Were you in our studio before May 2018? Then you’ll recognize our classic country kitchen. Built in 2002, in partnership with Grabill Cabinets, the display featured warm honey wood tones with black and red accents.

This year, we decided the kitchen was ready for a makeover. We teamed up with Grabill again on a project to reframe the classic country kitchen into the modern farmhouse model.

Out went the pie safe, the hickory cabinets and the table and chairs. In went a mirrored and backlit cookware display hutch, high gloss and rustic cabinets, hands-free cabinetry, tech lighting pendants, and an island with shiplap, cherry wood, concrete – and seating.

Who’s Ready for a Renovation?

Here in the studio we’re excited to reveal our newest renovation: the Modern Farmhouse Kitchen. Turns out, we’re in good company.

According to the 2018 Houzz & Home Study: Renovation Trends, 51% of 130,735 homeowners surveyed plan to begin or continue renovations. Modernizing traditional styles with new looks and time-saving features are two top renovation motivators for our clients.

In the US, the median spend on kitchen remodels increased 10% year over year in 2017, while master bathrooms overtook living/family rooms as the third-most-popular room to renovate. Renovating homeowners report that kitchen and master bathroom upgrades increased the value of their homes (83% and 81%, respectively), far more than any other renovation project (48% to 76%).

Jason, says, “The mixture of textures, colors, and design styles is becoming more popular for our clients that want something different than the ‘all white kitchen’ or ‘white perimeter cabinets with a stained island.’ Our clients also want to keep things simple and easy. They don’t want to have to worry about the durability or cleanability of materials. Technology and accessories make the kitchen space more functional. The Modern Farmhouse kitchen display is a great demonstration of where home design trends are heading.”

Inspiration can come from many things. In the case of this kitchen remodel, its inspiration came from the handcrafted beauty of the homeowner’s Portuguese dinnerware collection and their traditional, elegant style.

How do you design a kitchen that’s suited for small intimate gatherings but also can accommodate catered parties for 250 guests? Linda designed a large island perfect to cozy up to that can also be used as a large serving station.

Plenty of storage wraps around the room and hides every small appliance, leaving ample spare countertop space. Large openings into the family room and solarium allow guests to easily come and go without halting traffic.
