplyoftheQuestDRY150toanoptional10"x10"x10"tee/damperthatis20%opentothebasement.Thisallowstheabilitytodischargeavariableamountofdehumidiedairintoabasementthat
maynotbewellservedbytheexistingductsystem.DucttheothersideoftheteetotheairsupplyoftheexistingHVACsystem.Abackdraftdamperisrequiredintheductbetweenthe10"teeandthecentralsupplyducttopreventairfrombeingdischargedintothebasementduringcentralfanoperation.Connectaductfromoutsidetothe6"collaroftheQuestDRY150ifyouwishtoprovidefreshairventilation.
Crawl Space Installation:InstallaseparatereturnfortheQuestDRY150inacentralareaofthestructure.DuctthesupplyoftheQuestDRY150toa10"x10"x10"tee/damperthatis20%opentothecrawlspaceifdesired.Ducttheothersideoftheteetotheairsupplyof
theexistingHVACsystemventilation.Connectaninsulatedductfromoutsidetothe6"collaroftheQuestDRY150ifyouwishtoprovideoptionalfreshair.

3.4E Installation in a Ceiling Cavity with an Existing Forced Air HVAC System
ALWAYSinstallacatchpanwithadrainand/oroatinterruptswitchforcondensateundertheQuestDRY150inanattictoreducelikelihoodofwaterdamage.
LocateaseparatereturnfortheQuestDRY150inacentralareaofthestructure.DuctthesupplyoftheQuestDRY150totheairsupplyoftheexistingHVACsystem.Connectaninsulatedductfromoutsidetothe6"collaroftheQuestDRY150ifyouwishtoprovidefreshairventilation.Adjustdamperinthecollartoprovidethedesiredamountoffreshair.Usingaremotecontrol,programtheunittobringinthedesiredamountoffreshair.
3.4F Installation in a Structure with Two ForcedAir HVAC Systems
TheQuestDRY150canbeinstalledintotwotypicalHVACductingsystems.InstallaseparatereturnfortheQuestDRY150asdirectedabove.Dischargeairfromthedehumidiershouldbe
splitandroutedtoeachsupplyductingsystem.AbalancingdamperandabackdraftdamperisrequiredineachductbetweentheQuestDRY150andtheHVACductingsystem.Thisallowsairowtobeadjustedandpreventsowofairbetweentheductingsystems.Contactthefactoryforassistance,ifnecessary.
3.4G Installation in a Structure with No Existing Forced Air HVAC System
WheninstallingtheQuestDRY150inastructurethatdoesnothaveaforcedairHVACsystem,asinglereturnfortheQuestDRY150shouldbeinstalledincentralopenareaofthestructure.DONOTlocatethereturninarestroomorakitchenorcookingarea.ThesupplyoftheQuestDRY150shouldbelocatedintheremoteareasofthestructure(suchasbedrooms,den,etc.).Byductingthisway,theairinsidethestructurewillcirculatethroughtheQuestDRY150tobelteredanddehumidied.Avoiddischargingalltheairfrom
thedehumidierinonelocationtopreventheatbuildupinthatarea.4"diameterductisrecommendedforbranchestothesmallerareas,6"diameterductisrecommendedforbranchestolargerareas.Refertosection3.4Bforbranchductsizing.Connectaninsulatedductfromoutsidetothe6"collaroftheQuestDRY150ifyouwishtoprovidefreshairventilation.
3.5 Quiet InstallationConsidercompressionvibrationandairownoiseduringinstallation.Useofexductand/orvibrationisolationmaterialsduringmountingandductingwillresultinquieteroperation.
3.6 Noise AbatementAlengthofexibleductingonallQuestDRY150ductconnectionsisrecommendedtoreducenoiseandvibrationtransmittedtorigidductworkinthestructure.

4. Controls
Allcontrolpanelsshouldbemountedinacentralareaofthestructurewhereitcanaccuratelysensethehumidityoftheairinthelivingspaceandbeaccessed.Allcontrolsrequireeldwiringfromtheunitlocationtothepanelmountlocation.
To determine how each control operates the Quest DRY150, it must rst be determined which control isbeing used and whether or not the Quest DRY150 is ducted for fresh air ventilation. Refer to appropriatesection.

4.4C Automatic or Manual Mode
Theslideswitchintheupperleftofthetimerisusedtochoosebetweenautomaticandmanualoperation.WhentheslideswitchissettoAUTOmode,theQuestDRY150willventilatewhenthescheduledprogramscallforventilation.When

5.3H Damper Operation and Setting (Ventilation) Manual/Hold ModeQuestDRY150unitscanbeinstalledtoincorporateoptionalventilation.Thedampersettingcontrolstheventilationfunctionofthesystem.Ithasnocontroloverthedehumidicationfunction,althoughtheventilationfunctioncanandshouldbeusedtodrythespacedependingontheclimateandtheoutsideairconditions.RefertotheappropriateQuestDRY150manualformoreinformation.
Inordertoprovideventilation,thedampermustbeopen(ON)andthefanmustberunning.Thecontrollertakescareofthesetwofunctionsautomatically,sothatwheneverthedamperisopen(ON),thefanisrunning.
TheventilationindicatorOwillbedisplayedwhenevertheunitisventilating.ThefanoperationindicatorOwillalsobelit.
Therearethreedamperoperationmodes,OPEN HOLD,CLOSED HOLDandPROGRAM
(denotedbyON TIME OFF TIME.Refertosection3.8).WiththedamperintheOPEN HOLDmode,thedamperwillbeopenandthefanofthesystemwillbeoperatinginordertointroducefreshairintothespace.Usethismodeforcontinuousfreshairventilation.Thefanisalwaysonwhenthedamperisopen.WheninCLOSED HOLDmode,thedamperwillnotopenandthesystemwillnotventilate.
WheninthePROGRAMmode,thecontrolwilloperatethedamperandfan(ventilate)accordingtotheprogrammedventilationschedule(SeeSection3.8).
To set the damper operation:
1. PresstheVENTbutton.Thecurrentsettingwillbegintoashonthedisplay.Releasethebutton.
2. PresstheVENTbuttonagaintotogglebetween

6. Maintenance
6.1 Standard Air FilterTheQuestDRY150isequippedwithapleatedclothairlter.Thisltershouldbecheckedeverysixmonths.Operatingtheunitwithadirtylterwillreducedehumidiercapacityandefciencyandmaycausethecompressortocycleoffandonunnecessarilyonthedefrostcontrol.
Toaccesstheairlter,removethelteraccesspanelfromtheendoftheQuestDRY150.TheltershouldbereadilyvisibleandcanberemovedbypullingthemstraightoutoftheQuestDRY150.
Thepleatedclothltercangenerallybevacuumedcleanseveraltimesbeforeneedingreplacement.Replacementlterscanbeorderedfromthefactoryorpurchasedlocallyifavailable.DO NOToperatetheunitwithoutthestandardlterorwithalesseffectivelterthanthestandardlter.Theheatexchangecoilsinsidetheunitcouldbecomecloggedandrequiredisassemblytoclean.Filternon-complianceinvalidatestheproductwarranty.
6.2 High Efciency Air FilterAnoptionalhighefciencypleatedmicroglasspaperlterisavailablefortheQuestDRY150.Thislterisratedas90%-95%efcientbytheASHRAEDustSpottestmethod52-76.Thehighefciencypleatedmicroglasspaperltershouldbeusedinconjunctionwiththestandardlter,andplaceddirectlybeneaththestandardlter.
Thislterisabletoremoveallergycausingparticlesfromtheairstream.Thehighefciencylterhasamuchlargersurfaceareathanthestandardlter,thusthestandardltermayneedtobecleanedorreplacedseveraltimesbeforethehighefciencylterrequiresreplacement.Becarefulnottodamagethefabricmediawhenhandlingthehighefciencypleatedpaperlter.Donotattempttocleanthehighefciencypleatedpaperlter.Itshouldbereplacedwhenitbecomesrestrictive.
6.3 Impeller Fan Oiling
Theimpellerfanmotorisfactorylubricatedformanyyearsofnormaloperation,andnofurtheroilingisrequired.
6.4 Optional Fresh Air ReturnCheckandcleanthescreenontheoutdoorfreshairreturnseasonally.Thescreenmaybecomepluggedduringtheseasonswhentherearemanyparticlesintheoutdoorair.
7. Service
7.1 WarrantyAwarrantycerticatehasbeenenclosedwiththisunit;readitbeforeanyrepairisinitiated.Ifawarrantyrepairisrequired,callthefactoryrstat1-800-533-7533forwarrantyclaimauthorizationandtechnicalassistance.

7.2 Technical DescriptionTheQuestDRY150usesarefrigerationsystemsimilartoanairconditioner'storemoveheatandmoisturefromincomingair,andaddheattotheairthatis
discharged.
Hot,high-pressurerefrigerantgasisroutedfromthecompressortothecondensercoil(SeeFigure3).Therefrigerantiscooledandcondensedbygivingupitsheattotheairthatisabouttobedischargedfromtheunit.Therefrigerantliquidthenpassesthroughalter/drierandcapillarytubingwhichcausestherefrigerantpressureandtemperaturetodrop.Itnextenterstheevaporatorcoilwhereitabsorbsheatfromtheincomingairandevaporates.Theevaporatoroperatesinaoodedcondition,whichmeansthatalltheevaporatortubescontainliquidrefrigerantduringnormal
operation.Aoodedevaporatorshouldmaintainnearlyconstantpressureandtemperatureacrosstheentirecoil,frominlettooutlet.
Themixtureofgasandliquidrefrigerantentertheaccumulatorafterleavingtheevaporatorcoil.Theaccumulatorpreventsanyliquidrefrigerantfromreachingthecompressor.Thecompressorevacuatesthecoolrefrigerantgasfromtheaccumulatorandcompressesittoahighpressureandtemperaturetorepeattheprocess.
7.3 Troubleshooting
No dehumidication, neither impeller fan nor compressor run with fan switch and ventilation timer OFF.

7.6A Checking Compressor Motor Circuits
PerformthefollowingtestsiftheimpellerfanrunsbutthecompressordoesnotwiththefanswitchandventilationtimerOFFandthehumiditycontrolON.
1.Unplugtheunit;removethecabinetsideandtheelectricalconnectioncoveronthecompressortop.
2.PlugintheunitandturnthehumiditycontroltoON.Checkfor110voltsfromcompressorterminalRtooverloadterminal3usinganACvoltmeter.Ifvoltageispresent,gotostep3.Ifnovoltage,theremaybealooseconnectioninthecompressorcircuit.Testeachcomponentforcontinuity.Seetheappropriatesectionifadefectissuspected.
3.Unplugtheunit,andthendisconnecttheredandyellowwiresfromcompressorterminalsR&S.Usinganohmmetercheckcontinuitybetweenthepointslistedbelow.
4.CompressorterminalsCandS:Nocontinuityindicatesanopenstartwinding.Thecompressormustbereplaced.Normalstartwindingresistanceis3to7ohms.
5.CompressorterminalsCandR:Nocontinuityindicatesanopenrunwinding.Thecompressormustbereplaced.Normalrunwindingresistanceis.5to2ohms.
6.CompressorterminalCandoverloadterminal1:Nocontinuityindicatesadefectiveoverloadlead.
7.Overloadterminals1and3:Ifthereisnocontinuity,theoverloadmaybetripped.Wait10minutesandtryagain.Ifthereisstillnocontinuity,itisdefectiveandmustbereplaced.
8.CompressorterminalCandcompressorcase:Continuityindicatesagroundedmotor.Thecompressormustbereplaced.
9.Disconnectthewiresfromtheruncapacitor.SettheohmmetertotheRx1scale.Thecapacitorisshortedandmustbereplacedifcontinuityexistsacrossitsterminals.IfthereisnoneedlemovementwiththemetersetontheRx100000scale,thecapacitorisopenandmustbereplaced.
10.Reconnectthewirestothecompressorandcapacitor.Pluginandturnontheunit.Ifthecompressorfailstostart,replacetheruncapacitor.
11.Iftheunitstilldoesnotstart,addingahard-startkit(relay&capacitor)willprovidegreaterstartingtorque.Ifthisdoesn'twork,thecompressorhasaninternalmechanicaldefectandmustbereplaced.
7.6B Replacing a Burned Out Compressor
Therefrigerantandoilmixtureinacompressorischemicallyverystableundernormaloperatingconditions.However,whenanelectricalshortoccursinthecompressormotor,theresultinghightemperaturearccausesaportionoftherefrigerantoilmixturetobreakdownintocarbonaceoussludge,averycorrosiveacid,andwater.Thesecontaminantsmustbecarefullyremovedotherwiseevensmallresidueswillattackreplacementcompressormotorsandcausefailures.
Thefollowingprocedureiseffectiveonlyifthesystemismonitoredafterreplacingthecompressortoinsurethatthecleanupwascomplete.
1.Thisprocedureassumesthatthepreviouslylistedcompressormotorcircuittestsrevealedashortedoropenwinding.
2.Removeandproperlydisposeofthesystemcharge.DO NOTventtherefrigerantorallowittocontactyoureyesorskin.
3.Removetheburnedoutcompressor.Userubberglovesifthereisanypossibilityofcontactingtheoilorsludge.
4.Tofacilitatesubsequentsteps,determinethetypeofburnoutthatoccurred.Ifthedischargelineshowsnoevidenceofsludgeandthesuctionlineisalsocleanorperhapshassomelightcarbondeposits,theburnoutoccurredwhilethecompressorwasnotrotating.Contaminantsarethereforelargelyconnedtothecompressorhousing.Asingleinstallationofliquidandsuctionlinelter/drierswillprobablycleanupthesystem.

Ifsludgeisevidentinthedischargeline,itwilllikelybefoundinthesuctionline.Thisindicatesthecompressorburnedoutwillrunning.Sludgeandacidhavebeenpumpedthroughoutthesystem.Severalchangesoftheliquidandsuctionlter/drierswillprobablybenecessarytocleansethesystem.
5.Correctthesystemfaultthatcausedtheburnout.Consultthefactoryforadvice.
6.Installthereplacementcompressorwithanewcapacitorandanoversizedliquidlinelter.
Inarunningburnout,installanoversizedsuctionlinelter/drierbetweentheaccumulatorandcompressor.Thoroughlyushtheaccumulatorwithrefrigeranttoremovealltrappedsludgeandtopreventtheoilholefrombecomingplugged.Astandingburnoutdoesnotrequireasuctionlinelter/drier.
7.Evacuatethesystemwithagoodvacuumpumpandaccuratevacuumgauge.Leavethepumponthesystemforatleastanhour.
8.Operatethesystemforashortperiodoftime,monitoringthesuctionpressuretodeterminethatthesuctionlterisnotbecomingplugged.Replacethesuctionlter/drierifpressuredropoccurs.Ifasevererunningburnouthasoccurred,severallter/driersmayhavetobereplacedtoremovealloftheacidandmoisture.
NOTE: NEVER use the compressor to evacuate the system or any part of it.
7.6C Replacing a Compressor, Nonburn Out
Removetherefrigerantfromthesystem.Replacethecompressorandliquidlinelter/drier.Chargethesystemto50PSIGandcheckforleaks.Removethechargeandweighintherefrigerantquantitylistedonthenameplate.Operatethesystemtoverifyperformance.
7.7 Remote Controls
TheQuestDRY150iscontrolledbydevicesmountedonapanelthatisremotefromtheunit.Youmayormaynothavethedeviceslistedbelowdependingonthemodeloftheremotecontrolpanelyoupurchased.IftheQuestDRY150failstooperateasdesired,alwayscheckthesettingsofthecontrolstoinsurethattheyarecorrect.Checkthatthecontrolsarereceiving24VacfromtheQuestDRY150.ChecktheconnectionsbetweentheQuestDRY150,thecontrolpanel,andtheeldcontrolwiring.
7.7A Humidity Control
Thehumiditycontrolisanadjustableswitchthatcloseswhentherelativehumidityoftheairinwhichitislocatedrisestothedialsetpoint.ItopenswhentheRHdrops4to6%belowthesetpoint.IftheQuestDRY150doesnotrun,tryturningthehumiditycontrolclockwiseuntilitreachesthestopandtheknobpointerpointsatMaxDry(seebackofcontrolpanelcover).Ifitstilldoesnotrun,removethestopscrewfromthepanelandturntheknobfarther.Ifitthenruns,thehumiditycontrolisoutofcalibrationortheRHisbelow40%.
TheQuestDRY150isequippedwithanautomaticdefrostmechanism.IftheQuestDRY150operatesinconditionsthatdevelopfrostontheevaporator,itwillsensethefrostbuild-upandautomaticallydefrosttheevaporator.TheQuestDRY150maynotappeartobeoperatingcorrectlyduringthedefrostsequence,butoncethedefrostsequenceiscompleted,theQuestDRY150willresumedehumidifying.
7.7B Programmable Ventilation Timer
Theventilationtimercontrolstheimpellerfanandthemotorizedfreshairdamper.Whentheventilationtimerisactivated,theQuestDRY150willcirculatetheindoorair,andbringinfreshairfromoutside.Theventilationtimershouldbesetfortherequiredventilationoftheresidence.Thestructureshouldbeventilatedwithfreshairassuggestedbyapplicablecodesandstandards.
IftheQuestDRY150failstoventilateasexpected,checkthatthetimeonthetimeriscorrect.Forthetimertocarryouttheprogramschedule,theslideswitchintheupperleftcorneronthetimermustbesettoAUTO.TheslideswitchintheupperrightcorneroftheQuest DRY150mustbesettoRUN.Alsochecktheprogramsonthetimertobesurethatthetimeriscallingforventilationatthecorrecttimes.Ifthetimerfailstooperateoroperateserratically,resetthetimer;seesection4.5ofthismanual.

7.8 Defrost ThermostatThedefrostthermostatisattachedtotherefrigerantsuctiontubebetweentheaccumulatorandthecompressor.Itwillautomaticallyshutthecompressoroffifthelowsiderefrigeranttemperaturedropsduetoexcessivefrostformationontheevaporatorcoil.Theimpellerfanwillcontinuetorun,causingairtoow
throughtheevaporatorcoilandmelttheice.Whentheicehasmelted,theevaporatortemperaturewillriseandthethermostatwillrestartthecompressor.
7.9 Electric Ventilation DamperTheelectricventilationdamperiscontrolledbytheventilationtimer.Thedamperwillopenwhentheventilationtimerisactivatedtoallowfreshairintothestructurethroughthe6diameterfreshairinletduct.Theelectricventilationdamperwillremainclosedwhentheventilationtimerisnotactivatedtopreventover-ventilatingthestructurewhentheunitisdehumidifyingorrecirculatingtheindoorair.
Theelectricventilationtimeroperateson24Vacfromthecontrolcircuit. DO NOTconnecthighvoltagetothedampermotorordamagetothemotormayresult.DO NOTforcethebladeofthedamperbyhandordamagetothedampermotormayresult.
Thedamperopensinonedirectiononly.Thedamperrotatesveryslowly,allowsufcienttimeforthedampertocycle.Thedamperwilltakeapproximately1minutetocyclefromclosedtoopenorfromopentoclosed.
Iftheelectricventilationdamperfailstooperate:
1.Checkthatthewiringiscorrectandthatvoltageispresentatthedampermotor.
2.Checkforanyobstructioninsidethedamper.Iftheelectricventilationdamperfailstooperateafterperformingthesechecks,itmustbereplaced.
7.10 Condensate Pump KitAnoptionalcondensatepumpkitisavailablefromthefactoryforusewiththeQuestDRY150.Condensateisautomaticallypumpedtoaremotelocationwhenthewaterlevelinthepump'sreservoirrisestoclosetheoatswitch.
Thepumpalsocontainsasafetyoatswitch.Thewhiteleadsfromthisswitchextendfrombeneaththepumpcover.Thisswitchshouldbeinstalledinserieswiththeeldwirethatconnectstheblue(#5)leadfromtheQuestDRY150totheblue(#5)leadonthecontrolpanel.
Ifthepumpfails,thisswitchopensthecompressorcontrolcircuitandstopswaterproductionbeforethereservoiroverows.TheQuestDRY150willcontinuetoventilateorcirculateairasnormal,butwillnotdehumidifyuntilthisswitchcloses.

newpartshallbewarrantedforonlytheremainderoftheoriginalwarrantyperiodapplicablethereto(butallwarrantyperiodswillbeextendedbytheperiodoftime,ifany,thattheQuestDRY150Dehumidierisoutofservicewhileawaitingcoveredwarrantyservice).
